A point out of a possible 6 is not a great start, I think that is indisputable ;)
    But it is early days....
I wish I could see someone out there who looks like they can take a game by the scruff of its neck and boss it a bit, and we look rather lightweight upfront and we are getting caught ball watching or losing men at the back, and the midfield just does not seem to impose enough.

OH GOD IT'S ALL GOING TITS UP ALREADY AAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!

That's better. I'm ok again. It would be great to come out all guns blazing, but it is going to take some time. It's a new side and I still can't recognise half of them. Think we will have to show patience and let them work at it, because that is what they are going to have to do.
At least it already feels like a proper league, where it is all up for grabs, have to say I am really enjoying that feeling again.
    Roll on Saturday. :)
  • [cite]Posted By: AFKA Bartram[/cite]everyone is entitled to their opinion, and when you have played two average sides and collected one point, people will see things a different way.

I wasn't at the Scunthorpe game so can't comment. What i saw yesterday may of been clouded by it being such a gloomy journey (though good company !), but to be turned over in the flesh by a very basic, raw outfit, was very, very demoralising.

I'm not being negative, or moaning, but i do remain a little concerned. I saw little yesterday that to me, was just short of clicking and then it will all come together. I think we will improve no doubt, but i don't yet see the potential of a side that goes 8-9 games without dropping a point, like our last Championship side did, and what will be necessary to get in the top two. And something that has dogged us for such a long time, i still don't see a real leader amongst the ranks.

And i'm pretty sure deep down Pardew must have similar concerns if the reason we went from a winning position to losing a game, was because, as stated, a right back got injured.

I have to say I agree. I was going out to dinner so only watched the game up until Andy Reid scored. Before that I saw Stoke huff and puff, in a fairly average Championship type of way. They beltd the ball up, had a couple of stoppers in midfield and although they had a zillion corners they only had that one header and even then Yasin was on the line. Ambroses chance in the first half was as good as Delaps. When we scode I turned the TV off and went to dinner.

Half an hour later I had a call, what did you think of that I was asked. What I said, expecting a 2-0 maybe. We lost 2-1. I really thought it was one of them mate moments when they try to wind you up. And Yasin xcould have broken his ankle!!!!

I have to say after a lovely dinner, my journey back was one of deep thought. As Dan says two fairly average teams and 1 point. Our right back out for the season, no bite in Midfield ... McLeod looks lost (Freddy Eastwood has scored a couple), and Sheffield Wed are bottom so will be a complete defensiv outfit on Saturday. Pardew seems too chirpy to me.

That's still two away league victories since October 2005 ... and you wonder why we don't take supporters away from home.
  • [cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]Pavo said it for me

    And for me to.
  • Theres always people pointing out the problems/moaning followed by people being positive or moaning about moaners...

    :)
  • Please dont take moaning out of our beautiful game

When my charlton chums meet we spend the first 2 pints seriously grumbling (normally Marcus Bent) by the time the 3rds downed cup success is a real possibility and by the time the 4th is in its planning a Euro tour and from the 5th onwards Marcus Bent is a superb athlete who just needs some finessing or was that finishing

Anyway please keep moaning about CAFC its been part of my life for nearly 40 years and I will miss it.
  • Why cant we moan, we played shit. It wasnt good enough! Im not going to smile and be cheery if we lose am I. Some people on here find it hard to hear others opinions. Tough Shit, Im going to moan when we lose!
  • cheers, just getting some whiskey now.

    ha, so true....
  • Sunderland lost 12 games last season and drew 7, we've got something to play with guys.

    Jeez.
  • Allthough we lost the game there are possitives the stats say we had 65% possesion which is a good sign, but I think maybe the substitutions were a little odd. Why was Ambrose allowed to stay on the pitch when towards the end of the 1st half he had gone missing almost completly? Surely take him off put JT on and push McLeod up front?????

  • Yes 65% possesion but most of it spent passing right to left left to right across the pitch not going forward, and when we did try to go forward we lost the ball all to often. Are fornt pairing do not seem to know where the goal is and are about as slow as you can get, compare that to Sidibie who often went through are defence like a hot knife through butter, and with better finishing Stoke should have been 3-0 up by the end of the first half. I have not been impressed by Pards signing so far.
I went to the Aldershot pre-season game and they bossed the game and we had very much the same team as at the Stoke game, these players just can not seem to improve, I think this could be a long depressing season.

Not really true that statement though is it? At Aldershot we played Holland & Faye in central midfield, Iwelumo & Walker as our strikers, Christensen & Sinclair as our wingers, Powell at left back & Elliott in goal. That's at least 8 different faces to the starting line up on Saturday!!
  • Reid, Thomas, and Ambrose came on as subs in the second half.
  • why is everyone moaning things have certainly improved for our club since curbs left(he was dragging us down and it was really boring)... we're heading in the right direction, the football's great we just need a bit of time to get used to each other ... i think we'll walk this league macarthy and bouggy will get used to each other and prove to be rock solid partnership at the back, mark my words two great signings by pards.....
WE ARE GOING UP SAY WE ARE GOING UP
