Union Berlin

Just seen Union Berlin  been promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history. Only mention it as some of their fans have been coming over to watch Charlton for several years. It's a two-way effort as several lads that used to drink in the Liberal club fly out to watch Union a couple of times a season at least.

  • Congrats to them - hope they stay up!
  • Must be doing the rounds that, as a Canary supporting mate has just e-mailed me the same. Wolfsburg and Crawley were the only ones to miss out on success of some kind.

My mate is a VFB fan, so I am gutted for him.
  • Completed the full set of promoted teams.

Last pre-season Norwich played Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Luton, Charlton, Paderborn and Union Berlin in pre season.

All of those sides ended up getting promoted.
Quite amazing ... can we play Norwich pre-season again? :-)

Not if next season's stat is that every team played in pre-season got relegated  :)
  • Great story about Union as they start their season.

Their first game is the last they wanted, home to RB Leipzig, a "club" that is the antithesis of all that Union stand for. (But with Lookman of course).

    Good luck Union!

  • Ouch. Lost 0-4 to the Corporation. Lookman wasn't even on the bench. He did actually go there, right?

Going by a few twitter comments it sounds as though he couldnt get in their squad for yesterdays game as Leipzig have a very strong squad

One conversation suggested that Timo Werner played where Ademola normally does yet may not be there much longer - Although when you Google search Werner's name the only transfer talk suggests he's going to run down his contract and move to Bayern next summer
  • Just beat Dortmund 3-1
Bloody hell. That's superb. They will be celebrating til dawn
  • Just beat Dortmund 3-1
    Woah!
  • Amazing atmosphere, everyone in Red, love the Bundesliga .
  • Their first ever Bundesliga win.
  • Interestingly some of their players were against the RB Leipzig protest.

Union's goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz posted on instagram asking supporters not to stage the protest.

"You can do anything, but a boycott won't help us. Your planned boycott in the first 15 minutes is not good for us players,"

I agree with the players (and I hate RBL, and admire the Union fans stance against them) . That's the trouble with boycotts, affects the players.

Am looking to go to a Union game , any tips would be welcome.
  • Ithink you will find it hard to get home tickets this year, there membership went from about 10 thousand to 27 now. There away to hertha in march and they have a neutral section which might be your best chance. We went to the derby in the 2nd division and there was 75,000 there, 25,000 union absolutely brilliant they won 2-1
  • First top flight Berlin derby since the fall of the wall

live on BT Sport too, expect it will be worth watching for the atmosphere alone
  • We went to the game saturday without tickets, but to show you just how great there fans are our mates gave us there season tickets and they watched it in the supporters club. Still cannot get over it there biggest home game of the season.
