    Deadfall sucks though. Quite badly.

In your opinion. I've seen far far worse this year.

As opposed to what? Why don't you preface all your thread-dominating posts with 'in my opinion'?

Deadfall has a 34% rating on rotten tomatoes. It has a 52% rating on metacritic. I'm surrounded by film reviewers daily, and haven't heard a good review for Deadfall. And it's our job to sell it!! You shouldn't be so sensitive about the balance being redressed.

  • PS Beds, I'm interested to know your top ten movies of the year. But only if you don't post a trailer for each one....

I liked it. You didn't. Your right and so am I .

IMDB gives it a 6.2 rating which I pretty much agree with.

My Top Ten Movies of 2013

    1-Before Midnight
    2-The Place Beyond the Pines
    3-Only God Forgives
    4-Captain Phillips
    5-The Crash Reel
    6-Prisoners
    7-Star Trek Into Darkness
    8-Gravity
    9-BlackFish
    10-A Hijacking

( Out of The Furnace , The Wee Man & Mud just miss out)

  • In no particular order...

Secret Life of Walter Mitty - sweet.
    Prisoners - performances and cinematography.
Blackfish - biased, but necessarily so.
The Way, Way Back - sweet.
    Django Unchained - Tarantino.
    Gravity - thrilling
    Mud - sucker for mcconaughey
    Nebraska - sweet and funny
Act of Killing - fuck that
    Place Beyond Pines - unique

Didn't get a chance to see Rush, Cap Phillips, Out of Furnace, Blue Is Warmest or Good Vibrations. Got those to look forward to.

So some cross over. I always think if someone enjoyed a movie more than me, they win! Unless it's Man of Steel. I'm willing to fight over that one. Sure, break Zod's neck for threatening a family, but hang on, didn't 10,000 people just die in the annihilation of Metropolis?

Also a good year for non-comic books or sequels. I find it's rare to get a top ten of original stories.
  • Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

Idris Elba is superb as Mandela but the film feels awfully rushed despite it being two and a half hours long.
It would have been better if it concentrated on one aspect of his life rather than all of it.

I think it's safe to assume that it is always his opinion. If he says which actor was in it then that is a fact and can be correct or wrong, but if anyone on here give a review of a film (or a players' performance) then it should be assumed that it is an opinion.

Interestingly I don't tend to agree with all the views on films on here or the TV series thread. However, over a period of time, I've worked out which other posters tend to like the kind of stuff I like and have gone out of my way to watch films and/or TV programs based on their recommendations.

A view can't be wrong. If I don't have the same view then that probably affects how I see any future views from that poster, but it's not at all uncommon for IMDB to have a different view to RT and in those cases not everyone can be right (or wrong).

Thanks Beds, always enjoy your posts.

Am I right in thinking 'Before Midnight' is a sequal? If so, would you say that you need to see the first one in order to enjoy the most recent film?

    Thanks Rufus.

Before Midnight is the third film in the series. The first is Before Sunrise (1995) and the second Before Sunset (2004) .
I would definitely say you have to watch the first two to appreciate the relationship between Ethan Hawke's and Julie Delpy's on screen characters.
Get hold of them on DVD , you wont regret it. They are brilliant movies.

That's all absolutely true...so why say to me "in your opinion"? Sure I could start each sentence with IMO or "I think", but I figured that was assumed.

    About Time

Welcome to the sickly sweet world of Richard Curtis. A man who only makes films about extremely nice posh people and with About Time he has excelled himself. I couldn't relate to single person in this movie ( or any of his others)
    Horrendous.
    Where is that bucket.

  • The Wolf on Wall Street is a great flick
  • Saw Anchorman 2 yesterday. What a waste of time and money. Had about 3 chuckles tops. Will Ferrell has never been all that in my eyes but the 1st film was funny, this one has put the final nail in the coffin for Will Ferrell movies for me.
  • Hobbit 2 last night which I thoroughly enjoyed unlike LOTR 2&3...so Im going to say its a 7/10
  • I took the wife to see American Hustle last night. What a complete pile of tosh!! The plunging neckline of Amy Adams was the only thing that held my interest.

Saw it this afternoon. One of the best films I have ever seen. Superb acting, writing, dialogue, editing. Right up there with Goodfellas, Sting, Godfather 1.
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Enjoyable romp that looks fantastic on the big screen . The second act lets it down a little when the far fetched stuff isn't in his imagination but the ending makes up for it.

  • Saw a preview of The Railway Man before Christmas, and think it is out on general release at the end of this week.

Based on a true story of a prisoner of war, with good performances from Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman.

    All in all, worth seeing.

  • Saw Walter Mitty and American Hustle this weekend. Both excellent. Plenty on to see at the cinema in January.
  • Saw Anchorman 2 just before Christmas. Loved the first one and this one was as good. My kind of humour.

On Saturday watched The Hobbit 2 on the IMAX 3D screen at Bluewater. The film was ok but the effects were stunning. At times it was so real felt like looking through a window at the unfolding events. Worth paying the extra money.
  • Secret Life of Walter Mitty was last night's film...depsite some bad reviews I thoroughly enjoyed it and came out with a smile on my face...another very good film 8/10. I enjoyed Sean Penn's cameo, he finally fits his craggy looks. I want to try and catch American Hustle before it ends its stint here...its already been relegated to late evening showings.
  • Saw a preview of 12 Years a Slave last night - very intense and hard to watch at times, but very good.

Easy to see why it is being tipped for the Oscars.
  • 12 years a slave

An extremely difficult watch but without doubt an Academy award contender. Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance is the best i have seen for a long while and he deserves all the plaudits. Michael Fassbender is superb also.

  • I see that the BAFTA nominations are now out.

Quite an interesting clutch of films - http://awards.bafta.org/award/2014/film

The ones on my "to see" list are 12 Years A Slave, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Great Beauty and The Act Of Killing.

Saw American Hustle, really, really good film. The story was interesting and very well developed but I think what made it stand out was the acting, the 4 main characters all played their part perfectly special mention to Bradley Cooper who made me realise he's a far better actor than what I gave him credit for, and Jennifer Lawrence who was also fantastic, but i may be swayed by the fact that I'd give my left nut just to touch her for a split second with the right one.

    Gotta agree with 8/10
  • Another thumbs up for American Hustle. Interesting that it was fiction but it was based around true events that were happening at that time.
  • 12 years a slave, the promo looks good, but I've not seen any promos over here for it as yet.
  • I saw 12 Years a Slave in USA. 100% recommend it although it will make you think
