Charlton Athletic vs StevenageSaturday 8th February 2025 - 12:30pm Kick-OffReferee: Josh SmithCharlton's latest attempts to win four games on the trot suffered another setback on the Lancashire coast last weekend - The Addicks visited Blackpool, looking to achieve the lofty stat of four wins back to back for the first time since 2020/21, and for a good period in the second half, it looked as though we'd continue our march, stepping into the top six for the first time since 21st September. Sadly it wasn't to be, with Blackpool salvaging a 2-2 draw. Lets hope its just one of very few setbacks!!
The OppositionName: Stevenage (11th) - Manager: Alex RevellGround: Broadhall WayPrevious League Result: Stevenage 4-1 ExeterOne aspect that came from our draw with Blackpool was the fact that the fight for the lower echelons of the Play-Offs is becoming extremely tight, four teams currently sit on 44-pts, whilst a whole host of sides continue to chase down sixth spot from slightly further afield, with anyone down to 15th still in with a realistic shot... Frustratingly; Stevenage are another of those sides, who will be looking to send the fight for the top six, down to the wire!!
For Alex Revell its been an impressive job, replacing Steve Evans is always going to be a tough ask, and is one that Revell seems to be achieving, Stevenage of course were in Play-Off contention this time last season, but inevitably fell away, where they'd go on to finish in 9th - Now they're back, looking to correct the downturn of form, at the worst possible time in any league campaign.
They come into this clash with their own run of form, having won their last three matches, with two of those on the road against fellow Play-Off chasers in Barnsley and Wrexham respectfully, they have however just won other win on the road this season - Last campaign their issue was goals, they had the fourth best Defence in the League, but the second least amount of goals in the top twelve was their ultimate issue. This doesnt look as though its been fixed, and with just 27-goals scored, and 25-goals conceded... Well it looks like it'll be a case of taking opportunities when they come, this Saturday lunchtime!!
Charlton Team NewsMonday at 11pm was a momentous occasion in the Football calendar, with the distraction of the Transfer Window slamming shut for another six months - In Charlton's case it was a light breeze that closed the window, with a number of individuals seen as surplus to requirements and moved on. We did have a couple of incomings, yet many fans now question if we've left ourselves a little bit too light, especially with our injury record in recent years.
Those incomings are of course Alex Gilbey (in disguise) from Middlesbrough, and Tom McIntyre from Portsmouth - Both of whom will be ideally be helpful additions to the strengthening of the squad, and could well end up being our Neil Heaney or Josh Parker from successful seasons in the past... You'd expect to see both on the bench, however McIntyre as a Left footed Centre-Back could start ahead of Macauley Gillesphey, following his error that led to the Blackpool equaliser last Saturday... Elsewhere and you'd expect the majority of the squad to remain as is...

2 1 Charlton in a tough fought game.
As said, Stevenage have run into form, so, as ever, this will not be easy.
We win another tight, tough game
4 all draw it is then
A win for Charlton but it's league one and proper zzzzz
4 nil to Charlton
Hoping for a clean sheet win but could see a 1-1 draw or worse given their recent form and our club’s habit of kicking everyone in the gonads when we might’ve turned a corner.
W6 D3 L1 is 21 points from last 10 matches so why take the chance to put in McIntyre for Gillesphey when despite Gill's error he had been part of the last 10 games.
Despite Aneke suddenly being fit for a few games I would definitely go with Kanu on the bench as Chuks has looked so sluggish and has lost the ability to move at more than a snails pace.
Charlton have conceded only 10 goals at home this season - the second fewest behind only Birmingham. Also only scored 17 at home, the fewest in the top half.
- Charlton Athletic have won just one of their five league games against Stevenage (D2 L2), both scoring and conceding three goals during that time.
- Stevenage are unbeaten across their last six away league games against sides from London (W2 D4), keeping four clean sheets in that run.
- Charlton have lost just one of their last 11 league games (W6 D4), netting 2+ goals in seven matches across that time.
- Stevenage have won each of their last three league games and could win four in succession for the first time since November 2023.
https://www.efl.com/news/2025/february/07/sky-bet-league-one--pre-match-stat-pack-/I'm almost with Ronnie on this one, but feel we might even lose. It'll be a real test, much more of a test that many will be expecting. They've looked very good in their last three games.
0-6 to the mighty Stevenage!
More intetested in the wimmins team anyway.
