It’s like 1947 all over again.
Nice reward for the 18% diehards and lunatics.

Ask Toby Stevenson why he didn't score tonight?

Nicky Ajose delivers on what could have been his last last chance.7
-
No highlights show (of course)?
If I’d gone he would have played less first teamers and we would have lost3 -
Forgot we were playing otherwise I may have gone. Looked in at 8.30, saw team and 1 up. Just checked again and genuinely shocked... I mean Toby Stevenson failed to score!
Well done chaps. Maybe this is our cup year!0 -
Never expected 5-0 against Mansfield, a team high in confidence after a long unbeaten run. Great result and looking forward to a win against Donny to see who we get in the Third round.
Well played the Reds and thanks to Ross and others for the match thread.1 -
He did get an assist, according to the BBC site ..... for Marshall's goal.Athletico Charlton said:Just checked again and genuinely shocked... I mean Toby Stevenson failed to score!

My 1st 4+ goals this season.
1,900 shows why we shouldnt take this tournament seriously, not many are interested.1 -
Lyle Taylor is different gear12

Even with a ticket thought twice about going tonight...bloody glad I did now! Played much better second half and got in some decent tackles. Bizarre 3rd goal after the ref reversed his free kick decision and (correctly) gave it to us while nearly the whole of Mansfield were in our box! Great to see both Marshall and Ajose score - whole team were boosted by the result and that’s why it’s worth trying to win these games.13

People would still attend for the 3rd, 4th onwards. Of course a
1st round replay against Mansfield isn't a crowd booster.4 -
Shocking attendance ........a lot of apathy for CAFC nowadays0
-
Great result but Mansfield were the better side in the first half. I thought we were fortunate to be 2 up.0
-
Any chance we might be able to catch the goals from anywhere soon? I’d love to see them.
Taylor is something else. To get 12 in 18 is phenomenal, and he could’ve had so much more with the missed penalties and chances he ought to have scored as well. We have a real striker on our hands.
Well done to all who went tonight. Hopefully we can carry this forward going into Saturday now.4 -
100 up. Always chuckle at how many people view the Player Marks thread before any player marks are posted0
-
Well happy with that. My hands are freezing, my legs are freezing and I can just about feel my feet. Warmed by the result
Felt we were a bit too casual after our first goal but really happy with how clinical we were in front of goal
Lyle Taylor is for me the best player to put the shirt on since the success under Powell team. Love everything about him6 -
Wow. On another thread I predicted we would score five, one of which in the last minute(calling it a last minute winner was just poetic license). I just mucked up a tad predicting 4 goals for Mansfield. But a damned close call.1
-
Also don’t underestimate what that goal and 2 assists may do for Ajose on his confidence on Saturday. He’s likely to start with Taylor out, and that may just give him a proper boost17

2 assists and a goal.Croydon said:Nicky Ajose delivers on what could have been his last last chance.
Nicky is back in the last chance saloon from the last, last, last chance saloon.
JJ was right to say Ajose needs to grab his chance when it comes.
The Rovers game could be the springboard to success or the trapdoor to failure for NA.
Lyle Taylor has big boots to fill.

At the game. It’s my birthday so well chuffed. Happy for Ajose he really needed that goal and those assists. As for Taylor... different class. The confidence and audacity to try that chip is insane, nevermind to pull it off4

Started well, dropped the pace after the first but picked it up in the second.
A lot more intensity, Clarke and Fosu more influential and we got the second.
Third was terrible referring and after that Mansfield's heads had gone.
A bit of showboating (see Lyle's third) after that.
Mansfield gave us plenty of problems and created good chances that kept Phillips busy.
Only an assist for Toby. Sell him now.
Bauer looked OK, Fosu more like he was last year, Marshall dangerous, Taylor agressive in defence and attack and Ajose scored after making lots of good runs.
Not a great game but you don't see us win 5-0 often and especially in the cup so glad I went.13 -
Exactly as I predicted. I feel vindicated.0

The result was in doubt until the bizarre decision by the ref that led to our 3rd goal. We were sluggish and disjointed first half. We barely got out of our own half and passed the ball backwards at every opportunity. Mansfield were desperately unlucky to go in one down.
Second half we were more direct, but even when we went 2 up Mansfield kept playing decent football and pressed us. I think they could still have come back.
The third goal was the product of poor reffing and then we overran them.
6 youth team products on the pitch by the end and none of them disgraced themselves, although Dijksteel was over casual. Taylor's finishing was excellent and Bauer had a good game, including a last ditch tackle which stopped a certain goal.
Football can be a cruel game tho and I felt sorry for Mansfield by the end.5 -
Not a 5-0 result but after the farcical 3rd goal the Mansfield side lost the plot and made the scoreline a lop sided one.
Good fortune to be up at half time. Sloppy in the first half with Phillips and Bauer coming to our rescue. How they didnt score from that excellent ball from the right wing in the first half is a mystery.
Second half much better. The front 2 were excellent and Bauer looked class tonight.
Awful crowd on a cold and wet evening but that's the magic of the FA Cup for you.3 -
I predicted 3-0 in front of a crowd of 30. I don't think I was that far off.1
