Im glad you conveniently skirted over the fact that I pointed out that a Championship club tried to sign him (Sheffield Wednesday) right before he joined us.4 -

Yes... They pulled out, but dont think the Manager was overly happy about it.
Collapse of Sheffield Wednesday's Conor Coventry transfer examined - Danny Röhl's stance
It is believed there are a number of factors at play in the collapse of mutual interest between Wednesday and the Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder, including a preference on the player's part to stay in London, promises of more frequent playing time by Charlton and the League One club's willingness to offer West Ham a higher sell-on percentage as part of their transfer package.
So Wednesday WANTED him... We just offered him a better deal

Conor Coventry wanted to play for a bigger club, can't argue with that.12

Type of signing that would fit in with the new Under 21/23 scouting role looking for hidden gems.0 -
Now they've got their new ownership I don't think they'll be losing their players on the cheap anymore. We should've gone after him and Smith (again) in the January window when the other nutcase was still asleep at the wheel!2

Andy Woodman's goalkeeper son Freddie has been released by Preston (as has Paddy Bauer)
A player I really like (might have suffered nasty injury though), Murray Wallace has been released by Millwall .. Woodman is 28, Wallace32, the later as a versatile, VERY good defender would be a perfect squad member covering central and left sided defence
In fact there is a host of 30 somethings now 'on the market' after being released from Champ clubs.
I don't go for the 'too old' theory. Look at Godden and Berry and the integral parts they played for us this season (with 1 game to go)0 - Sponsored links:

Woodman by all accounts has had a shaky season according to Preston fans1

Alan McLeary joined us after over 300 games for Millwall.3

JRS told.he can leave Palace.
Doubt he would have the physicality and relentlessness of a Jones player even if he was in our price range though.2 -

If we went up, I'd love him back. Quality player.9 -
JRS feels like a Southampton signing. Don't have many options wide , think Palace will want a rather significant fee.3
-
We would definitely be priced out of a move for him even if we were interested in him which we probably won’t be because of his profile.1
-
I can see him joining any of the top 10 of the championship/one of the relegated Prem teams1

Mannion - No.
Maynard Brewer - No.
Ramsey - Yes
Asiimwe - No.
Edwards - Yes
Jones - Yes
A Mitchell - Unsure
Z Mitchell - Unsure
Gillesphey - Yes
Small - Yes
Campbell - Yes
Coventry - Yes
Anderson - Not quite
Berry - Yes
Docherty - Unsure
Taylor - Not quite
Ahadme - Hell No.
Leaburn - If he can get and stay fit
Dixon - not quite.
Godden - YES
Hylton - No.
Kanu - Not quite (but Karlan shone at this level after looking well out of place in his first few seasons)
Obviously we have loanees and retirees and other out of contract players, but none of the rest really felt worth a mention.

But let’s get to the Championship first.
Coventry can step up without a doubt.
Our whole back line can step up too although Gilesphy would probably need to drop to the bench.0 -
He may have struggled in his season in the Championship but it was his first. Still time to learn and become more consistent.4

'Lightweight' is becoming the go-to criticism of players by people who don't actually know what it is about the player they don't like. It's effective because it covers every possible assumed failing without actually having to explain it or think about it. Gilbert? Lightweight. Berry? Lightweight. Coventry? Lightweight. This season I'm sure I've seen Gillesphey, Small, Campbell, Godden and Docherty referred to that way as well. It's absolutely meaningless.9

Zero chance of us getting JRS back even in the Championship, Palace will want £5-10m for him and no chance of us spending that on a player.4
-
For context a 27 year old Sam Smith went to Wrexham for £2m, only ever played below the Championship.
JRS is 22, ripped up league one as a teenager and did okay in the Championship in his first season there, signifacantly higher ceiling than Smith and already a better player despite being 5 years younger.
Easily be £5m+ for JRS.8
