A Campbell, Potts, Lualua. Bell might be more in that category than Berry. Kaminski looks risk free although I’ve never seen him play for us so let’s see .Callumcafc said:I think characterising it as “raiding Luton of their best players” is a bit of an OTT representation of what was said within a wider context, in order to have another disagreement.
Rightly or wrongly, these are the players Jones wants. He’s been wrong before (A. Campbell) but he has enough credit in the bank overall to deserve our trust.
Amari’i Bell specifically is not a bad player and a change of scenery under a familiar coach could be exactly what he needs. He made 44 starts for Luton only two years ago as they got promoted to the Premier League. And Reece Burke: no one is doubting his ability, every comment has been about his injury record. I suspect he would not be signing with us if he didn’t get the thumbs up from Will Abbott who just produced the fittest Charlton squad in many years. You’re right - Jones and Abbott have credit in the bank with signings and fitness so let’s see .1 -
so we shouldn't sign players from teams that have been relegated regardless of their ability?golfaddick said:
Does it not concern you that those players have been through 2 consecutive relegations. Hardly a ringing endorsement, esp as we might be battling against the drop come next April.Gravesend_Addick said:I know a lot of people see us signing players from Luton as just Jones picking up his mates from his old club, but we don't have the budget to sign proven, established Championship players, so we're picking off the best players from a club that need to sell, who have Championship & even Premier league experience as well as League 1 players who have the potential to improve from other league 1 clubs.
I think it's shrewd business, but perhaps I'm in the minority. I guess time will tell.
By that logic, Jones left those players near the top of the Championship, so we should definitely sign them!!0 -
There not hence the fire sale of their squad .. all their money going on the new ground ..BenHaimandBikey said:
Luton are still getting parachute payments. They are fine financially.Gravesend_Addick said:I know a lot of people see us signing players from Luton as just Jones picking up his mates from his old club, but we don't have the budget to sign proven, established Championship players, so we're picking off the best players from a club that need to sell, who have Championship & even Premier league experience as well as League 1 players who have the potential to improve from other league 1 clubs.

Both players signed from Luton were out of contract.
They might turn out to be fine players, I don't know enough about them tbh, but these are about the easiest deals we could have done so far.0 -

Definitely need more signings, I’ve got trust in NJ though. Feel TC definitely deserves his chance in the championship though.Yann897 said:Think we’ve got a base of a good team but still need 4/5 signings and 3 of those need to be starters.Kaminski

All this talk of us needing another 5 players, hearing this morning, Man United, have 5 players who haven’t turned up for training today, just saying…11
-
He'll get a chance, it's a long season. Going in with him as first choice though would be madness imo.CB1 said:

Allan Campbell was such a weird one. I totally expected him to be great. And the mad thing is, Jones had already worked with him. His effort level had clearly just fallen off a cliffCallumcafc said:I think characterising it as “raiding Luton of their best players” is a bit of an OTT representation of what was said within a wider context, in order to have another disagreement.

Looking at that I'd still want RWB,2 quality CMs another Striker at least.13
-
We currently have not enough quality up front. To expect Godden 2 years on from his last Championship appearances, TC who struggled in the play offs against better opposition, Leaburn who is unproven and has fitness issues and Ahadme ....enough said.... to score enough goals to keep us up is little fanciful.15

Anderson is one that I'm really interested to see how he steps up , if he can tidy up his passing he could play a big role. I'm thinking more upgrading on Doc.IanJRO said:
Don’t disagree with this at all but I do have a sneaky feeling that Anderson is going to become a key player for us this season. Would be surprised if his pathway is blocked.MarcusH26 said:Looking at that I'd still want RWB,2 quality CMs another Striker at least.4 -
I agree, I can see him doing well as his pressing and defensive work will stand out in the Championship in a similar way it did for Pratley after we went up in 2019.IanJRO said:

That should be a bonus though, I’d like a new first choice CM so Doc and Anderson really have to fight for that spot.
I don’t see another 10 coming in, I think that’ll be between Berry and Carey.

Agree + Reece Burke on top of that.MarcusH26 said:Looking at that I'd still want RWB,2 quality CMs another Striker at least.
I expect getting all of these relies on us finding new homes for Ahadme, Alex Mitchell & Terry Taylor though.1 -
Anderson isn't a championship starter yet for me. I think he will have a key role to play making an impact off the bench with his energy but he needs to really work on his passing to be starting for me.MarcusH26 said:

Yeah I'm not starting him either for that reason. But great sub to bring on after an hour if the midfield is flaggingRC_CAFC said:

A few more signings are we can start to see a solid champ squad materialise.
Also we are now have visibility so for our younger players who can step up the possibility of a big money move increases.
Overall we could see a few more in, an academy product have a break out season and we can get decent money for and slowly build the club up over a couple of windows.
I want three points on opening day in front of a big crowd to get the belief flowing.
Nathan Jones style.1 -
Not a rumour but it might be worth looking at Tyrhys Dolan. A free agent and can play as a winger with loads of championship experience1

Squad as is will be lacking in goals. Unless we can find a striker and attacking CM who instigates our attacks and regularly chips in I think we’ll struggle. We need a playmaker and goal scorer and at Championship level they are expensive. For me those are the two big ticket items we need to go and get. A RWB to replace Small is also very desirable because using Ramsay there I think is a waste of his best attributes.12

He won’t be able to just get away with bringing his enthusiasm and energy in the championship, the gulf in class between the two leagues is huge and requires more than just energy to become useful at that level.MarcusH26 said:

We absolutely need someone with pace and creativity and at least one more striker.6

Anderson is young and still learning. I think he’ll improve a lot this coming season. He’s athletic, energetic and has a good engine. Having better players around him and playing against better players along with Jones tutorship will improve the weaker side of his game. He’s not the finished article and shouldn’t be judged as such. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t contribute a lot of game time this season.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:

Think having less time on the ball might help Anderson, he often overthinks things which is where his mistakes come from. He will need to improve his first touch though5

Imagine what our comments for our L1 disasterpiece Simon Francis would have been before he went on to be captain of a Premier League clubCallumcafc said:

Over the average 100 minutes of Championship matches I just don't see teams being as profligate against the Cafc defence as League 1 teams were.
I accept we will rarely have more than 40% of possession but we need to have players that can counter attack with pace and accuracy; have doubts we will achieve that ?
I can see we are going for value for money buys and hope this is enough to be above the drop zone.1 -
I thought people would have learnt from last season when everyone was crying about not signing a playmaker, we didn’t need one last season in league 1 and we don’t need one now in the championship. I remember replying to the same cries, that isn’t how Jones teams create chancesShootersHillGuru said:Squad as is will be lacking in goals. We didn’t need one in league 1 and in the championship we will have much less of the ball. If we only have the ball for 30-40% of games then I’d rather a midfielder that’s good without the ball. On our budget we aren’t going to sign a playmaker that offers what we need out of possession, much better to sign someone who is great out of possession and still an upgrade on Docherty with the ball4 -
2 wing backs
1 central midfielder
1 big man striker
This is what we need, with Burke coming in also then that completes our squad. The wing back signings are the most important, we have to replace what Small gave us in pace and directness on the right. Ideally one of the wing backs is versatile enough to play both sides0 -
Hasn’t Jones himself stated he’s looking for some flair in midfield ?NabySarr said:
