    Wonder if they'll let Fittipaldi test in Bahrain, and then decide on the driver afterwards.

    I think they'll be ringing round desperately trying to find a driver with a nice fat sponsorship deal to go with it personally, and Fittipaldi will be the last resort

    Obviously they needed to be sure they weren’t open to any legal ramifications, but once they were satisfied, this must’ve been the easiest decision they’ve ever made.

    Make no mistake about this: Mazepin was dropped because he’s a shit driver, not because of the war. The war and the subsequent sanction of daddy’s company isn’t the reason he was dropped, it was simply the reason they were able to drop him. If he was a good driver, you can bet your last ruble they’d have kept him on.
    If anyone claims this particular case is unfair on “innocent Russian athletes”, they’re talking out the back of their head. He should never have been there in the first place and the war just facilitated his removal.

    You say that, but isn't that why Fittipaldi is their Test Driver?

    He's basically another Mazepin, but comes with a load of Brazilian Sponsorship.

    Certainly isn't F1 material like you say.

    Pietro isn't anything special , I'd imagine they're trying to get Giovinazzi out of Formula E.

    I really like Antonio, and will be great to see him back in F1

    But think the correct decision would be for Alpine to get Oscar Piastri into that seat.

    I agree in that Mick still needs to learn. An old head beside him would be a gift when compared to what’s just been binned. Then again, having my 13 year old daughter as teammate would be an improvement on him.
    On the other hand, some drivers develop and grow more when their team’s focus is almost exclusively on them. Even from a young age. Max Verstappen being a case in point. Another example is a certain Michael Schumacher. So we can’t say Mick doesn’t have the pedigree… 😄

    Partially true but I’m not convinced by your take in its entirety.

    It helps that he was shit, but they haven't dropped him just because of that, they've dropped him because he can no longer pay for the seat through his Dad's business sponsoring them, and no other sponsor would join them in these times if there's any Russian links with the team.

    But as much as the team felt the financial body blow of the war more than most, they must’ve considered the newly available option of offloading little Nicky to be a small silver lining. 😎

    That's a shame for them, they'll run the risk of starting at the back of the grid if they're not careful.

    Called it, although I realised this morning that when I posted this I wrote Eriksen when I meant Magnussen (and misspelled Ericsson). The memory isn't what it used to be since I turned 40!
