All this chat of us having signed lots of defenders. We needed them and I would suggest we still need two more. Squad currently looks something like the below to me...which means a RWB is absolute priority but another LB, CAM and Striker certainly wouldn't go amiss.
I am still hoping for 3 real stand out players in those positions who elevate the whole team to another level but I am likely being greedy.

Controversial opinion, as it is, I think this team struggles
It’s not gonna be easy but I still think we’ll finish around mid table, surprised people haven’t mentioned Portsmouth being weak this season I don’t think their team is all that. I still think we’ll bring in another 4 by the end of the window as we’ll have 3/4 leave.
Disagree big time on the mid table finish. This league is relentless and currently I think we have a strong league one team.
Do agree on Portsmouth, they go down next season for me.
The drop will be between Oxford, Hull, Pompey and Sheff Wed. I think we'll be comfortable and end up around 16th/17th.
Love your optimism, but I think we will be in the thick of it unfortunately.
I'm usually known for my negativity so it makes a nice change 😂

Unless Wrexham start pulling some more signings out of the bag I reckon they will also be in the mix. Their style of football was functional rather than spectacular.
Phil Parkinson when he was a pundit for the play offs said no doubt Wrexham and Charlton would be looking at the same sort of players in the window if Charlton win the final. That doesn't seem to be the case so far.
I'm sure we would have considered Ryan Hardie. Until Wrexham sign more players, it's difficult to know what their budget is.

Yeah I think they could be in trouble unless they get this supposed chequebook out of theirs. Played functional football and I don't rate Parky at this level.

This isn't a controversial opinion, this is the realistic opinion. All this talk of mid-table and comfortably staying up is pie in the sky stuff, unless we significantly strengthen.
I think we have been out of the championship for too long and people don't pay attention to football other than Charlton, that or it is just a case of exreme optimism. A mid-table finish for Nathan Jones would deserve the manager of the season award.
I don’t think we’ll be immune from the bottom three and around that territory at times, but ultimately, I think we’ll stay up, probably that bottom seven. Which I’ll happily take.

Agree. The gap between the championship and league one has grown over the past 5 years. Its no coincidence that the teams people are tipping for relegation have been in league one fairly recently.
All we have to do this season is survive. We've made strong, sensible signings of players who are good ages on decent length contracts. You can't build a brilliant team in one window without spending an insane amount but you can build something and then grow it. If we stay up this season then as it currently stands we have no loan signings and as far as I remember no key players due to be out of contract. Assuming we don't get asset stripped next summer we can look at the areas where we struggled and build on that with the next year's budget. Didn't score enough? Spend relatively big on one striker because we don't have to redo the whole squad. Without tempting fate it feels like the Roland/Sandgaard etc days of needing that season to be a success because you were starting over the next one are in the rearview mirror. It's exciting and pretty much unheard of to have players we might see play for us for 3 or 4 years

I don't underestimate momentum or togetherness at all, it just isn't exclusive to Charlton Athletic. There will be 23 other teams that have their version of togetherness or momentum, or both.
So like I said, either just not being aware of how strong the championship is, or an extreme optimist if your view is that we can achieve mid-table.
“I’ve mentioned him a few times, Davis Keillor-Dunn. He increasingly looks closer and closer to going to Charlton, although I’m led to believe that Parky is still very much keeping tabs on that situation. My counter to that would be that they’ve known the price for a while £2.5m-£3m.
“If you really wanted to Davis Keillor-Dunn, you could have got that done by now.”
Oxford fans think he's heading to them
Wasn’t it rumoured there was one player deciding between us and another club whilst Costello was also visiting the club. Potentially DKD deciding between us and Oxford although can’t see us dropping 2.5M on one player
Agree, that’s a lot of money to spend on a player turning 28 in Nov. I like us spending money but that seems like a frivolous way to spend it
If he produces moments of class that keep us in the division it can be as frivelous as it wants to be.
Our owners get ridiculed for not spending money, but if a rumour comes out that they might do, then that gets moaned about. FFS

Pompey, Derby and Oxford all had times last year where it looked like they would go down. I think we will be right in the scrap at times unfortunately but do back us to stay up. I wasn't surprised Wrexham went up last season, as their way of spending made sure they sped through the lower leagues. But I think the whole fairytale will crash for Wrexham as the season starts, they're not good enough for Championship (as there squad currently is) and Parkinson definitely isn't.
Think he'll be gone early (one of first Championship managers to go) and then they'll sort themselves out with big January spend and stay up.
I’m getting a bit tired of the lack of respect being shown to Gassan on here. Mark my words, he’s getting into double figures for goals in the Championship for us next season. Put some respect on Ahadme’s name!

If Jones doesn't take 12 points from the first six games he has to be sacked.
