Wasn’t it rumoured there was one player deciding between us and another club whilst Costello was also visiting the club. Potentially DKD deciding between us and Oxford although can’t see us dropping 2.5M on one player
Agree, that’s a lot of money to spend on a player turning 28 in Nov. I like us spending money but that seems like a frivolous way to spend it
If he produces moments of class that keep us in the division it can be as frivelous as it wants to be.

This isn't a controversial opinion, this is the realistic opinion. All this talk of mid-table and comfortably staying up is pie in the sky stuff, unless we significantly strengthen.
I think we have been out of the championship for too long and people don't pay attention to football other than Charlton, that or it is just a case of exreme optimism. A mid-table finish for Nathan Jones would deserve the manager of the season award.
Or people do pay attention to the championship and other teams by side Charlton and just have a different opinion to you, I think you’re underestimating the momentum we have and the team Jones has built and the togetherness we have as a club the last 6 months.

I don't underestimate momentum or togetherness at all, it just isn't exclusive to Charlton Athletic. There will be 23 other teams that have their version of togetherness or momentum, or both.
So like I said, either just not being aware of how strong the championship is, or an extreme optimist if your view is that we can achieve mid-table.
No I don’t think that many teams will have the momentum and togetherness we have that’s why so many managers come and go but I believe Jones will see out the season. The way you write on here is so condescending and rude pal.
Fair enough, you have that view that we have a better togetherness, I believe every team will have their own story and way of them getting mentally prepared to play games so ours won't make too much difference vs the likes of Ipswich, Southampton, Sheffield United etc compared to playing against* Leyton Orient, Wycombe, Stockport etc.

Right now, I don’t see where the goals are going to come from. I think the defense as currently constructed is good enough to avoid the drop but we really need a couple decent players in the attack for me to feel comfortable that we won’t be in a relegation scrap

It’s not gonna be easy but I still think we’ll finish around mid table, surprised people haven’t mentioned Portsmouth being weak this season I don’t think their team is all that. I still think we’ll bring in another 4 by the end of the window as we’ll have 3/4 leave.

Remember we started slow last year and I think that was previously a characteristic of Jones' teams at Luton as well from memory. Will be an adjustment period for the squad and for us having got used to winning most weeks!

Think we’re going to be in a relegation scrap regardless if we do get in another good attacker or 2 the quality of the championship is just so much higher than L1.
Interestingly (well maybe) there was a lot of talk on NTT20 about how the majority of team pivoted away from a back 3 over the course of last season and back to a back four, maybe there will be a change to combat this.
I guess at this stage don't know. NJ seemed very fixed on one formation at the start of the season, it almost got him sacked and we went then through a few formations before landing on the strange lop-sided 352 we saw success with. Maybe the same happens this season.
That's a bit steep, I don't think Nathan's job was ever in jeopardy, he was finding his best formation and line-up, which came good in December iirc...
Didn't he say himself that fans were calling for his head after the Crawley defeat - I seem to remember there being a lot of pressure at that point
Fans weren't happy of course, but the board were backing him...
Some fans … most understood that it was a project and nothing was going to be done overnight and plus we had 10 players missing through injury

Not me. I thought Nathan Jones was a busted flush and his football was shite. Actually didn’t call for his head because I accepted that we couldn’t keep sacking managers but was convinced he wasn’t the answer. I’ve not eaten humble pie because it doesn’t do my climb down justice. I think he’s absolutely what Charlton Athletic need. You can praise the owners for supporting him but he pretty much on his own has turned around everything about the club. He’s united every facet of the club and given us back pride and hope in our club.

I think you’re underestimating the step up. The best of the 3 promoted sides last year finished 16th. If we finish any higher than that it would be a miraculous effort

Revenue in the championship is £10m+ more than it is in league 1. Still lose a lot of money of course, but we can spend a lot more at this level, which we are doing this summer
