Difficult to disagree with that unfortunately. It's a real shame.
The supporters we had in Russia, the ones that travel to further afield destinations, are generally a credit to this country. Good humoured, respectful to their hosts, and no less likeable than the Irish and Scottish supporters that are always welcomed when they travel abroad.
Unfortunately, whenever we play somewhere closer to home - Portugal, France, Spain etc - the good ones are generally overshadowed by the massive amount of divs that can't handle their drink and like to spend the day before the game standing outside an Irish pub chanting abuse at the locals.
Nevertheless, I'm well up for this tournament.3 -
Hope England do OK but I never feel nearly as much passion as I do for CAFC.
The hype around the England team tends to get on my nerves and some of the morons who follow them around leave a bit to be desired - so there is a piece of me that is always a bit pleased when we fail, just to spite the idiots.4 -

It’s massive for me, and I literally plan my Summers around major tournaments.
There’s something quite special about the fact that they only come around every 2-4 years, as well as the fact that near enough all family members, friends, neighbours etc are invested in the same team.
What I also love about major tournaments is the fact that they cannot be bought - in the way the Premier League or domestic football can. There’s something a bit more pure about it (FIFA politics aside).
Footballers can win as many FA Cups, Premier Leagues etc as they want - but nothing will give them the status that comes with winning a tournament for their country (World Cup in particular). It is the absolute holy grail.
And of course, England’s performance is what amplifies the emotion so much more. I can tell you where I was, who I was with, what was happening in that period of my life for all of the major tournaments.
Charlton is the biggest hobby in life that I have, but England/summer tournaments seem to unlock a completely different set of emotions and excitement.I just want to be able to experience that moment once in my life of what it would be like to see England win it. The celebration would be the biggest thing this country has seen in decades. How can the thought of that alone not get you caring about it?13 -
Don't give a shit, but then again haven't for a while.1

Charlton over England easy, but still enjoy tournaments a lot.0

Any excuse to spend the day/night/week/fortnight in the pub0

Seen similar nonsense in Seville a couple of years ago, and a lot of the fans that got beaten up by Russians in Marseille had spent there first two days pitched up outside an Irish pub shouting abuse at the locals.
I agree that it's not the majority, and it gets exaggerated in the media, but we definitely have more knobheads than any of the other major football nations.0 -

Each to thier own, my emotions for England and Charlton are equal and always have been.
When I hear a football fan saying they 'couldn't care less about England' I can't help but wince in the way I do when the twat at a BBQ says proudly 'football, Is that the one with the round ball? like they are some intellectual comic genius.
It doesn't make me right, but I wince all the same. I am 53 and still believe we are going to win it, every time without fail, this year is no different.
Anyway, the day we do win it I am sure the 'Masked singer' or something similar will be on so crack on.11 -

Following England is no difference to any league club with the type of support is attracts. Whenever England play far away and it’s an expensive trip, there is never any trouble and everyone is respectful to the hosts. When England have a ‘Ryanair’ match then trouble will follow. No difference to supporting Charlton when north east matches are less aggro compared to when we play in London.3

So weird.
I genuinely couldn't tell you who white plays for, or the name of the keeper from the last friendly which I watched 15 mins of while working.
5 years ago I'd have been in the pub for every single game, dream teams... bets the lot. Now I'll struggle to watch even just the England games.0 -

Club before country every time.
I could not give a s*** whether they win or lose.3 -
I love a Euro/World Cup. I can't really compare it to going to Charlton - I've only seen England in the flesh once as a boy - but when watching on TV it's not often that all your mates and the rest of the pub support the same team.

Wasting your money and looking like a knob at the same time.Congratulations!11 -
What would you rather, England guaranteed to make at least the final, or Charlton are guaranteed to be unbeaten in the first 2 months of the season?Gotta be Charlton for me.3
