  • Terrible reviews from his former clubs but I’ll trust Jones to get the defensive signings right at least. Hopefully unlike Potts he can actually play so we can drop Gillesphey.
  • Not inspired by Andy Scott's review ... has he signed him on the back of a few character reports?  Has he even seen him play?

Technical Director Andy Scott added: "We’re really happy we’re bringing Tom in. He’s a real competitor. We’ve had some very impressive reports on him as a character - he really wants to come in and prove his worth. He’s left-footed, a good footballer, brave - he’s played at full-back, centre-back and as a holding midfielder. It’s a really good opportunity for him and for us."
Not inspired by Andy Scott full stop, whenever he comes out with a statement it just reiterates what Jones has already said. Do we just wheel him out to read from a script that charlie boy has jotted down from Jones statement. There you go andy just read that & earn your 5 grand a week.
  • Looks like cover. Doubt he'll start more than 3 games unless there's injuries. Very average player.
  • Another Scot!

  • Welcome Tom
  • This from my daughter’s boyfriend who is a Reading fan:

“Just saw you signed Tom Mcintyre from Portsmouth. He's Reading born and bred. Bang average player for us in the championship, but League 1 might prove to be his level.”

  • Highlights reel on club twitter looks good. Benefit of doubt given. Hope he does well
They rarely look bad to be fair

Given Reading were relegated, does that mean the rest of the team were below average ?
  • My brother has played with him back in the day with Reading academy. Says he's toilet.

But good luck to him and hopefully he's developed a fair bit since then.

Can't we just give these guys a chance and see how they go?
It’s okay mate, I don’t think anyone’s planning to assassinate him.

Is your brother still a professional footballer ?
  • Wish him all the best with us and hope he provides options and cover for gilleshpey who has improved substantially in recent games, points losing errors aside.

If REG was never going to start in that spot, i think it's good to get balance of cover in case of injury or loss of form and hope he's sufficiently decent for a perm at the end of the season.

Have I got this right then? He fractured his skull on his debut for Reading and broke his ankle on debut for Portsmouth? This has made me rather nervous for him! Welcome to the Addicks, Tom.
I like to think of it as he gets stuck in, I remember Cullen getting his teeth knocked out on his debut for West Ham

Dont worry Tom, you've got a Goalkeeper behind you who loves getting concussion!!

Am sure he wont wipe you out at any point

He'd have to try to claim a cross for that to happen
  • At the end of the day, we pretty much did what Jones said we were going to do. The squad needed trimming and he probably looks at loans with a view to the summer, providing cover now.
  • When Dan Potts was signed, NJ was banging on about the need to have left - footed competition at LCB with Gillesphey.

Potts has gone and McIntyre signed in his place.

  • So when it comes to player reviews, we take them as a word of gospel when they come from Portsmouth fans but not to be believed when they come from Middlesbrough fans. Got it

Haha..... It's the CL mob mentality.

It has to fit the Miserabiist agenda 😆

Sounds like sour grapes to me from your brother and one that is repeated up and down the country from the myriad of players who are released from academies about players who are given contracts.

Having seen it close up it's not an exact science with players in their teens and many succeed under different coaches somewhere else.

A professional coach I know who have worked with Premier players was surprised that Deji Elerewe who he worked with since he was an under 9 didn't make it at CAFC and who helped to get him to the valley at about 13.

Gillesphey has had some good play with defensive header and the long passes at times( lots of poor punts !)but the mandatory mistakes he can't get out of his game so let's see if Tom McIntyre is an improvement.

All CAFC fans will hope so 🤞🏻
  • What a debut!
Sounds like our type of player.
