WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK ABOUT OTHER CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS?! Is the main credential for a Charlton manager to have read the 'The History Of Burnley F.C., by A. Localhistorian'? How much did Powell really know about the however many other League One teams when he came in? Had he that much experience of playing in a cloggers' league? No. I don't give a toss whether the new guy has encyclopaedic knowledge of all 92 clubs as long as he does a good job at one club - Charlton Athletic. Pochettino didn't even SPEAK English when he came to Southampton and that didn't turn out too shabby.
Do you really not understand that with such limited resources - and time - some knowledge of opposing players, bosses, strengths and weaknesses might just help a little? As might a proven ability to get the best out of moderate players who also understand what they're up against. I genuinely wish him well but have to doubt his suitability in our current predicament.
I do understand your point - I just totally disagree with it. We knew about Sheffield United - they beat us quite convincingly. We did research on the likes of Doncaster and Birmingham, they beat us too. Chris Powell must know more about Leicester than anyone not a current staff member there - they beat us. Knowledge is not power. Coming in with no preconceptions and no apprehension could be the way forward. Enough with trying to counter the other teams' tactics - at least try imposing our own. It cannot work out any worse.
Be interesting to see if the current squad are capable of this fresh new approach. I do acknowledge that eg vs Sheffield Utd. we should've been more positive in taking our game to them, but knowledge of the opposition doesn't necessarily equate to fear of them. Knowledge of QPR certainly played a part in overcoming their strengths and weaknesses. If JR can impose a successful breed of football that frees the players from their shackles by not knowing much about their opponents I'll enjoy it as much as you. Fingers crossed...

Am I happy Powell was sacked? Not especially, though it would be silly to ignore the poor form this season, some of which has to be down to the manager and coaching staff. Am I happy Riga has been appointed? Not especially, though I'm prepared to give him a chance. If Roland wants a network of clubs, and wants to move players around between them, then the clubs need to be at a similar level, a L1 Charlton wouldn't be much use for a Liege in the Champions League.
All this science malarky may not work on a freezing cold Tuesday night, pissing it down, up in Carlisle with 2 blades of grass on the pitch.. It's the wrong league for all this. And if he keeps us up, good luck to him applying his tactics in such a short space of time. And with the players we have.
Playing good quality passing football will work on a cold or hot Tuesday night anywhere. Do you not think it gets a bit nippy in Belgium or Denmark or wherever. As for the players I doubt many of our current players will be here next season regardless of division.

With 16 games remaining, I don't see how a head coach with no experience of English football (and probably little knowledge of our players) is going to pull us out of a tight Championship relegation fight. I'm not convinced that the players will have sufficient time to adapt effectively to new methods and ideas, and I'm fairly certain that morale will have taken a serious hit among a group of tight-knit players who were fiercely loyal to their previous manager.
My season ticket renewal form arrived today, which seems like a sick joke. Of course, I will renew for next season, and I'll be at The Valley tomorrow cheering on my team. I support Charlton, not any one manager or any one player. It's just a shame that Charlton feels a little less Charlton this evening.

Out of respect for his position? You're allowed to shout loudly at football matches 'you know what you've gotta do, lets get behind the boys and make some noise'. We are officially encouraged to make a noise, if that noise is cosmic vituperation then they have brought it on themselves. I will get behind him if he delivers result after result, and then stands up to Roland as Chris Powell appears to have done.
