Loads jumping on the bandwagon with Ahadme. Literally every team in England makes a mistake with signings. For once we've only made 1 cock up, which is a massive improvement on the 10 dossers we usually got left with.
I think the amount of ambiguity about what the transfer fee really was for him doesn't help , seeing 800k-1m thrown around as a possible fee. Realistically that was probably allowing for quite a lot of add-on's.
It was about 350-400k up front I believe
That would make a lot more sense!
  • Ahadme would have been on less last season but most players will have a promotion pay rise written into their contracts

Unfortunately getting promoted was probably a big add on.

Given he finished on 19 league games and his absence was mysterious a few people have suggested he would have needed to play 20 games to activate a promotion add on. Seems possible to me
  • It was a baffling signing at the time, not at all surprised how it’s panned out

Luke Berry "can't tackle" but picked up 9 yellow cards last season so clearly gets stuck in. He's not the lightweight, floating about the pitch type some seem to paint him as
at least 6 of them were for kicking the ball away, i remember them well.
If only they had gone in the net, that might have helped...
  • I’ve just come out of a high level meeting with relevant others, and you won’t believe what’s happening tomorrow.

Gas the baller to buy everyone a pint at Princes Park now we know he's loaded?

Yep, Berry was absolute class last season. No one in there right mine can dig him out for how he played and the commitment and desire he has playing for Charlton.
It is not just me you are arguing with. It is the majority of Charlton supporters. Over the whole course of the season, Berry scored 11th out of our 12 most regular players on the boss's Statbank, ahead of only Anderson.

We are now signing 7 or 8 players to improve the first team and the squad. Even if they do not all click, you can reckon 4 or 5 will push Berry out of the starters line-up and onto the bench, which is what I am saying. If he wants to start games often, he needs to move.

He was let go by Luton because he was not up to Championship standard. Basic problem is he is too slow. That was a year ago. He will be 33 tomorrow, so he is not going to get any quicker. He also can't tackle or head the ball.

He is a good shot and decent passer, but he does not get on the ball often enough to utilize those skills. Also he has poor stamina. He can only play 20 or 30 minutes before he is blowing out of his arse. Which also suits him for a bench role.

Clearly he has a small clique of fanboys here, which is nice. But the majority of our supporters agree with me.

Looking "classy" does not cut it in a relegation battle. Gilbey and Kirk looked "classy".

I'm not arguing with anyone wolfy. It's just opinions mate. I hazard a bet that the majority of supporters would not agree with you. He delivered in spades last season. How do you know why Luton let him go? He was playing in the Prem 2 seasons ago. I'm sure the step down the the champ wouldn't have bothered him at all. We were lucky to get him.

We are upgrading the squad, of course, we have to, and he will play an important part this season, as will the rest of the squad.

Kirk and Gilbey did not look classy ffs, they will never play in the championship, let alone the premier league. Berry has, because he's class.

And the positive with Ahadme compared with those is that I have absolutely no doubt he tries his heart out so he’ll never receive the vilification from most that others get.
  • Spoke to Blackburn season ticket holder. JRC is a squad utility player. Plays in a number of back and midfield positions. Often sub. He is not that bothered if he goes. Fwiw.
