Charlton boss Chris Powell on QPR hitlist should Harry Redknapp leave Loftus Road

Chris Powell will find himself on the shortlist to become QPR boss when Harry Redknapp leaves, writes Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday People.

Redknapp, 67, is suffering knee pain and is expected to part company with Rangers at the end of the season.

Even though his Charlton side lie bottom of the Championship, Powell is one of the men who has been mooted to take over at the Hoops.

His Addicks contract expires at the end of this season, and he is seeking clarification over the club’s direction before penning a new deal.

Powell has been in place at the Valley since January 2011 but can expect an approach from the QPR board if Redknapp stands down.

Good for him. Be able to spend some money and he'll probably chuck all the high-earning wasters and get some decent players in. He'd deserve it

He's a brilliant manager. The QPR board will allow him to express themselves. Good for him!

that move will really show what a top manager he is. Will be able to do a massive clear out of the shit they have and bring in some top players. Would not blame him to take it at all.
  • Qpr probally won't sell his best players he's brought in from under his nose
  • Good luck Chris if u go I wouldn't blame u
  • I'll drive him over to Loftus road

Will you now? The manager who stampeded us out of L1, nearly took us to the Playoffs last season and has spent this season and last hamstrung by lack of investment and bizarre ownership decisions? Sometimes I feel we deserve the Dowies and Reeds we end up with

Harry's likely to leave QPR due to knee pain? Nothing to do with failure to motivate his expensive and overpaid squad then...

Three Charlton managers have won a divisional title and reached the quarter final of the FA Cup

    Jimmy Seed

    Alan Curbishley

    Chris Powell

outsiders will appreciate the suffocating constraints Powell has operated under even if a vociferous minority of Charlton "fans" do not.
  • But he is the manager who will relegate us from the championship this season

Pretty sure the players are involved at some level. The one on the pitch. Where the games happen.

are you aware of the circumstances under which that relegation may occur or are those factors irrelevant to you isawalonsoplay?
  • Yes, the players are involved because Powell picks them and tells them what to do

Yeah, I bet he tells them 'don't bother scoring lads. Fall asleep at the back post Wiggy. Callum, when they attack down the left, don't bother picking up the marauding right back and give him a shot on goal'. I think you've confused the word 'manager' with 'master puppeteer'. It's not Fifa you know..

You won't be saying that once you see who we get as a replacement I suspect.

It's not hate. I'm 100% still behind Chris but just of late I just don't get his team selection or tactics.

We had nothing to fear today. But played as if we were petrified of them. One shot in 90 mins by the striker substitute.

Only my opinion but I think our attitude from both manager and players gifted them that game.

Outside of Cousins on the right, I doubt anyone would've wanted different players on that pitch before the game. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

He may as well with his team selection and tactics. Cousins on the right, Harriot starting, Jackson in the middle, Astric on the bench. It may not be FIFA but he can use what he has better than he does.

The same Harriott that scored against Wednesday? The same Jackson that scored the winner vs QPR? Yes, i'd much rather leave people out that can score goals when we're struggling for them.

Are you under the impression that Chris Powell uses a Playstaiton controller to move the players round the pitch? Did he put the controller down at some point, to take a phone call from his girlfriend? I did that once, and my friend was furious with me. He had a very fair point.

You on the other hand, do not.

I agree with you there, it wasn't the best team selection, but it's nonsense to give the players a free ride like you are. Utter nonsense.
