Much as 'informed', 'liberal' westerners might be sceptical, there is no titillation intended with belly dancing, there is most definitely not to be any shaking of tits in your face, for the purposes of arousal. The clue is in the name.
The areas in which this dance form originated have a different notion of beauty in the female form.
Of course it's fine for this to be performed.
Would you question the plate smashing in a Cypriot restaurant?
Your question of "acceptability" speaks loudly of cultural arrogance and views belittling customs or morés simply because they are unfamiliar. It's different is all, just as the way the lamb is cooked and served, is different from how our northerrn european ancestors have cooked and served lamb.

The real issue is - how much does it really bother you that belly dancing is accepted? I have to be honest and say it doesn't bother me - mainly because it is tradition and pretty harmless. I might take a harsher view if it wasn't and somebody had just come up with the idea - but even if they had, I'm sure they would legally be allowed to do it. If you want to compare everything, it might well do your head in, but my suggestion is just to try to apply reasonable values and not pick holes in things to make you angry.

That is true - they make a decision based on a number of factors. Don't see why people have to slag of a changing society when whether the decision is right or wrong, it is taken to try to respect women and isn't forced on the F1 owners.DamoNorthStand said:
