MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Peterborough Utd : Tuesday 11th February 2025 : KO 19:45

Tonight we welcome Peterborough United to The valley, in a very nice 6th position in the league, and looking to hit the 50 mark by 10.00 pm...
Peterborough sit in 20th spot, just four points outside the drop zone, and will no doubt be fighting for their lives tonight, fruitless exercise I am sure, but they have to give it a go, so we should be prepared for a battle anyway...

Nathan Jones has a fully fit squad to choose from again, whilst Posh will be without Jadel Katongo, Rio Adebisi, and their leading league scorer this season Kwame Poku...

We've clashed on 29 previous occasions, winning nine, Posh 12 and the remaining eight encounters resulting in draws, Posh ran out 2-1 victors at The Valley when the sides last met in January 2024...

This is a real opportunity to put some daylight between us and what we can now call "The chasing pack", and we do really need to take advantage of it now, so COYR let's nail this one tonight...

Here we go...

Team news...

Conor Coventry will make his 50th appearance for the Addicks this evening as Nathan Jones names an unchanged lineup from the side that beat Stevenage 2-0 at The Valley on Saturday.

Karoy Anderson returns to the bench after missing Saturday's game due to personal reasons.

The Addicks again line-up with Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Coventry, Luke Berry and skipper Greg Docherty making up a midfield trio behind Matty Godden, who has scored in each of the Addicks last three games, and Tyreece Campbell.

Anderson is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Alex Mitchell, Alex Gilbert, Miles Leaburn, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, A.Mitchell, Anderson, Gilbert, Leaburn, Aneke, Kanu

Forgot about Odoh, and took me a while to spot who you meant
  • Bold to go with the same XI from Saturday given Blues on Saturday! Must be confident about fitness and the work Dr.Will has done/is doing. COYR

Got Mitchell as cover, and we need to be more attacking from the bench, which we def are tonight...

Dont need him tonight, given that Anderson is back after his absence.

So why did we bring him in then ?
You do realise we can only have seven subs right? - Who would you drop to accommodate him?

Especially as Edwards can slot in at LCB as well
  • I guess defence is something you can't just slot into as easily as if your in the wrong place it can cost a goal

To be part of the team, which he will be...🤷‍♂️
  • We don't need 2 CBs on the bench, so I've no problems with that change
  • I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure...🙄

Let's hope that "confident" is the right word. After reading about Huddersfield's current injury crisis, it struck me that NJ needs to be pretty damn grateful for the work that's gone on in the medical/fitness dept.,  resulting in a virtually full strength squad to choose from in the middle of Feb. But so long as he is listening to the medical advice, it's otherwise difficult to criticise an unchanged XI after the performance on Saturday.

  • Golfie: We never have enough strikers or attacking options on the bench.

Also Golfie: Why we not using 2CBs in our 7 options of subs.
Well he's never wrong ya know
  • I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure...🙄
Is it 'Give an old joke a home' week?
  • O.Wallin has recovered well for them considering the after effects of Saturday night for him

    😉
  • You are proper hiding in the corner @Briston_Addick !
  • No keeper has been allocated the number 1 shirt and those players with numbers 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 10 have become fixtures in the starting line up with 4 & 11 currently regulars on the bench. So, if we believe that NJ now has the team he always believed would take us forward (and therefore input so far as numbers allocated are concerned) then there is one obvious exception to that.
  • Empty ground on a cold Tuesday is such a buzzkill. Had a shit two days of work and can see where this one’s going :-(

    happy AFKA…
