How olds your telly mate?Justin20474 said:Anyone used teletext holidays before? I tried then yesterday for a later summer trip for a week to turkey but found that the actual price (after speaking to them) was £300 more expensive than the advertised price. Is this the way they work? Should I have expected this?
No wonder the price has gone up!

Well known for this.0

Ah ok. I was thinking if you weren't set on it, then I could suggest a place called Kalkan. It's not as lively as Bodrum though. I have quite a few friends there with apartments to rent. All you need to do then is go on Skyscanner and sort out the flightsJustin20474 said:

Did you actually book it?
Teletext is the trading name of Truly Travel who also get bad reviews.
Did they then try and flog a different hotel that has ‘just had a cancellation’
Either book direct with the hotel and get flight separately (use credit card) or use an established agent such as Thomas Cook who have bodies on the ground on resort if there are any issues.1 -
Do the former and if anything goes wrong you are on your own - you will have separate contracts with different suppliers and the couple of quid you save (if there is any saving) isn't worth it (for Turkey especially IMO).MrOneLung said:Did you actually book it?

With Thomas Cook / Jet2 Hols / TUI etc you have a package with people on the ground to sort issues. With Teletext Holidays, as of this week and the launch of revised package travel regulations, they will also be selling you a package, so if anything goes wrong they have to sort it.
The only difference is that they are an agent (rather than an operator like TUI / TC / Jet2 etc.) so they wont have people on the ground. Thomas Cook are the lead Turkey specialist and are a good outfit (they get a bad press because holidays are emotive and its good click bait for the Daily Mail).0 -

As PBS says Cave Bar easy to find but definitely take the mozzie spray. Resort pretty much built around two main roads - that which runs from the direction of Zante town to the beach is quieter than the one that runs towards Laganas. Great beach but would recommend heading early as does get busy.AddickUpNorth said:Cheers @paulbaconsarnie will do. I like the look of the Olive Tree but also a place called the Cave Bar sounds interesting. Supposed to have some quality views but a bit hard to find.

Grab a bottle of wine from each region the coach will be going through before you go and drink it whilst travelling through. The trip will fly by.CharltonMadrid said:Going through Bordeaux region after crossing from the Basque country so hoping it will be an interesting ride. Got a couple of books and there's a TV screen on each seat and hoping it's not too gruelling. Might be a complete mess by the time I get to London though.

Twenty one hours in so far, and an hour after change in Paris with about six to go. Unfortunately the TV was broken on the Madrid - Paris bus and the promised free WiFi not available. No air conditioning on Paris - London bus. Some nice scenery on the way but a lot of it has felt like being in solitary confinement. Not really recommended unless you are a real glutton for punishment. On the positive side I have got almost hysterically excited about arriving in England for the quarter finals - in fact that has just about kept me going!CharltonMadrid said:Taking bus back from Madrid to London today via France. Twenty eight hours and completely illogical but fancied a road trip and hopefully should be decent sights on the way. Train would be proper Charlton but this is close enough!

Will you be flying back to Madrid or using the Coach again?0

Definitely flying! Already had return booked as need to be back by a specific date. This wasn't exactly a bucket list trip but have always been curious about it - definitely happy to just be doing it once though!1

Thats good then, worst thing about those long trips (if your doing them both ways) is the dread of having to do the return journeyCharltonMadrid said:Definitely flying! Just back from a few days in Barcelona. Never been before and now regretting having never done so before!
What a beautiful city it is with so much to see and do. Managed to get a couple of days on the beach too. Even at this time of year and the hot weather it wasn't really crowded despite what you may read on Tripadvisor etc.
I'm not the fittest of people but it was easy to walk to most places and we only used the metro for trips to Nou Camp, Sagrada Familia and a footie match near AlfonsX station. We were based near the Parlament area.
I don't see the city as more or less safe in terms of pickpockets than any other major city. There is a strong police presence and as long as you're sensible with belongings then you'll be ok. I didn't witness any crime and the closest I saw was a young whippersnapper who wasn't wearing a shirt off the beach and got a ticking off from local plod!
The city is kept very clean although appears to be Banksy paradise as anything that is stationary for more a than 5 minutes is liable to get tagged!
Another attraction was that food and drink, both in supermarkets and restarants/cafes, is relatively cheap. I got a 10 pack of cans of Estrella for just over 5 euros.
A great city that in my view has something for everyone. I look forward to going back soon.

as above on my list to visit.
considering booking it for the Mrs 30th surprise for next June.1 -
Did you use the hop on, hop off bus Phil, when I was there, there was 3 routes, one going by the Camp Nou (see my avatar). With earphones and an informative commentary, I found this excellent. It is a shame that the residents of Barcelona said that they are fed up with too many tourists.0

One of my favourite cities and one that definitely benefited from hosting an Olympics.1

Looking to book Barcelona in October.
Nou camp on the list. Is there much else for young( 7&12) kids?0 -
going to France next Friday for 2 weeks. Anyone been to Carcassone ?, we are driving (avoiding Paris) via Rouen / Le Mans / Toulouse
a convoy of 4 vehicles (inc caravans / motorhomes) 8 adults and 8 kids in total
stopping over 2 nights on the way with 10 nights down there and then 2 stopovers on the way back
Looking forward to it, but not particularly relishing the drive with 4 kids in the car (ipads / kindles fully loaded up and enough snacks and sweets to start a mini Tesco's)0 -
No didn’t do that Ross as sadly didn’t see it or probably would have done.ross1 said:Did you use the hop on, hop off bus Phil, when I was there, there was 3 routes, one going by the Camp Nou (see my avatar). A shame some are moaning about tourists as they must be the lifeblood for some businesses.
It is a lovely city.0 - Sponsored links:

However, there is a good zoo and I believe there is a water park nearby.1 -
Funny you mention that as we may be doing a canal trip next year starting at Carcassonne which looks lovely.Elthamaddick said:going to France next Friday for 2 weeks. Anyone been to Carcassone ?, we are driving (avoiding Paris) via Rouen / Le Mans / Toulouse

Carcassonne is beautiful. I stayed a couple of nights in the city two years ago and reckon you can fill your time easily for two or three days. Just walking the walls and mooching are lovely, and the history of the city in the time of the Cathars is brutal and fascinating if that's your thing.
There are some fantastic places to visit not too far away, especially chateaux such as Queribus which is a breathtakingly spectacular ruin with stunning views of the Pyrenees once you've made the climb
>http://catharcastles.info/queribus.php
Albi to the north is also a beautiful city and well worth visiting for a day.3 -
any Barcelona recommendations for a hotel looking to go next may for mrs 30th0
-
We stayed here for a couple of nights after Benicassim quite a few years ago. roof top pool. right by the cathedral and in the middle of the gothic quarter https://barcelonacatedral.com/en/
most recently we did air bnb in Barcelonetta by the beach.
restaurant recomendations - Tragaluz for special occasion, pre drinks at Boca Grande opposte, and for paella on the beach go to Pez Vela near to the W hotel on the beach.1 -
Pez Vela was very good -ate there in May.
Also a place called Llamber in El Born. Tapas restaurant and probably the best tapas meal I've ever had. Need to book1 -
Fantastic place, helped by the weather, bit cooler today thankfully but been 35c every day so far. Haven’t even really spent much time in Carcassonne, we are about 15 mins south in MontclairPhil said:

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying it. A tad warmer than it is here!
Hope you had a good journey there. Be interested to know how that went.0
