Well some fans believe he's hiding his sexuality so it's like an implication that he's covering it up0
-
Maybe some want to come out others dont----their call.
Years ago in a 5 star hotel a butler called Paul was a good mate he was gay. Very very good looking guy, who use to join us for a drink regular, and the women panted over him. I lost count of the number of times i was asked about him and non of the women believed me that he was gay. I knew his partner Stafford who was an outragious gay man. They both thought it was funny that the women wanted Paul. One Xmas we had a massive firms party + Paul and Stafford turned up Paul in Top Hat and Tails --Staffard as a Brazilian Samba dancer !! It still makes me smile that entrance--------no one bar no one was in any doubt they were a couple after that.Their choice to make the statement, their choice to make that entrance.0 -

You really think that they are angry that he's not being open about his sexuality? You believe that?

FFS - this thread is embarrassing.
And that Twitter geek needs a fcuking good hiding - then we'll see how brave he is. Total embarrassment.0 -
He's probably about 16 and thinks he's tough when he is with his mates.
All talk.0 -
It's interesting isn't it? If this was a thread about racism and fans on here were condoning racists songs and/or attitude towards racism, I suspect it would quickly be shut down with the members kicked-out of Charlton Life.0

Never once said that, but it's a weak link for away fans to exploit, it's what football fans do and always have doneHenry Irving said:Greenie Junior said:Well some fans believe he's hiding his sexuality so it's like an implication that he's covering it up

And how is it a "weak link". He's not gay but even if he was being gay isn't a weak link.
Would it be OK to taunt Billy Sharpe about his son dying as it is a "weak link"?
Or is it OK to taunt Kevin Lisbie about living in a tree because that is a "weak link"?
Or maybe it is just stupid bigots showing their ignorance and hatred of things they don't understand and so fear.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Greenie doesn't necessarily mean it as a "weak link", more of something that can try and affect the player's emotions and make them feel uncomfortable. Maybe just wrong use of wording, that's all?Henry Irving said:

Yes that is what I mean Tom, Henry those other cases are a lot more serious IMO, I wouldn't join in with them songs but would with the Ambrose song, as the majority of people at Birmingham did0
-
sad that this thread has almost 5 times as many comments as the thread praising our support on saturday, which was top class.

Well at least you're honest enough to admit that you think singing homophobic songs is OK, sad though that is.Greenie Junior said:Yes that is what I mean Tom, Henry those other cases are a lot more serious IMO, I wouldn't join in with them songs but would with the Ambrose song, as the majority of people at Birmingham did
And I'd seriously question if it was the majority of the people at Birmingham singing the song. The abuse maybe but not the song.
I agreeValleyGary said:sad that this thread has almost 5 times as many comments as the thread praising our support on saturday, which was top class.

The entrance fee entitles fans to watch a football match. There is no entitlement to use abusive and discriminatory language to insult a fellow citizen - language that if used outside the fan herd would possibly land the person using it in court. To write such nonsense on a public domain website like CL. is wrong. It is not illegal to be 'gay' and it's no ones business anyway.0
-
Not homophobic IMO it says nothing about being gay being wrong, nor mocks it, it just exploits the player0

He seemed like a nice guy to me - he took pictures with the fans, signed autographs and tried his best. He was forced to leave because we couldn't afford his wages. He has never bad mouthed you or Charlton. He has a family and there is not anything to show he is 'gay'. I think the insults say more about the insulters than the insulted.0
-
Sorry but that's just nonsense.Greenie Junior said:Not homophobic IMO it says nothing about being gay being wrong, nor mocks it, it just exploits the player
The song clearly suggests that he practices homosexual activity and it clearly sung as an insult and as something the singers see as wrong.
Being gay isn't wrong or bad but you are singing it as an insult whatever you say here.
And if it doesn't then why do you say it exploits him and why do you sing it?
0 -
I sing it because it's a catchy song to put a player off that alot of people joined in on, obviously your not going to stop until you get the last word so that's me done here0
-
Exploits the player - do you have the right to exploit anybody? For Darren it is a form of psychological abuse that he doesn't deserve. Just because you are a football 'fan' doesn't give you the right to publically insult anyone. Would you 'exploit' him if you met him in person?0

Its "catchy" well that's OK then.
The lisbie song has the same "catchy" tune so that must be OK too.
Very sad.0 -
How about I have the last word............."game set and match to Henry".Greenie Junior said:I sing it because it's a catchy song to put a player off that alot of people joined in on, obviously your not going to stop until you get the last word so that's me done here

Maybe he might learn a little from having his views challenged for once. Singing insulting songs is bad karma: Portsmouth sing the Adams family song about the Saints and looked what has happened to Pompy. We sang 'we sent the Palace down' and look what happened to us the next season. Got to be careful what you sing, you never know how things will turn out.0

.
So anyone who sings the Ambrose song may end up - Sorry, bad taste and I should not make light of a serious matter at least one person has been shown to totally underestimate.felthamaddict said:Maybe he might learn a little from having his views challenged for once.
