splashing the cash .. other teams .. Zeidane Inoussa a young Swedish winger has reportedly signed for Swansea for £5 MILLION .. even if somewhat exaggerated, a fee like that is what we  are gonna have to pay for top young talent (I had never heard of him before)

No he didn’t. Lewis Wing signed a new contract last week.
Realised that after I posted hence the quick deletion.

I don't think Jones has any intention of casting aside his mainstays from the season just gone.

I wouldn't be surprised if his thinking is to get quality replacements in for the outgoings, and to add to our front line  options as they've been limited.  If we can continue to keep clean sheets, that would be great, but it will be harder now, so more of a goal threat required.

In short, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

MK Dons are trying to sign Charlton midfielder Terry Taylor. The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Northampton and made 27 league appearances across the two clubs. #MKDons #CAFC #Addicks

316 followers so not a credible source especially as we all know TT is injured

Going on what Cawley has just said, he definitely does.

It ends with it seems likely we’ll look to upgrade our goalkeeping department, despite a club record 26 clean sheets.

He'll have to because otherwise we'll be coming straight back down. You can't expect to go up a division and keep the same team, and i suspect even Birmingham will be looking for upgrades.

He will need to sign upgrades in certain positions for sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean casting players aside. They can still remain as back ups/squad players.

Nobody is talking about ripping up the team or dumping players, we're talking about improving the side. And you do that by bringing in new and better players, who will take the place of existing first team players, or at least significantly reduce their minutes. If we can't improve on the existing players, then why are we signing anyone?

Our best 11 from last season, Mannion, Edwards, Gillesphey, Jones, Ramsay, Small, Coventry, Docherty, Berry, Campbell, Godden won't keep us up in the Championship.

If that 11 were fit for 46 games they could be 20th or 21st BUT injuries happen and we need x amount of new players to bring more quality to the team as that 11 were great but the Championship would punish them.

Agree with your post otherwise, and We should aim to be mid table and if we are a tad short of that we are still a championship side so improvements are needed.

That XI would finish dead last in the championship. Even if you only looked at our run from December Stockport Orient and Birmingham still finished above us in the end and Preston who beat us won only 5 out of their last 23 games, 4 if you only look at league games, should have won but that’s the difference in quality between championship and League 1. Jones gives us the best chance of survival but we have to be spot on with our recruitment because if we start the season with 5 L1 quality players we’re doomed from the start.

Talk that Liverpool are looking to sell Gomez for 25M this summer if we’re banking 2.5-5M on that sell on fee that can be huge in investing for this summer
    Or pay some bills

That team would get absolutely dicked almost every week. No chance it would avoid relegation.

It's not a straight choice between change nothing or rip it up and start again though. The answer will lie somewhere in between. I didn't say he'd change nothing. He has to because we're already numbers down with the departures. I know he has transfer targets, and I expect to see some come in.

We are never going to start with that 11 in the Championship as big Phil Chapple hasn't joined the club to make the Tea.
I was being rather kind to that 11 who took Cafc from 14th to 4th and through 3 play off games without conceding.

The championship is an upgrade and we need an upgrade in personnel.
How many will be decided by Nathan, Phil and the owners ?
What fans want will always be more.

My guess is we'll sign players as and when we can.

We're not "waiting" but deals take as long as they take.

Highly unlikely we’re targeting players that are not also being sought by other clubs. There will be a certain amount of reluctance on players and agents part to grab the first thing on offer so I’m expecting quite a bit of our business to be quite drawn out. I did hear some weeks ago that we have up to four players that have in principle agreed to sign for us based on our promotion or not but I’d expect those all to be free agents and we’re waiting for their contracts to end. Which is end of June ?

Discussion on TalkSport now of Sunderland bidding circa £25m for Gomez.
Would love to see him go to Newcastle who are also reportedly interested.  £25M seems cheap. I know he has had injuries but season before last he played 52 games and more than any other Liverpool player.

I'm not getting my hopes up as it feels like there's been talk of this for about the last 4 years and Gomez always ends up staying.

Even if he did go I don't think that we get 2.5-5M as a lump sum, sure I read somewhere the sell on is spread out much the same as when you pay a transfer fee.

    It is.

But it varies from deal to deal.

If Sunderland pay £25m up front we get our 20+% up front.

But if its a 4 year deal with 50% up front and the rest in equal yearly installments then we get the same.

Apparently Charlton are moving the goalposts and that’s why Jones isn’t going to Cardiff but he definitely wanted to go, trust me.

Add Cardiff to the list of clubs that think they're just too big to turn down.

True, but to an extent that shouldn’t matter. We might be buying players in a similar way, and we’ll know the money is going to come in over time so can budget for that.

if there’s any truth in this, which I’m not inclined to believe there is, good on us for not just rolling over.

Saying “yes, I wouldn’t mind having a go at managing my boyhood club” is one thing, wanting to leave Charlton, who you’ve just got promoted, to do it now is entirely different I reckon.

I'd love to know what exactly they mean by 'this far'. Has it actually been anything more than a couple of tweets from Cardiff journos and their fans running with it?

If there was any kind of proper approach or offer then surely Cawley would've said.

In fact, didn't Cawley say almost exactly the opposite?
