I think that Gavin Carter being promoted to full board member on the 1st working day after promotion can only mean he is going to put his hand in his pocket. Doubt if he's alone.
In terms of absolute wealth I think Carter's pockets are pretty shallow in Championship terms. He will probably be advising that money is spent but I doubt he'll be putting tremendous amounts in personally.
Gavin Carter was adamant on the Charlton TV playoff preview about being sustainable going forward in terms of recruitment. Read this how you will. But for me, it doesn’t sound promising.
Completely understand this take, but I’m hopeful this means we’ll be looking at signing younger players with potential sell-on value, rather than ex-Luton lads who are looking for one last contract.

Berry has been great this season but he won’t be leaving us for a fee when he does go. Players like Ramsay, Coventry, Edwards etc are the opposite. Even Ahadme who’s done nothing for us will be worth some money given his age, especially if we can get him a decent loan move somewhere.

So that's JRS, CBT, James Beadle and, remarkably, Tom Lockyer who have been added to the 'suggestions for signings that I remember' list. We're going at a good clip this year considering it's still only May. Can we get a full on-pitch 11 before the transfer window properly opens?

Sooo, you'd rather be unsustainable, as in something we cannot sustain in the long term, so splash loads of cash, have it run out and go bust?

Let’s throw in Kasey Palmer and Jeremy Sarmiento, as they fit the Bealde category of former academy player with Championship experience who never played for our first team.

Pretty sure Dijksteel has been suggested, too. I can't believe I'm saying this but of those all listed, he actually feels like a sensible-ish option (depending on wage), probably as utility RCB/RWB cover...

Oh no, I've been sucked in to the trap

One potential option for a goalie with Championship experience could be James Beadle. Unlikely to get a game at Brighton, has some experience at Sheff Weds last season and, obviously, a Charlton fan too.
    No thanks.
Current England U21with 60 games in the Championship at 20 years of age and over 100 appearances under his belt at various levels PLUS 25 for England from U15 to U21
Apparenty he's 6'7" so an inch taller than Pope
    Valued at £5m on Transfermarkt
Sheff Weds fans were largely delighted with him and want him back next season.

Definite step up on what we've got

Don't care. Hope he never plays for us.

    What about Semi Ajayi ?

Of all the ex players he appeals to me the most.

An angel came to me in a dream and whispered in my ear .. 'Nathan will sign Chuks on a pay as you play basis' .. was this a dream or a nightmare ??

(seriously I reckon he can still do the job he's had for a while as a last quarter (excuse the U S Football lingo) disruptor?
I'll never believe a dream again .. Bye bye Chuks  and all the very best, great pity that you just could not stay and keep fit

Cannot see any chance Boro would let him go. Strong performer all year, saw him waltz through Burnley defence and score at Turf Moor.

Purrington at LB? Burstow back from Hull up top?

Morgan Fox for LB. A consistent Championship player since he left us

Karlan Grant for the striker role, another Championship stalwart

Firstly it seems Mannion won the debate about who should be our number 1. I feel that he is a level above AMB. So what happens to Ashley because imho we need two keepers of Championship calibre.

Is it a different ask that it was last summer? Do we need a recognised number one  anymore? It feels to me that Wickens would compete with Mannion rather than replace him.

In terms of experienced keepers there will probably be lots of options out there.

Mannion has always been a level above AMB and yet a fair percentage of our fans preferred AMB.

This is going to be a bit of a bizarre comment.
Not a player suggestion but how about this….Nathan Jones to Cardiff and Lee Bowyer to us?
    Worth a punt? 🫤
    No.

Could go with Burstow for those who want to be a bit different.

I'll think he'll try and keep Ramsay.

I'm really not sure about TC. Jones has really been bigging him up for the past 6 months.
Yes he's good, but think he was found wanting a bit in the last 5 or 6 games.
Is Jones touting him about a bit to get more for his war chest?

Surely Reading have some players we can get. Can’t understand how they managed to kept hold of any of them. We could do with someone who scores long shots, seemed to recall they’ve got a couple

If the money was enough I can see TC going and tbh I wouldn’t complain yes I get the fact that he is our own etc but I have big reservations about him stepping up next season (although he progressed greatly in the last year so who knows) but if Ramsey is sold the club are bonkers !! If I had to put money on which of our squad will go to the premiership it would be him the bloke is sheer class with an attitude to match

Agree on Ramsay's potential, but I'd understand if it was a huge offer. Same for TC, the money could be reinvested in the squad, we could sign 2/3 players who might have previously been out of reach.

They've claimed to have turned down £2-3m bids for players, but I wonder how the club value our players? Would they turn down £5m for any? £7m? Not saying anyone is worth that yet, but if we continue to progress under Jones we'll get to that point where some players attract those kind of offers.

Jones is a winner and I don't think will let sentimentality cloud his judgement. Pair that with the interview after the game talking about shaping the squad for a 'completely different environment' and I do expect a few surprises in terms of players being moved on - did it last year with may!

Couldn’t agree more. Also have reservations re TC in Championship. Ramsey is top top quality. I’m not sure how long we’ll be able to hold onto him for.

We do have to remember though that it's only because of TC that we ever properly found our groove. There is nothing more important to our team than the pace and width that the likes of TC and Small force. It might be one thing to sell TC but we would have to replace him with a lightning fast winger/striker with the physical strength to hold the ball, the ability to finish chances and the strength to get kicked and keep going. Those don't commonly exist so we'd probably have to make one ourselves. That's what we did with TC; he put the work in over the summer to build his physique and then spent pre-season and the league matches that followed figuring out the striker role before being allowed to pull wider and working out how to link up better with his wingback, developing his far-post finishing and helping us develop a whole new dimension to our play. Realistically are there people we can afford to sign who can offer all that, and assuming not do we have time in the Championship to take a winger from someone else and try and turn him into the next TC starting from scratch? Easier to do that when you're playing the likes of Burton and Northampton not Leicester and Sheffield United. I think we'd be mad to sell him whatever the fee
