I bet we get some useless sod as manager, that is the Charlton way.
No reputable manager would want to come to a club with our recent history.
History is just that, history. We now have a thoroughly decent owner with a positive and sincere vision of where he wants to take the club. I’m hoping we can be very surprised, in a good way, by the new appointment.

"My expectation is to have something in place for several years to come. It would have to be a plan B if it's just a caretaker until the end of the season."
Does that suggest Plan A has been in place for a while?
    No.

It suggests Plan A is to find a replacement and have them appointed by the end of the week.

If we cannot appoint someone, then the plan will be to utilise a caretaker until a replacement can be found after that date.

I'd go for Curbs but every week he has to bring in a different player from the old days as his assistant manager.
And he'd pick a front line of Garry Nelson and Carl Leaburn.
There would be places for Robbo and Morts also.

As the transfer window has slammed shut, expect a few 'ringers' for tomorrow night's game.

And Peter Garland, they've just asked Hummel to make an XXXXXXL shirt.

Just had it confirmed JJ in charge until further notice. Seems to be no rush for a replacement. Let's see how the players react tomorrow.
Jacko has always said he wanted to be manager at Charlton one day.
    Now he has his chance.

    Good luck, Jacko.

Obviously good luck for his time as caretaker but not the long term. I adore Jacko but the club needs a fresh approach at this moment in time going forward. If JJ goes into management elsewhere and is a success and the time is right then maybe. Who knows, he could be the one in charge when we win the Champions League in 32/33.
Maybe you're right ......  but I'm only picking up on what Jacko said in one of his interviews a while ago.
It's a results game. If he does well then he's earned his chance.

In the real world though, no doubt he's simply holding the fort until a 'proven' manager is appointed?

Firstly, thanks to Lee Bowyer. I personally will always love him, if only for that great day at Wembley. I'm sad to see him go even if I've been a big critic of his recently.

I would be very happy with Eddie Howe, and happy with Chris Wilder.

Many of you will say that these are unrealistic but the reality is that money and ambition talks. If there really is such a big project in the background from TS then there's no reason why such a 'big manager' wouldn't accept. TS may go for some well-reckoned foreign manager and that would be his choice.

Ultimately, if we don't get a manager who initiates a  'wow, that's great' type reaction from the Charlton fan base then we know that all this talk of Premier League and European competition is just hot air from an (although likeable) overexcited naive owner.

Give it to Brownie, or Curbs, they have made more sense of team and tactics in the last couple of months than anyone else.

Eddie Howe or Chris Wilder for me. If they are happy to drop down of course....
They may not even need the wages, but they are football people. They'll want to keep involved.

If they believe Sandgaard is the real deal; and that Charlton has the realistic potential to once again become a Premier League club - they may relish the challenge.

  • Sandgaard knows from his business that you need to appoint the very best you can. I’d be very disappointed and astonished if we appoint a man with no experience.

But they'll get more money higher up, and ambition is all well and good, but why not just get a job with a club already higher up?

Both Wilder and Howe would be candidates for much better paid PL jobs, let alone higher end Championship jobs.

It's not realistic, neither will come to League One.

Now if anybody wants to find a suspect for a genuinely loyal Charlton man, I give you JJ. Of course loyalty doesn't mean success, but I'd like him to get a chance.

Disagree with what Sandgaard has said in his statement though. If as he says, JJ is in the running, a spell as caretaker is probably as good an interview as you can get.

From those quotes I think it will be JJ. I find Sandgaard's quote that he wants a permanent appointment by the end of the week a little worrying.

I hope he takes time to make the right appointment

Managers in a footballing sense are very different to in a business sense. In both scenarios though as you say you want the very best.

Good people manager, knowledge of the industry and previous success on the C.V.

The interesting comment for me is "Plan for several years ahead" to me that says he wants a manager to take the team forward, with funding behind him, that'll get us to the PL as a minimum. If, and it's s big if, that's what he now plans to do, then perhaps Howe or Wilder are not the 'out of our reach' suggestions I thought they were when people started suggesting them.

I'd argue this part says otherwise:

“It’s primarily me that’s leading the effort,” said Sandgaard. “Johnnie has taken over immediately so that we have someone on the sidelines on Tuesday for the next game and then we’re going to figure out if we’re going to recruit internally or find someone from the outside.
“We’re going to look for someone who can take us on the next step of the journey while we rebuild the club.”

Typical Charlton fans. Hounding the manager out. Did we learn nothing from when we constantly demanded Curbishley be sacked!

In truth its a shame he has gone. He put up with so much crap in his reign. Just a shame this season has petered out and he has lost his mojo. Will always be grateful for some of the best moments on the pitch in recent times supporting the club.
Oh dear. Clearly should have put in the 😉 emoji on this one 🤣. Think all Charlton fans know this was never the case despite how the media and Roy Hodgson still like to portray it

Out of the names that jumped out at me; (all just my personal opinion, not to be taken too seriously)

    A list-

Howe and Wilder. 95% sure they wouldn't have any interest but if there's any chance then make it happen.

    B list-

-Cowleys (not sure why so many are negative about them? They are adaptable and not necessarily hoofball merchants. I think a lot of people look at Huddersfield's final league position and don't realise that they were right in the relegation mix when they Cowleys took over.

    -Daniel Stendel
    -Ryan Lowe
-JJ or Euell and assess their performance until the end of the season.
-A foreign manager, chosen by someone with more knowledge of these people than me. Clubs like Barnsley and Brentford have had a lot of success by implementing a long term playing style which managers are recruited to work towards.
    -Powell

C list- wouldn't be my choices but could possibly make an argument for-

    Jackett
    Karanka
    Rowett
Curbs- best manager on this list by far but I fear he's been out of the game too long
    Adkins

    The please God no's-

    Pulis
    Lambert
    Pardew
    Harris

    Etc... Too many to list.

Apologies if somebody has mentioned it before, but I think Mark Bowen could be on the radar.
  • I went to quite a lot of Ebbsfleet games when Steve Brown was manager & they were dreadful

From the comments made by TS it sounds to me like he has spoken to someone but if that doesn’t come off then he’s prepared to give JJ a crack.
Yep, I should imagine he has had it in his mind that Bowyers time was up (one way or another). He has no doubt got candidates in mind.

Being a good pundit does not make you a good manager!!
Does that rule Danny Murphy out too?

It may have been said already but surely we go for Chris Wilder.  I then Sheffield Utd were daft to get rid of him.
Why would he drop 2 leagues?
    He's unemployed for a start.
Plus which Premier League club would employ him?
