I watch this and it still brings a lump to my throat but the reality is the Lee Bowyer of that day is not the Lee Bowyer we’ve seen this season. For whatever reason he burnt out, he became negative, he put out teams that have played some of the worst football we as Charlton fans have witnessed for a long long time so I feel his departure is what’s best for the club in the here and now. You can’t live on yesterday’s and happy memories. I truly wish LB the best in the future wherever that may be for him but for him the journey is over. The journey, however, continues for Charlton Athletic Football Club. I just hope that Thomas Sandgaard makes the right decision in a new appointment, one that makes our journey as supporters sweet and smooth. We’ve had enough of stalling and bumping along. COYA!!!!!!!
    So, so right.

I really loved that Bowyer. He changed though during November of the Championship season and certainly after January, though that was understandable. Under Sandgaard things were meant to be better for him again.

I am disappointed he has walked now, just as it seemed a corner was being turned.

I am relieved also, going now means I won't have to remember the season Bowyer failed to make the play offs in league one with a strong squad.

I have been vocal in my thoughts about certain behaviour, I always throughout wanted him to turn it around.

Bowyer leaves us almost identically to where he joined us, fighting for that final play off spot in League 1.

The cycle begins again. In TS we trust to get us to the promised land.

Well if JJ can train the attack anything like he trains the defense...

from reading bowyer's statement seems fair enough really. I think he's kind of wanted to leave to further his own career but felt a sense of loyalty to stay at the club when things were really bad.

Fair enough in that case, will get a clap from me when he returns.

Many thanks to Lee for what he's done and Wembley will always be a great memory, but this is the right decision both for him and for the club. Will be interesting to see if JJ is left in charge for the rest of the season or whether a quick appointment will be made. With the Play-offs looking a long shot I fancy he will be given the rest of the season to see what he can do and then presumably the new man will take over next season.

Thanks for the memories Lee, Wembley 2019 will live with us forever. Good luck in your future endeavours.

Leaves the club in a better place than when he took over (not necessarily position wise)

If he was ever going to leave, now was the right time I’d say.

Will go down as a great manager for us.

Gutted, Bowyer gave us our club back

I still remember the two play off campaigns and Wembley as the lasting memory.
You only remember Wembley because you sat next to me.
And I bought you a pint.

  • Lee leaves after four undefeated games. When did that last happen to a Charlton manager?

Sorry to see you go, now if you can take Watson with you that would be great.

Just had it confirmed JJ in charge until further notice. Seems to be no rush for a replacement. Let's see how the players react tomorrow.

Really wanted him to turn this around and get us up again but the writing has been on the wall for a while.

The interview with him after the Wigan win was painful to watch
  • I know it’s naivety, but always surprised how quick some of these managerial appointments are made, Birmingham manager only sacked yesterday. Obviously, this is if he goes Birmingham today.
Surely Bows couldn't be appointed today. CRB checks never come back that fast when there's a few 'entries'

I think it's for the best. Sometimes things just don't work out and it's best if the manager goes. I suspect this is one of these cases. It doesn't mean that he can't be successful elsewhere.  I've nothing to back the following up, I just have an inkling that there may have been a conversation with TS along the lines of, 'If you get yourself a job with another club, I won't stand in your way. I won't seek compensation from your new employers and I'll give you a great letter of recommendation stating how helpful you were when I took over. Your new team will benefit, because it will be cheaper for them to get you. You'll benefit because you'll get a fresh start without the ignominy of being sacked or leading Charlton to a disappointingly low finish. Charlton will benefit because we get a fresh start without having to pay you off'. As I say, I've no evidence whatsoever, but it looks like a win-win-win scenario.

Thanks for all the good times Lee, there have genuinely been some of those since you came back. I'd like to say I wish you well, but I really don't like BCFC much so when I look down the Championship table there's probably only six points that I'd like to see you guaranteed.

As for who replaces him, I'd of course like to see Chris Powell back for sentimental reasons and I reckon he'd do a great job. If it's not him though, I think I'd rather it was someone entirely fresh - no links to Charlton. I do wonder if one of the problems with the club is that, with the exception of the absolutely mental Duchatelet years, there's never been enough new blood. It always seems a bit incestuous with everyone having links back to Curbs. I'd like to see a decent manager come in who got his experience from elsewhere. For the record, I'd have no qualms about welcoming someone like Neil Harris.
  • Glad he has gone, but the next appointment is our most pivotal since Dowie.  Stick with Jackson or a powell or Euell is mediocrity. Get Stendel in or Cowleys we will go far.

It seemed inevitable really that he was going to leave soon, but the news still brings a multitude of emotions for me.

At the end of the day, he leaves a legend.

I don’t think there would of been many managers who could of did what he did under the circumstances we faced the last couple of years.

I’m sad, but very excited for our next chapter.

Thank you Lee, I for one will be grateful for all you did for us.

    COYR!!!

JJ over Euell as Caretaker. I'd choose the other way round.
Jacko has been working with the first team, Euell hasn't. With a game tomorrow, it's safer to go with Jacko

We need the new manager to hit the right notes with Thomas Sandgaard.

Gareth Ainsworth and TS to rock and roll Cafc back to the Championship at the end of next season.

    Caretaker till end of season.

I have felt for some time this was an interim season where the strench of dodgy owners had sapped Lee Bowyer energy and enthusiasm.
Lee had hit a brick wall and this hopefully is a mutual decision and thanks for the good memories of Wembley.

Gutted to be honest. I think he’ll go on to be a great manager.
But it’s always about momentum and Lee was the right man at the wrong time. If Thomas had been owner in that Play Off season I’m sure we’d be flirting with the Champ play offs now.
It was the same with Powell. All that momentum counted for nothing because of terrible ownership.
Hopefully the next bloke will get the backing and is as successful.
    Cheers Bow.
    Great is a bit strong.
Bowyer ran out of ideas and wanted out. He did his part in giving us great memories but anyone, manager or player that doesn't wanna be here has to go.

Now he has....we can move on....club will always be bigger than any person.

Sad about this, be careful what you wish for........
I simply wish for a team to be positive, proactive & attacking. No meaningless passing backwards & more intent on scoring goals.

This is what I wanted to put on a Thank You thread... then AFKA said he was doing a thank you thread so mine sits in draft format.

Just a simple thank you thread.

THIS IS NOT A LOCATION FOR TRASHING BOWYER.

Thank you Lee for everything you've done in the past three years and realising now is the best time to part ways.

You'll be remembered for two play off campaigns and a great start to life in the Championship as well as being a whisker away from keeping us up.

In the past 4 months I had become critical and it looked like we were rounding a positive corner in terms of results, but it seems now is the right time for you, the club and the fans.

All the best, except when your future sides play against Charlton of course.

Obviously I added the tweet after. I also want to add that He has left us in an almost identical position in the league to when he joined and so the cycle begins again.
