Happens all the time. Speeds up personal terms if the clubs can work on agreeing a deal.

You don't let a player speak to another  club unless you've agreed a fee otherwise you'll have a seriously pissed off player on your hands. 

Surely not if you let him know the terms beforehand. Disappointed? Most probably. Pissed off? I suppose that depends on his temperament.

No, I think you do, especially on deadline day, but the deal most be close otherwise you are setting problems for yourself with the player.

Why not, as long as you fill them in before they go that unless the bid is accepted it's not happening.

If burstow goes, I reckon we will bring in Defoe

Of course, just because Chelsea have had a bid turned down doesn't mean there isn't another Premier League club in for him who may have matched our asking price.

I suspect the agreeing to terms between the new club and a player happens all the time, deadline day or not, officially or not. As you say, it does particularly make practical sense toward the end of the day on Deadline Day.

Probably never play for them but will maybe, like Gallagher will, be sold to a PL club for £20 plus million.

Football is a short career, so good luck to Mason. Hope he adds more goals for us, and then goes on to play regularly in the Prem. The opportunity is there, I'm sure he'll work hard at it.

Totally gutted.

I'd put a lot of money on him never playing for Chelsea. While we remain in league 1 we will not keep hold of players like him when the big boys come to the table.
