Union Berlin

Just seen Union Berlin been promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. Only mention it as some of their fans have been coming over to watch Charlton for several years. It's a two-way effort as several lads that used to drink in the Liberal club fly out to watch Union a couple of times a season at least.

Completed the full set of promoted teams.
Last pre-season Norwich played Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Luton, Charlton, Paderborn and Union Berlin in pre season.
All of those sides ended up getting promoted.

Must be doing the rounds that, as a Canary supporting mate has just e-mailed me the same. Wolfsburg and Crawley were the only ones to miss out on success of some kind.
My mate is a VFB fan, so I am gutted for him.0 -

Great story about Union as they start their season.
Their first game is the last they wanted, home to RB Leipzig, a "club" that is the antithesis of all that Union stand for. (But with Lookman of course).
Good luck Union!2 -

Ouch. Lost 0-4 to the Corporation. Lookman wasn't even on the bench. He did actually go there, right?0

One conversation suggested that Timo Werner played where Ademola normally does yet may not be there much longer - Although when you Google search Werner's name the only transfer talk suggests he's going to run down his contract and move to Bayern next summer1 -
Just beat Dortmund 3-17

Must admit I didn't know too much about them before they got promoted and looked into them, they are some club with a fantastic structure of fans.
The first team to win a relegation/promotion play off against a Bundesliga side, sending down Stuttgart.
In 2004 their fans organised a donating blood initiative as part of a "Bleed for Union" campaign to raise funds while they were struggling in the fourth-tier as well as gaining 2000 odd volunteers to help rebuild the club's stadium in 2008.
Aswell as the 15 minute protest against Leipzig on the opening game, they also paid tribute to their supporters who have died and never got to watch a top flight game as a Union fan. The fans held pictures and tributes to family and friends and in turn the club counted these tributes to the official attendance to the match meaning there was an extra 455 fans on top of their maximum capacity of 22,012 to make it 22,467.
Delighted for them and their fans win against Dortmund, they would be some team to go and watch.6 -
Interestingly some of their players were against the RB Leipzig protest.
Union's goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz posted on instagram asking supporters not to stage the protest.
"You can do anything, but a boycott won't help us. Your planned boycott in the first 15 minutes is not good for us players,"

Ithink you will find it hard to get home tickets this year, there membership went from about 10 thousand to 27 now. There away to hertha in march and they have a neutral section which might be your best chance. We went to the derby in the 2nd division and there was 75,000 there, 25,000 union absolutely brilliant they won 2-11

First top flight Berlin derby since the fall of the wall
