Just wondering, would Nathan have been at Brighton the same season they had Joe Bennett on loan?
Looks like Nathan Jones was even briefly Caretaker Manager (Dec-Feb) at Brighton in 2014, the season Bennett was on loan there. He then went back to being First Team Coach
I knew there had to be some crossover. That was the dreadful Sami Hyypia experiment season they had.
I have managed to watch all the friendlies live or streamed, there is no way that we are undercooked or under readied fitness wise. There is every chance however that such was the intensity of the cardiovascular training upon their return to training that a couple or few of the older ones picked up calf, thigh or hamstring strains. Nathan’s game is all about spatial closure and man to man press, while he will know that 80%+ of the teams will have more possession in game than us this season, so our fitness and stamina levels would have had to ratchet up a bit from league one level. I think our better than most fitness last season saw us get a lot of late goals in games etc. based on this approach.
Berry, Godden and Burke (his general injury proness in mind) would all be likely candidates for strains in the above circumstances imho.
From the latest Cawley substack and after a mention of Knibbs
"But the Welshman was also keen to make the point that some of the transfer fees reported for signings has been wide of the mark.
“We’d like to bring one, maybe two in,” said Jones. “But definitely one. That is something we’ve not made a secret of.
“Don’t believe everything you hear by the way, in terms of certain stuff with the spending. But the board have backed what we wanted to do. We have been realistic spenders and spent on assets, people that will get better and do well for this football club. Hopefully, God-willing, they will give us a good season in the Championship."
So basically, he is saying it's not as much as £3.5m for Kelman and maybe not as much as reported for Knibbs, Apter etc.

The reported Knibbs fee is £1.8m My guess is he was specifically pouring water on Fabriziio Romano's claim that Kelman was £3.5m rising to £5m as Rich said he hadn't had anyone able to confirm that

Should be the Reading boss implied that a fee was agreed the day of their Portsmouth game on Saturday. Doesn’t take 3 days to do a medical and media footage
I believe Cawley stated £3 mil, Fabrizio and elsewhere seems to go with £3.5 rising to 5, QPR fans are claiming £5 million. I know who I'd veer towards being the most accurate.
Sounds like Knibbs is here already. Was listening to Rich Cawley’s pod and during Jones’s tribute to poor Ethan, a trainer in the background is putting the players through their paces. At one point he starts shouting “Come on the Knibbs” or “Harvey Knibbs”.

We can't have it both ways Pav ?
Either Dr Will Abbott is very skilled in sports science and how to have players reach an optimum level by the first match or he isn't. Even then it takes a few matches to get to prime fitness and with the bigger squad some don't get any minutes on match days.
Of course in the videos from Slovenia they were doing runs from day one but not to an excess and if Godden had an issue on the first day of training then maybe underlying problem from last season when he played more minutes at the business end because he was our number one scorer.
Berry wasn't fit at the end of last season and must be way behind the rest and Burke we know was described as Injury prone at Luton.

Fabrizio has 36 million followers on his X page, so he's probably added some gloss to his tweet.

A way for QPR to get out there that they got a really deal perhaps.

Agree with this and other figures are likely the same. I'm guessing/heard the figures are correct as a whole package with add on etc but not indicative of what we pay upfront
What do we think the position of the "maybe one other" will be?
I actually think - looking at the size of Ipswich's team last night - we could do with another CB...
But also we look light at RB/RWB
and do we have enough cover in the middle of the park - say, if Coventry were to get injured?
I think it's just the wing backs where we look light. I'd like a quality RWB but I agree with others that it's likely that we bring in Lembikisa and/or Bennett to cover there.
With JRC, Coventry, Anderson and Doc in the middle I think we're fine there - believe Knibbs has the physicality to play further back if required as well.

Depends. If we are winning and he changes that to a defeat it wasn't! 🤣
