Charlton boss Chris Powell on QPR hitlist should Harry Redknapp leave Loftus Road

  • I am not giving the players a free ride, I'll save that for another thread. This thread is about Powell being so brilliant and going to QPR. I never said Jackson should be left out, I questioned him playing in the middle. Read the post before trying to be smart.
  • Read the post before trying to be smart.

Did you check Astric's fitness data before saying he should have started?
  • ..........to work in the QPR club shop ?
  • Not just "fans" slagging off on here and at Valley - there were loads at Bramall Lane today. Some of the abuse towards Cousins was disgraceful. Wish they would clear off to Chelsea or stay at home playing FIFA...
  • As expected, seems a fair few posters on here would barely have been able to conceal their smile when the second went in today. I'm sure there's a large minority of our fans that actually enjoy us losing more than winning, there's certainly a fair few that only find their voice when we lose (both on here and at The Valley) and seem only interested in slagging off a man that has only ever shown professionalism, loyalty and love for this club.

It wasn't pretty today but I'm not sure what I would have done differently in terms of starting line up and I'm not sure what difference it would have made anyway given the squad he has to work with - it's not like there were a load of other viable options sat on the bench today is it? I don't know why the circumstances that Powell has been operating in are constantly ignored. The situation under TJ and MS was as abysmal as the pitch, the first transfer window under the new owner saw our playmaker and talisman striker leaving and replaced by a ragtag bunch of overseas reserves with barely minutes of experience of the English game to share between them. What do you expect? The guy's a football manager not an alchemist.

He's not perfect, today was ugly, the season has been ugly and frustrating but it's so easy to lay the blame solely at Powell's door and call for a new manager. How appealing do you think we are to a decent manager right now? Come and manage Charlton, we have an unplayable pitch, a substandard squad, an owner that will move your best players on to Belgium (or Bournemouth or Brighton) and land you with reserve players from teams in substandard overseas leagues in return. I'm sure that managerial talent will be beating down the door for a role like that. Powell is only still here himself because of the loyalty of the man.

The Powell haters constantly point out that he's not some God like figure that is immune to criticism and yet they expect him to perform miracles. Powell is not immune to criticism but there's very little that I've seen on here that is in anyway constructive, each game we lose, we jump straight to calling for his head, how can there be nothing in between silence and ousting? The only thing more disappointing than the performance for me today was the glee with which our own fans rush to kick a man that has had the rug pulled from under him.

    Fantastic post
  • I think there is blame to be shared all round. Powell is not the messiah but he's an honest manager who we should have faith in. The 2 outgoings in the summer as much as they appear to be stupid pieces of business now from an outsiders perspective, a midfielder who has made a few noises about wanting a move not just once and an ageing striker who turned down new deals. The players haven't been perfect this season but they've shown in games that they have something about them to achieve results. The new signings have all shown they can be effective and Thuram on the bench for 3 games in a row shows that he is not being "forced" in the team. I think RD is just trying to help but understands that he is human and makes mistakes. I think Powell likes the new players but maybe he feels they aren't ready just yet. If we go down, we go down. There's definitely a platform now to be a better run club than we have been for a number of years. Harriott is proving his inconsistencys but he's a young winger, if he had a stormer every game he probably wouldn't be here, good wingers are in high demand and he is still learning the game. I for one am gutted but still feel optimistic about the future
  • Has anyone blamed the ref yet ? If not can I be the first.

    Need to blame Hamer first.

  • I can tell you for one I didn't smile when the second went in after spending £500 attending three Sheffield fixtures, did you? Did you smile thinking "boy I saved myself £500 there when all those other mugs that actually went to a game didn't"

I didn't read Astric's "fitness data" but if he was injured he shouldn't be in the squad. If he was carrying a knock, you man up and play the fuck on. We have all done it at any level of football. This was an FA cup quarter final, it doesn't come around too often as only we know too well.

I'd still fucking drive him to Loftus road, listen to all his excuses on the way of why he never had a fair chance with us, put two feet in his back and kick him out the car when we got there. You work with what you have, if you can't do very well someone else will.

