Charlton Athletic vs Wigan AthleticSaturday 15th March 2025 - 3pm Kick-OffReferee: Graham ScottIntroductionYou're given a time machine after the first game of the season, and you get to teleport to the present day, seeing Charlton in fourth spot, just a handful of points behind automatic promotion... I wonder what the reaction from many would be... Disbelief... Expectations Met perhaps... Maybe even a sense of foreboding, that our current form cant possibly be kept up and we'll slip away, leaving us in perennial disappointment. Either way strap yourselves in, its going to be a roller-coaster of a finish.
The OppositionName: Wigan Athletic (15th) - Manager: Ryan LoweGround: DW StadiumPrevious League Result: Wigan 1-0 CambridgeArriving at the Valley this coming Saturday are the side where it all began, way back in August, 35-games ago... The Addicks travelled to Wigan that Saturday afternoon, not sure what to expect other than an horrible looking kick-off time of 5:30pm, as Sky's new television deal kicked into gear - The result was very much reminiscent of not just our season so far, but our away form at that... Nothing inspiring... But we clawed and we fought to ensure that the three points returned to South East London, via. unlikely goal scorer: Lloyd Jones, who has gone on to be a pivotal part of this campaign to date.
Wigan themselves looked an impressive side that Saturday afternoon / evening, and maybe deserved better... Unfortunately in Football, you deserve nothing more than the score at the Full-Time whistle and has spent their own 2024/25 campaign drifting around the lower reaches of mid-table... Their current form (just two wins since the end of January), resulted in the departure of Shaun Maloney, with Ryan Lowe incoming on Wednesday. The latter wont be in charge for this coming fixture, instead it'll be Glenn Whelan who'll remain in charge, but we should still be fearful of the "New Manager Bounce", especially as this'll be a Wigan side looking to impress as their new Manager watches on.
Away form has been mixed, with five wins, six draws and six defeats... Meaning this game wont be easy. However the sale of promising youngster: Thelo Aasgaard will be a key absence for the away side, and will no doubt hurt a side looking for just their second victory on the road in 2025.
Charlton Team NewsThe dreaded outcome is almost at an end; Conor Coventry has been walking a tight rope for the last few games as he looks to avoid a two match ban, and is something that will be avoided, should he manage to go without picking up a booking in this final game of that particular run - Its no doubt been a cloud hanging over his performance, although has been a credit to the Irishman that his efforts have barely waivered.
Tuesday night saw the Addicks dig in to record another tight win on the road. Its evidence that our home form remains crucial to our end of season ambitions, so to start being forced to rely on away results (should our home form suffer), well that's not ideal, and is perhaps greater reason for needing three points tomorrow afternoon - However the squad are being pushed to the limits, not just on the pitch with Lloyd Jones and Josh Edwards both giving their all. But off the pitch as well, with the squad now banned from such luxuries as Bluewater and Costa Coffee... After all... Its for the greater good.
Oh... and Greg Docherty should be back available tomorrow, following the birth of his Son...

I think we can pull a win here, the home game streak will roll on a bit yet I think.
I was looking forward to a proper day out but seem to be developing a stinker of a cold. Typical....
looking at their defensive record and our current relative dry spell on the goals front along with our fantastic defence unfortunately the wise money would be on a 0-0 result
however sod that I’m going all positive and predicting another 1-0 and 3 points
Close the gap on 2nd/3rd, job done.
Championship, here we come.
Fearing the first of the 2(?) banana skins we can possibly afford to just about still get autos.
1-2 to Wigan.
Not forgetting the obligatory high five when we score 😎
But I wouldnt be surprised if he's rested with a spot on the bench this Saturday, given its the second time in a few months he's gone off with cramp.
Whilst a barnstorming Charlton free scoring their way into the autos is unlikely to ever happen, i suspect a gritty bum clenching 1 nil will have to do.
