I don't get the very inconsistent thing. Yes, he's prone to the odd gaff, and his form dipped around the play offs, but not 'very' inconsistent. A bit inconsistent maybe. Easy to forget he came in with decent pedigree - France youth caps, playing for Sporting in the Portuguese top flight and Champions League. Like so many of those early Roland era signings he was let down badly by the club - he was given up on too quickly, and not given the chance to be developed by a good coach who understood English football due to Roland’s insistence on parachuting on cheap under qualified foreign managers. If the club had worked on him instead of just washing their hands and shipping him out for two seasons he might be much better player now - imagine if Bowyer had been working with him from day one. Instead Bows is still ironing out the creases but he does look much better player than two years ago and has largely made the step up to the Championship with clear potential for improvement. Pearce is having a similarly up and down season but you just don’t see the room for growth in Pearce’s game - he looks like he’s peaked. Peaked at a good level and I certainly don’t want to belittle Pearce because he’s contributing, but he’s peaked nonetheless.9

I said the other day Sarr is a goal threat and needs to start. He's had a few bad moments (Millwall away) but on the whole he's had a good season imo and will be difficult to replace without spending money which we may or may not have4

I have a theory about Naby, had it for a while and it seems to ring true. Naby really started playing well for us when Lyle Taylor arrived.Bowyer had previously stated that he needed Naby to get more physical and I think that training with/marking Lyle everyday forced this on him. This made him a far better player.I have really noticed his form drops when Taylor isn’t fit and then picks up again when he comes back into training. As such I see it as no coincidence he Is back playing to his best.7

If Sarr has someone mobile and strong, like Taylor, to pass to, then he looks good. When he looks up and sees no-one showing for the ball, what's he meant to do? He's got clear instructions not to just boot it long, so he tries to get us going. Some passes go-astray and some passes will get cut out but that's the same for anyone continually trying to play forward passes. I don't believe there is anyone in the current squad, apart from Sarr, who could've played a ball of that quality like the other night. It would be lovely to be proved wrong on that though!!6 -

Yes, great news. Bowyer appreciates that both Taylor and Sarr are key players for us. It is interesting the point he made about Taylor in that a couple of things need to happen at the club. This is surely a message to ESI as well as us. If they want to have a go next season, Sarr, Taylor and Williams need their contracts to be extended.2

There weren't too many at The Valley when Naby made his debut in the League Cup against Dagenham and Redbridge but I was one of the few. I thought he looked very useful that day; solid in defence and willing to go forward with the ball and expected to see him to form a decent partnership with Patrick Bauer; but it wasn't to be, well for two or three years anyway. Credit to him for not giving up; he could have taken his high salary and sat on the bench or stayed at home but no; he worked at it under Bowyer and has become a very important member of the first team squad. I hope we keep him as we definitely play better football with him in the side.

When he’s good, he’s as good a defender as I’ve seen at the Valley. When he’s bad he’s the polar opposite.
if I had to choose between him and Pearce, it’s Naby all day long.
Against the better teams he’s good.

Loved the interception and cross, sublime.The back pass through Dills in the play off final, well that turned out ok but god imagine if it hadn’t.He’s still quite young at 26 and i think he will continue to improve. Helps when he plays with players who will fill in when he gets pulled out of shape.Better in a back 3 I think mainlY because he struggles to hold his position in the middle of 4. If he could adapt, he’d be a brilliant championship and maybe decent premiership player. I’d keep him if we can.1

How are people still blaming Naby for "Dills" offering himself for the pass back then some how losing its position? I can think of one (but can't place it) occasion in the last few years where Naby has been caught in possession due to over-playing. Not sure if it led to a goal but think not. Urban myth. Wembley og was 99% Dillon. I can remember dozens of occasions where a shimmy, Cruyff turn or stepover has allowed us to break at pace, often scoring, even if he didn't get the direct assist stat. Naby's dilemma is often getting caught in no man's land due to the shortcomings of those around him. Pearce in the middle and no proper LB until Puss. Porous midfield.1 -
I wouldn't go that far - it happens every so often (such as against Preston at home, where he ended up having to foul and injure their best player after a spot of keepy-uppy, got subbed off at half time and we proceeded to play like shit and lose in the second half) - but I'd rather risk over-playing than not playing at all0

In my playing days, we were always instructed to pass back towards the byeline side of the near post.
If the keeper takes his eye off the ball or you overhit it, worst case scenario it's only a corner.
Anyway, I told you all this at Wembley. You were sitting next to me!
