Dad's Army.

This was the news that brightened me up this morning, they are going to make a film of Dad's Army. As one who lived through the second World War, I am ordering my copy early. Those critics had better look out, they don't like it up em !

Hmmm. There's already a Dad's Army film with all the right cast in it.

I'm bound to end up watching this one, but I've not got good vibes about it. Some things are best left alone.
  • Why, what do they hope to achieve by making a film with different cast, money?
  • change - who needs it
  • How about a remake of one of the "On the Buses" films?
  • I shall do what I always do with remakes of shows and films I have affection for. Watch it with an open mind and appreciate it for what it is with no prejudice. I see no reason not to look forward to it, the two main cast members announced are both talented artists I respect and who, I would imagine, are also familiar with the high esteem in which the original is held and would not be involved if the film did not maintain the integrity of the formula we all know and love.
  • This could end up a disaster...

    ....anyone remember Carry On Columbus?

    That one is best forgotten!

  • TBF my initial thoughts were negative until I followed the links I have seen and the casting looks spot on.
  • Will they make it politically correct and have a black character and a gay one?

  • Please, no no no no no and err no!

Spend your time coming up with an original idea and leave the classics alone FFS or is there no creative talent left in this country?

They would have to change the title to start off with to Absent Dad's Army
  • Is it only Ian Lavender that's still going?
  • Again, why?.......just why????????

    Oh yes....the filthy lucre....
  • I'm sure Jones be able to say Fuzzy Wuzzies in the new version.
  • They have done very well to get the new cast looking close to the old cast
  • Some excellent casting in that line up, But, I dunno they had better make a more than decent attempt at this, otherwise they could get slaughtered from all sides.

I agree, very strong cast .. I just hope that they all take it 'seriously' and don't 'ham it up' too much .. if you know what I mean

  • I wonder if this will be a precursor to films of 'it ain't half hot mum' and 'neighbours' ?
  • Was just about to say this was a terrible idea but that is a very good cast! Bill Nighy as Sgt. Wilson is inspired!

Isn't that why just about 99% of films are made.

Certainly not meant to be high art.

I know PC lefties like you don't like the idea of making a profit but if people like the film it will make money and if they don't it won't. That's capitalism for you but you socialists don't like that and would rather we had to watch czechoslovak cartoons about singing ringing trees.
  • " Do you really think that's wise, sir?"

    And:

"Do you think I might be excused?"

    :-)

  • Is this a modern day adaptation where a group of pensioners scour their parish for any jihadists ?
  • According to the local news this will be filmed on location in Yorkshire, about which some are already creaming themselves! The original was filmed in Norfolk.

Can't see why it needs to be done. Bit like PL games being played abroad. Mystifying.

Typical. Being offended on someone's behalf.

    Banter
  • Decent cast, but will all hinge on having a script that's good enough and also original. The doubter in me can't shake off visions of Russell Brand in St Trinians.

Can't wait for the Love thy neighbour re-make....................
