Thought Ambrose's performance pretty much summed up his time with us - looked threatening when he got into the penalty box and as likely as anyone to get a goal, but for much of the 90 minutes the game seemed to pass him by.
Not sure we can afford to start with him, Reid, Sam, McLeod etc in the same side - especially away from home - as it leaves Semedo as the only midfielder who's really going to be putting his foot in, and from what I've seen that's probably not the strongest part of his game either.
That then puts extra pressure on the back four, and at the moment we look brittle there as well.
Pardew knows what it takes to get promotion out of this league, so let's see how the results go over the next six or seven games before we start pressing the panic buttons.
I think this thread indicates quite nicely the over-expectation before the start of the season.
Personally I found the match went pretty much as expected. We played the better football and by that measure should have won. Reid for me was the best player on the pitch. McLeod & Iwemumo look like what they are: a Championship & League 2 striker (though which way round I'm not sure). We know what we've got in Ambrose so don't understand the complaints there. The main problem was that our replacement defender was crap. He was at fault for at least one of the goals. Having said that I wasn't too impressed with Motorkill to be honest.
I expected a draw from this game and with a half decent performance from McCarthy that's what we would have got. He's got to improve or go. But we have to give these players time. We're playing with a bunch of guys who hardly know each other. To re-iterate lots of people expect too much too soon.

I heard Roy Keane talking about learning to lose and taking strength from that. We have got ZZ, the other frenchie, Varney to come in plus a chance of one or two more signings before the end of the window. We need to be there or there abouts at Xmas and then spend some more cash in January to give the team further impetous. We've learned one thing today. McCarthy is one serious donkey.

Absolutely right. The only reason the be really pissed off is McCarthy. He looked awful.
Yeh I agree with bing, it is far to early to be getting negitive. I reckon Zheng,Varney,Raccoon,Gibbs all need to been seen first. Also some players will take time to settle.

You can forget Gibbs. He doesn't exist.
Zheng for me will be a class above in this league (like Reid)
Varney I expected to be the best of our new buys.
Racon might be a good squad player.
Overall I think we can say that we our lacking one of our best midfielders and our best forward at the moment. I'm not worried apart from the defense. IMO we need not one, but two new CBs. At the moment we've only got the two who started today plus Semedo who are probably good enough. McCarthy could improve but I doubt anyone could improve THAT much!