If we don't change it at the end of the season (it's way too late now to do anything I think plus there is no one worth employing right now other than Paul Hart probably) then we are finished.

Vilify me all you want, I just have the bollocks to say what most people outside the "clique" on here are thinking.

I don't think saying what you are means you have 'bollocks.' It's hardly the most controversial thing ever said is it?

I don't think you'd ever hear him say he didn't get a fair chance. He will keep his counsel Im sure. But he deserves the opportunity to explain to us what has been going on behind the scenes for the past two years as I expect we don't know the half of it.

    You've been done mate.

Three return train journeys, a hotel, two match tickets and beer money? Don't think so

Don't kid yourself that you're the brave one. You're the one giving out a childish reaction to a manager struggling in a bad situation. But no, you're right, let's employ Paul Hart, a man who is an excellent youth coach but has nothing but a list of failures as a manager.

If Lisbie hadn't missed that sitter against Watford, this would never have happened.
  • I said Paul Hart was probably the manager we could employ. I didn't say he was the best man for the job.

I also never purported to be the brave one, there are another thousand or so who have done the same as me so I'm not alone, I'm just the "brave" one voicing

I thought PH was already in CAFC employment. But pray tell us who is the answer, not sure RD is the type of owner who wants to pay off CP and his backroom staff and bring a new man with his own backroom staff in before he knows what division we are playing in next season, so unless CP walks, you are stuck with him until the end of the season.

There is nothing brave about being a keyboard warrior.

There are plenty of people who have the same view as you, doesn't make it right. I don't agree, it doesn't make me right either.

RD would never employ Hart to replace Powell in my opinion. I assume that he would get a foreign coach in who none of us know. But what do I know?

Powell has said that he has agreed financial terms for his new contract but not on other matters. I guess this is over who controls the the squad and team selection.

Look back at what I said. I said we are probably stuck with him, what business man would sack a manger and his back room staff knowing they are a few games away from relegation and their contracts finishing and inheriting the club at 4mill less than the agreed price as a result. I'm no keyboard warrior, I feel I have offered reasoned argument, I also haven't said who our next manger will be as I haven't a clue. This board will employ someone they want not someone they inherited who isn't up to the job. This is an opinions message board, remember that.

  • A good friend of mine tore up his season ticket when Pardew was made manager and never set foot in the Valley until he had been sacked I always admired for that. If you are so against CP do you still attend games if so why.

  • It's not hate. I'm 100% still behind Chris but just of late I just don't get his team selection or tactics.

We had nothing to fear today. But played as if we were petrified of them. One shot in 90 mins by the striker substitute.

Only my opinion but I think our attitude from both manager and players gifted them that game.

    My thoughts too SHG

  • Yes, because unlike your friend I will support the club 90-180 minutes per week like most do regardless of who is in charge. I stay until the end of every drubbing, I clap the team off the pitch etc etc, that doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion about our manager. You can all support him if you wish, it's your choice and I don't hold anything against anyone for doing so, we are all entitled to say what we like. I do think that a lot of people are blinkered by his "talent" just because he played for us and because (management ability aside) he is great bloke and decent man. Those factors do not make a good manager in themselves.

no I was so f**king angry when the second went in I though my phone in the bin kicked the bin that sent rubbish everywhere!
  • Maybee dowie might come back!
Then u will have something to moan about
  • There's plenty on here who haven't been to a gome for ages and
Prefer us to lose to have something to moan about
  • Utter nonsense. Powell has failed to prove himself as a Championship manager. There is not a cat in hell's chance QPR see him as the man to reach the Premiership. Think about it!

I have never said I support CP, I only asked who you wanted instead, but that you refuse or unable to answer, with that I am out of this debate.
  • They want a manager with a promotion and a cup run?

    Phil Parkinson
  • One serious shot in anger over 90 shite minutes, if that's you are willing to accept, then it's Crewe away next season.
