    yes

  • As grateful as I am to RD for stopping us going in administration and sorting the pitch out.

I think his time is up, if he is still telling the manager who to pick even if they are not good enough, we are screwed

Would people be pacfied a bit if RD sacked KM and appointed RM CEO again? (not that RM would be able to take that roll up or have even discussed it, but could be a way of getting his £7m back sooner... You know through working for it...)

So if we can assume Roland wants to more or less pick the team himself. He has a coach for what reason?

Well I dunno, for being Churchillian, or doing drills in training, or monitoring fitness or whatever, or doing the interviews, following a weekly plan and script to the letter? I don't know, because if the coach can't pick the team the job is pretty menial and meaningless. What kind of standing do you have with players you interact with daily, if they look at you and know it isn't down to you whether they play or not?

Do we assume it is only about money, and player value, and network churn that drives Roland on? Do we assume that Roland has some kind of complex algorithm that has calculated that it will all eventually pay off in pounds shillings pence and Euros regardless? Do we assume hoovering up the network is essentially a money grab?

If Roland picks the team based on reports, statistics, what he has seen on the field, what he reckons he knows better (about Championship football), and it isn't money driven, then what drives his desire to pick the team?

Is it about a new train set, bright and shiny, to devote leisure time to in the network loft? Is it about a man, who sets up successful businesses, a political party, maths tests for new players, geometric diagrams as to the ideal throw in angle, and more, a man simply indulging an idea that he can sort out the football, or at least have a nicely diverting time trying to, with his network of new toys?

Is the message, as alluded to previously on Charlton life, that Roland is the daddy, Katrien the devoted oldest child, and they are doing what's best for us, giving us the treatment we need, and we're not old enough to understand, but we should be thanking them anyway for bothering? And then we should go to sleep because it's way past our bedtime.
  • i have no issue with RD (or any owner) asking why certain players are not playing or why they are playing out of position---we ask so why shouldnt the OWNER ask ? its different if he/she is demanding they PLAY.

We all understand the owner has a right to ask questions, but that cannot sensibly extend to emails instructing the manager/ head coach to play players in particular games, as it did with Powell.

Over and above that is the issue of how these questions are asked.

Fully understand why people want to believe it is just the legitmate concern of the owner asking questions, because in a normal situation that is what it would be, but it wasn't under Powell and I don't believe it was under Peeters.

For whatever reason, RD wants particular players to play and puts pressure on for that to happen. He is in no way qualified to make those decisions and it cannot work.

Big interview with Peeters in the SLP today putting a lot of the blame on KM.

Do I need to send Bob a bunch of flowers?

A crate of Stella would go down very well

Thing is Clem that Bob is telling us the same story as Powell and as others who have left their jobs under RD elsewhere in the network. We can tell from the evidence of our own eyes that we are given players who are patently not up to the job, and I've been asking myself the same questions re the Ujpest keeper - if he's not good enough for their first team, how on earth is he good enough for ours?

Fundamentally the message we should all be hearing is - regardless of how good the manager is - the network still underestimates Charlton Athletic and the Championship, and doesn't understand that you can't use lesser parts from other machines - however compatible on paper - and expect the result to be anything but coughs and splutters. Whether this is RD, KM or a combination, who knows - but we can see it all on the pitch for ourselves.

I do think Peeters is behind Riga and Powell in his abilities to polish a turd, but it's still a turd mate.
Perhaps Roland's argument is you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.

  • You are joking aren't you? The game at which the move to Selhurst was announced, ironically against Palace, attracted a crowd of 6,300. Obviously that included a fair few Nigels. I was one of those who refused to go at first, but the sparkling form of the team drew me reluctantly back. My first game at Selhurst, against Sheffield United, drew a crowd of 7,100 if I recall. So I think more or less 90% of those who went at the Valley in those days also went to Selhurst. But despite promotion we could not build on the teams success. It was the hard core who went, and the hard core who argued that only a return home would give the club a future. voice of the Valley could not be given out or sold to people who were "boycotting" . You are rewriting history.
Agreed and the previous two home games drew bumper crowds of 4,178 and 4,045 respectively. And this was after the club had invested in seven new players in the summer. The fact was, very few people seemed to give much of a shit about Charlton in the years leading up to the move to Selhurst. If they had, then the club might not have moved there.

