  • Former captain John Terry will return to Chelsea in a coaching consultancy role with the club's academy.

The ex-England defender will work with players and coaching staff in Chelsea's youth development programme in a part-time capacity from early January.

Slightly odd to go from a successful spell as assistant at Villa to a part time role with the Chelsea youth team

I find it quite fascinating how the anti-racism message is seemingly being pushed hard by almost every club and media outlet going (And quite rightly as well) yet it is conveniently glossed over and forgotten about that this guy racially abused another player on the field of play.

Perhaps he left Villa expecting to get another job quite quickly and it hasn't worked out for whatever reason. Whatever happened I am pretty sure he didn't leave that job expecting his next to be a part time role in Chelsea's youth academy.

We have all made mistakes and should have the opportunity to make amends for them, but this guy has not shown an ounce of regret or contrition for what happened. I know he denies saying anything and perhaps it truly was a misunderstanding, but there seems to be a lot of evidence suggesting otherwise.

Anyway he should be a shining example to Chelsea's young stars of how to behave.

He probably lives close to Chelsea's Cobham training ground.

He left Villa in the summer though, at least 4 months before Dean Smith was sacked and Gerrard came in.

  • At the time he said this:

“My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager. It has always been my ambition to move into football management and, providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge."

Safe to say given his new role at Chelsea, that he hasn't had many offers then.

However it's all good experience for him and it'll obviously be great for Chelsea's kids (especially the defenders) to learn from a club legend.

Well at least if it is with his own family and not someone else's

I bet one of the clubs that gave him an interview was Charlton.

What a car crash that would have been. He probably walked in thinking he'd already got the Job.

He knows he should give up management because he'd get so much abuse on the touchline from fans.

I hope you mean John Terry and not our grass roots, nail biting preacher man Nathan Jones who has led Charlton already to the promised land and it's still not the destination but part of the Journey. Love it.
