Cheers Scoham - Updated a couple of contract dates with your data.

I may be wrong but I think Barker may now have been converted to be predominantly a right back.

We also had pro offers out to Jason Adigun, Matt Dench, Mack Reilly & Tyreece Campbell at the end of last season - not sure if that keeps them in the 'Academy' or 'U23 Dev Squad'.

I had the following in the U18's/Academy that do not have any release status against them:

    No.PosnNameContract ToContract Status
    -GKJames BeadleUnknownCAFC Extended
    -GKHarry WhitlingUnknown

  • Jay Mingi was on trial for Pompey at the weekend with reports we had not renewed his contract.
  • Jay Mingi was on trial for Pompey at the weekend with reports we had not renewed his contract.
We offered him another contract, it would appear he did not accept it.

The club have offered new contracts to Charles Clayden, Ben Dempsey, Nathan Harness, Nathan Harvey, Jay Mingi, Johl Powell and James Vennings.

  • Thanks @Dazzler21 - if they’re pro contracts they’ll be part of the u23s. I don’t think the club named them in the original article, where did you see that?
  • Just trying to dig out the articles

I think it may have been a Cawley tweet as can't find it in any of the articles from the club, if not may have occurred due to an incorrect filter on my spreadsheet

Mingi had a serious falling out with the club around the time of Bowyer’s departure….it was highly unlikely he’d stay.
from what I’ve seen of him he’s ok but not amazing

Was that because we played Pratley at CB instead of giving him a chance there?
  • Our loss, I think he was the next cab on the rank, but got injured when playing well. Absolutely better than Gunter and Barker for the idiots still peddling that option.

Do you genuinely think that was the wrong decision ?

No idea. I've never seen Mingi play. I'm just asking if that was the source of the falling out.

Dobson and Clare should be to 2023 btw
  • Doh you're right
  • Great bit of business being saddled with Ronnie until 2023.

Depends really doesn't it, he may or may not hit the ground running this season.

We have seen many failed signings over the years, I think this was Thomas' one to show him why you hire managers and player recruitment professionals.

If we want/need to move him on, I’m fairly certain a mid table Danish side would jump at the opportunity.

  • Unpopular opinion;

The squad is coming along nicely and I think we’ll be up there.
I’d love to be an optimist about Charlton; as it is, we need a lot more goals in the squad.

What in the top 10 of the 3rd Division?

Agree to an extent.  Hence the “coming along nicely”.

I fancy us for play offs at least if I had to make a prediction.
  • imo we still need another left back, a dynamic midfielder who can create goals, at least 1 more winger & 1, if not 2 more strikers.

Hopefully not all 19 year old loanees.
  • How we kicked off 20/21:

    Amos
    Barker, Oshilaja, Pratley, Purrington
    Gilbey, Lapslie, JFC
    Doughty, Bonne, Washington

    Vs

How we will currently kick off 21/22:

    McGillivray
    Matthews, Innis, Famewo, Purrington
    Gilbey, Dobson, Clare
    Jaiyesimi, Stockley, Washington

Matched up player for player I make it this seasons team wins 6-2 with 3 being the same.

And we’ve not even finished business yet, things are better, relax people.

  • I make us short of at least 6 players. We have 4 more loan slots so expect a Left Back, another CM, a LW and a FW.

I'd expect the other two to be Permies.  The academy players can then be back up.

I dont think Davison can play out wide - he certainly shouldnt IMO. I'd happily have him as backup to Stockley and Ronnie as the option to change things up. Means we need at least 1 more wide player but ideally 2. We also need a Creative CM although this could be a league 1 Foden who can play as a no 10, deeper centrally in a 3 or out wide.

I see Gilbey/Clare competing for one role and Watson/Dobson another with a new creative player (league 1 foden) competing with Morgan whilst also an option out wide.

So I see it as minimum:
    1 Wide player
1 Creative CM who can also play 10 or wide.
    1 LB
    1 RCB
    1GK

That is the absolute bare minimum imo. I would ideally add another striker and wide player to it.

We still have the loan market to utilise so hopefully there is some real quality in the mould of Cullen/Gallagher to add.
  • It is no use keep adding to this thread in the hope we will soon sign another player  :)
  • Bump, we need a signing or two this week.
