No, the guys whose advert it was (BreamTeam) got all fancy and started producing animations that amounted to more than a pixalated goldfish, disappointing.

Did very well tonight, playing higher up seemed to suit him much more, he's a much better player when just goes for it rather than sitting back.

As he said on his twitter the benchmark has been set. More of the same Saturday please.
  • when you play that well you must go home buzzing, him and Jordan should be going into training on top of the world it was that good a performance from them

good tonight but is generally poor which I have trouble understanding because there is a good footballer in there but he very rarely shows it (in my opinion)

So going by this intelligent non reactionary based argument, our home support vocals must be great because they were decent tonight?

You mean you don't think this is an intelligent argument? I can't think why.

Good game last night, but only does it once every 6 games. Can see why Lambert was interested in him, if he plays like he did last night, but he's not consistent enough. Like all of them last night, needs to play like that every game.

The enigma that is Dale Stephens one week we are gonna sell him to Villa for 2 mil the next week he should be turning out for the Dog and Duck!
    A problem with consistency anyone?

    this

still not sure he'd get in my first choice midfield, Cousins is a shoe in and I'd like to see him play with Hughes

Hughes would sit much deeper and this would mean more chance of our front 3 getting isolated. Stephens is frustratingly inconsistent but with him confident and fired up worth his place at the moment. Although if Jackson gets fit could be the one to give way

I am his biggest critic, but hands up he was outstanding last night. If only he was consistently like this. Probably why he is such a frustrating player for us. He has it, but is not motivated enough to reproduce week in week out.

Having seen all games bar one this season Stevens would be my POTY by a mile at present. I don't understand those that say he goes missing. When the chips are down he always makes himself available and never shirks responsibility. From my perspective it's his colleagues that go missing which gives him few options at times which is why he can sometimes dwell on the ball or is forced to pass it backwards or sideways.

I think we all can see "Stephens", but some value him on what he can do, whilst the majority value him on what he does do.

THE QUESTION IS :- IF HE CAN PERFORM LIKE THAT, WHY HAS IT TAKEN SO MANY YEARS AND WHY DOESN'T HE DO IT CONSISTENTLY ?

Wasn't there last night, but if Stephens can show any kind of consistency then he can be a hell of an important player for us this season. When he had a decent game against Leicester it made a massive difference for us.

Really hope that come saturday evening we're talking about another effective game he's had.
  • TBH - I think that we often play to a system that inhibits certain players to accommodate others. Probably to accommodate Jackson & Pritchard at the moment. Stephens may not being playing to his natural skill. It does take time to adapt.

Stephens like most players this season has blown hot & cold. Although I think he has been one of our better players this season. Pritchard can have a cracking game or half a game then be totally out of another (Millwall) and can't get anything right!!

We have been like that for years. It isn't often that we have a cracking 90 mins it usually a good 45 minutes. Either we start well and get nervous and the mistakes set (especially after the crowd get on the team's back) or a poor first half & get a rollicking and have a better second half.

To be fair to Stephens his game is harder to make consistent than other players. Take Pritchard for example, its easier for him to put a shift in, get in players faces, make tackles and still be classed as having a good game. Whereas Stephens is relying on his team mates to show for the pass, be available and want the ball. If others around him arent doing that then he becomes almost redundant and people say "well Stephens didnt do much today so he must have been crap". Its why he would look a better player the higher he went in some ways.

To be fair, he needs to make up some ground as he is getting praise but he was the best player on the pitch (both sides) last night.

Finally we have someone who get's it, and exactly what Brunello said, if you have no movement it is very difficult to play your game.Stephens collects the ball from the centre half's looks up no movement what is he supposed to do ? He then has to go either backwards or sidewards and people ripe the crap out of him.If we have movement around him and in front of him, he will deliver the goods.

yeah. wholehartedly agree. the mercurial, ball player who tries the harder things is always going to be more inconsistent than the dogged workhorse.

i reckon jordan cousins would make anyone look as good as they want to. at this level, jordan seems to have the physique to play the power game but also the finesse needed to really hurt teams. a simple game based on extremely high levels of fitness and technique.

ive been a staunch critique of dale before because it always upsets me to see any person not making full use of their talents...but i have to say from last night, well played dale keep it up.

This is a really odd thread. The first page is so angry... the second.. I'm not sure if people are talking about Dale Stephens or the fish.

Maybe the LCM position he took up last night helped him? Odd as it seems he did a great job helping out Wiggo but was willing to make runs and put a foot in.
We've been over this 100 times with Dale, but theres a quality player there he just needs to keep going.