Ps: granted that it could also be argued that the club didn't give much of a shit about the supporters either....

No...it makes you good. I've met one or two who started following Charlton in those days including a couple of Palace fans who used to go to our games as well as there's.

I read an interesting article that said the RD had already discussed the Charlton manager role with the present Belguim international manager when and if we get to the perm
It looks like he as certain managers for certain roles
There is more chance of me looking like Terry from Brookside with an eighties perm, than Charlton getting to Premiership with M.Roly as owner.

    Calm down, Calm down : - )
  • Basically. I've come to the conclusion that RD really doesn't care about Charlton at all.
His only care is that he can make money out of Charlton or break even at worst.

He clearly does not wish to invest large sums in players & therefore promotion is not an option.

His plan is to bring in network players, ensure that they play & in doing so increase their value (as having played in the English Championship adds value to a player who has only played in say Serbia).

It appears to matter not, what level the players are at. If he can play them, he can sell them for more than he paid.

We are basically just a charity shop window.

Therefore, he presumably does not particularly want the old guard playing, the likes of Morrison & Wilson, as they would be less likely to be sold on to Romania, Serbia etc.

The reason he wanted Luzon, is because Luzon will go along with this.

Presumably, Peeters, thought he could change the thinking of RD.

I can't see the plan can working for RD & I can't see it ever working for Charlton.

If the plan was amended, then maybe it could work.

Get in decent players, who are actually worth £1M and sell them for more.

But he needs to be getting in better players and he's shown that he is not willing to do so thus far.

I'll always support Charlton & always be there, but it's all looking like we're only heading in one direction and that is not up.

Bang on. RD has bought us so that he can make money from player sales. Those player sales don't necessarily have to go back into the side as promotion, whilst highly lucrative, won't turn Roland into a rich man - he already is a rich man.

We're basically just a club which is now functioning to help one person's bank account - there is very little in it for the rest of us who support a lower league side for the reasons that we do.

    Fox.

Got him back in training the next day mind you by whipping crosses into the back post

Yes agree. Player value is all.

Yes, no conflict of interest there.

    1. he was never CEO at Charlton

    2. He's already worked for that £7m by earning it from his other companies. He then put it into Charlton.
    1. That'll learn me for not checking my facts on RM!

    2. He needs to re-earn it now... it's a bit like a computer game with no save point. You lose, you have to start over.

This is firmly tongue in cheek!

  • Ok I've deleted it as it seems to have upset some people but I stand by my comments though.
Fucking hell mate you're gonna look well silly if this all turns out to work
  • Interesting to note

"The Saturday after the game (Brighton) I went to the press and I had a missed call from the chairman, the chairman said 'the ball is not rolling for at this moment, we need to stay calm and focus on the next week - if Chris Solly hits the target it's 1-0, it's one set piece that cost us etc" BP

Maybe he is actually watching games streamed live

Thank you CE, you have put down in a much better way my thoughts and fears.
  • There were more flags than a posting on Charlton Life by PL54

    Oi

I have only picked up on the last page of the 150 unread posts on here. Are we now working on the belief (or assumption) that RD selected the team for BP ?

What is Current thinking on BP slagging players off and fighting?

Kart racing? Quite a risk for people who make a living with their legs.

Well if he is, get some bonus points with the fans and give us the link. I'm in the market for one tomorrow. Come on Rolando, do what's right son
  • Reading between the lines and if I am wrong then please highlight:

BP was sacked for crimes against the network by not using RD players well enough and the sacking was hidden under the excuse of the bad form we were in.

So basically the same as SCP.

    Spot on.
