Read a short statement from the club regarding the vacant managerial role at The Valley
Charlton Athletic can confirm that following discussions with Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill over the vacant managerial role at The Valley, the club has been unable to reach an agreement.
The club will now continue its search for a candidate to take the club forward. Any further announcements will be made in due course.

Absolutely priceless!!

Hilarious. So confident were they, that they happily allowed Riga to depart, no doubt paying him handsomely to cancel his 18 month contract.
What now you jokers? Oh I know, Nobby Vinegar.2 -

This is going to be another nail in the coffin, really hope they are gone before the new season starts.9

If Chris Wilder has indeed rejected us, does this mean Katrien will be interviewing another 20 applicants again?1 -
Rich Cawley has just tweeted at me that he doesn't think CW will be coming.2

I'd be happy with Adkins as our managerScoham said:

To be fair to KM etc, we've no idea what's going on behind the scenes, it could be Wilder stalling or making new demands. Considering it's 3 months to the start of the season, an extra day is hardly going to make a big difference to our summer recruitment6 -
Couldn't be any less surprised. We will never get anybody decent with this shower in charge.4

Colin you promised us what went wrong

I know he has not set the world alight at Sheff United. But i like Adkins.
If it was a case of Wilder to Sheff United and Adkins to Charlton i wouldnt be so sad.
Also he is at The Valley .. alot.4 -
Hahahahaha - can't even lure the manager of Northampton Town. What an embarrassment you are Roly and Katrien.17

This is part of a larger thread where I originally asked about Lookie but he confused it for asking about CW. Sorry I'm not good at C+P into here.0 -
we are a joke. Who in their right mind doesn't ascertain in advance of talks and putting out a statement that you can meet the candidates aspirations and conditions etc. Laughing stock.1
-
They never wanted him in the first place, just made it seem like they did. Just like Max Gradel and other signings.
In a few weeks they'll say no one else was available when they sign the Újpest manager.30 -
Welcome Nebjosa.6

Adkins is a perfectionist, he wouldn't work under the restraints that RD would put him over. It's quite bleedingly obvious that this tiger, RD, is not going to change his stripes, as if he was - CW would be in the job today.
Roland OUT.2 -
Adkins would be a decent manager - with the right level of control that is1

Is there ANYTHING our incompetent, useless, lying, squirrel-faced CEO can do without some kind of monumental cock-up?! Literally one PR disaster after another.
It beggars belief.2 -
You've done it again mate!AFKABartram said:My hunch is this was due to be confirmed late yesterday / early today but hit a hitch.
I don't expect it to be a major one, terms would have been known before talks and Wilder clearly wants the job (he would have spoke to others well in advance and that hasn't put him off). He holds the cards though in this so suspect a bit of last min negotiation is going on for him / his team.
My gut feeling says this will still go through later today / tomorrow. If it doesn't then the club look ridiculous and they know that.
The positive thoughts you keep having should be well and truly parked.

I hope not. He always comes across as a smug tosspot imo.CharltonByBlood said:I know he has not set the world alight at Sheff United. But i like Adkins.
