At the moment we're not hurting teams because we dont have his pace to get in behind them5 -
From what I've read on here many suggested he's not at all similar to Grant though.CAFCsayer said:Stu_of_Kunming said:

I'd say he was a Kevin Davies | Duncan Ferguson type StrikerStu_of_Kunming said:

So not a Grant replacement at all, the reality is pace is an expensive trait and Grant was never going to be easy to replace.ForeverAddickted said:

Mo Eisa was only ever a loan option; we'd be back to square one in the summer looking for a Karlan Grant replacementHenry Irving said:Mo Eise

Not that expensive for Huddersfield.0 -
Due to our bat**** crazy owner. In any normal situation, he would have cost a lot more, how much did Sunderland just pay for someone, imo, not as good as Grant.Henry Irving said:Stu_of_Kunming said:

Shouldn't have lost him in the way we did. It shouldn't derail our season completely but it's hardly helped.

You can't look for an exact replica. My contention is we could find somebody with different qualities. The issue we have had recently, is getting goals in the team. Karlan did well in that respect this season, but he is not the best of finishers. My contention is finding a better finisher would not have been too hard, although we didn't manage it!Stu_of_Kunming said:

£1.5m for a striker who is now starting in the Premiership. Our negotiations really are wank aren't they5

I can't be doing with all this marketing bollocks - it's Div One, Two, Three, and Four.ForeverAddickted said:

Nice to see Karlan's name appearing there.
One goal and one assist for him in his three (?) appearances in the First Division.
Below that it's the Conference, then Southern League, Northern League, and Isthmian League.
Simples.

My point was it was never going to happen, Roland wouldn’t have spent the amount of money required. Of course it wasn’t impossible.MuttleyCAFC said:I think we could have easily replaced him, we just didn't.
Even with the budget it wouldn’t have been easy. You’ve got to make sure you don’t bring in another Ajose.0 -
Our team was built around a certain system, Grants pace was a key to opening up defences, so I don't believe Grant could have been replaced with any goal scorer.MuttleyCAFC said:

I can see it now. He'll do really for Huddersfield, score a bundle in the championship next season, get called up for England U21s and end up getting sold for about 15m+0

Which highlights the fact that we sold him much too cheaply.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Unless he was demanding the move, we shouldn't have been selling him at all, we're not going up without him.JamesSeed said:

Glad he's doing well.
Simply dumb not to have an appropriate replacement.2 -
It’s certainly going to be harder :-(Stu_of_Kunming said:

Quick question: If we got to play off final would you be able come over for the match?0 -
We could have bloody tried though!Stu_of_Kunming said:

Genuinely think with Grant we would have got promotion this season5
-
When you build in the inflated price for strikers factor n time the giveaway of Grant may well prove to be as much of a disaster as Gomez was.
£1.5m and £3.5m.
Pathetic.

Teams are built around the players you have and if you lose some attributes you may bring in a player with different attributes rather than look for one with exactly the same ones. I don't think the team was built around Grant, although nobody can deny he has done well this season and formed a good partnership with Taylor. If people are saying Grant is a Premiership striker, well we will just have to disagree.Stu_of_Kunming said:

The way we were playing before he was sold and Taylor was suspended, without a doubt,no team in the playoffs wouldve fancied playing us. We wouldve pushed to top 2 all the way as well.0 -
I can't see that Grant would've been too happy if his move had been denied. It was possibly already starting to show a bit in his last couple of performances (Accrington....good penalty but a dreadful miss from two yards, Peterborough...awful penalty). He may have knuckled down and got on with it but after the Scott Parker episode, I'm sceptical about the desire of young players once they've been told "their dreams" are on hold.Stu_of_Kunming said:
