To be fair Lloyd Jones has been our saviour all season. Had a shocker today, but he’s still a very, very good player at this level.southamptonaddick said:A week is a long time in football
Last week Lloyd Jones is our saviour
The next week Lloyd Jones is the Devil 🤪15

In fact there is one positive thing, that being the game has finisbed.2

We are so little of a threat going forward we must be the easiest team in the league to scout.1
-
We got caught out. Preston allowed us time and space to play some good football. Rotherham gave us nothing from the first minute.
 Jones had a nightmare game.
Why are our passes always behind the man?
We are constantly having to check back, break our stride, to receive the ball, losing forward momentum.4

I wish I’d spent the weekend in a bloody re-education camp rather than watch that stream!TellyTubby said:I'm so glad that I missed watching the stream today to spend the weekend in a holiday camp.
I thought I had made an error as a lay on my skanky bed in a Hi de hi sized room with one socket having to use our own sleeping bags because the beds are so skanky. Notice we don't even get a double bed!
After a hard night of partying last night, we literally had a seagull knocking on our door this morning for breakfast. Twice.
Resting up before the next round of tribute bands and copious amounts of alcohol, we're so pleased that like Donald Trump, we dodged the bullet. I feel for all the poor sods who made the trip.4

We were already four down when I tuned in and the game was already dead so I won’t comment on what I saw after that because it’s probably a bit meaningless. While a result and performance like today is a bit of a reality check for anyone who thought our Christmas form meant we looked likely to get back into the playoffs, It doesn’t instantly cancel out the progress we made during that period. This is League One, most teams are inconsistent, and you get results and performances like that pop up from time to time. Even within that (and, having just seen the goals back, the defending was dreadful for some of them - the 4th was peak Appleton Charlton), it might have been a closer result - TC should’ve had a pen, Godden had that chance from 3 yards out, and we still scored 2. That’s probably still more chances than we were creating in most matches from September through November. If we’d defended like we normally do we would probably have got something from the game. However, fact is we didn’t defend like we normally do and now, because our revival is only a few weeks old and fragile, the season stands at a bit of a crossroads. Again. I hope no one overreacts and starts making a heap of changes and disrupting the bit of fluency and understanding that we built over Christmas. We can’t let this one result kill all that momentum. If we turn up at Bolton and play like that, then it will look far more worrying and it’s not difficult to envision this falling apart quickly if we were to do that. We’ve been here before! For now, though, it’s just a one off because, to be fair, even when we were shite before Christmas, we never really got turned over like that. Let’s hope it stays a one off. A reaction is needed on Tuesday. 4

Terrible week in the Prediction League, in the Beat the Bookies League, and now in the actual League.
The only consolation was that other results went our way, and we're still 'only' seven points from the team in 6th with a couple of games in hand.
We really need some dynamism, but not sure we'll be signing anyone who can provide it.3

Still let’s look at the positives, just the 4 hours back2

The back 3 had a mare, granted ....... but the midfield was virtually non-existent.ForestHillAddick said:So back to scoring goals again but also back to giving them away at the same time.
Hopefully this game is a blip for the back 3/5 rather than a fundamental inability to be solid at the back whilst offering anything going forwards.
One thing is for sure and that is that we're currently not a championship quality team and need quality reinforcements in order to be serious about getting out of the league.
Completely over-run in midfield, no one held the ball, no one tracked back.
At least after Karoy came on there was finally a bit of endeavour and fight for the ball.

Disappointing. Haven’t been able to watch for one reason or another for a few games so tuned in with the expectation that we’d turned a corner. Looked just as poor as I’d remembered. Our reliable stalwarts unfortunately had their turns to don the clown hats today. Actually lucky we didn’t take a proper pasting but at least we kept going and it was less embarrassing than it could have been. I’m afraid my views on the manager have not changed and I fear that the season will peter out unless there is an unlikely upturn in form and injection of resources in the next couple of weeks. The last month gives us something to hold on to I suppose but we need to get back into that groove pronto.2

Christ, I hope no one watched that hoping it would cheer then up? 😫
 Utter shite.

Can Godden play up front with Leaburn, TC wide left and Edwards replace Gillesphie1
-
At half time there was a brief interview with Mark Fish in which the goals from our famous win at Arsenal, Lisbie's hat trick against Liverpool and a win over Chelsea were shown.
And after that, we go back to watching a completely inept performance at all levels against a mid-table Rotherham team.
The last 20 years really haven't been kind to us. And after a performance like that it is hard to see things changing soon.

Thought we'd turned the corner after that mini run at Xmas, 12th midtable mediocrity next few months will be a slog0

Surprised I’m not really pissed off by that result but I’m not. One thing you have to make sure when you play an Evan’s team is to ensure the team are up for a battle ! We wasn’t and we got caught cold, out fought the entire game ! I’m hopeful today was a glitch and should be a kick up the arse for our players ! Absolutely nobody comes out of today with any credit.PS
please please please sign a GK because we don’t have one0

Jones had a shocker but Mitchell was unbelievably worse, his crossfield ball to the opposing player, for the second time in five days summed him up, REG must be thinking, how is he in front of me in the pecking order.8

Completely outclassed and out-fought from start to finish. We were a total shambles at the back and a very poor second best all over the park.
The 4-2 scoreline flattered us and there was a worrying lack of fight and desire. Let's hope it's a one-off.6

It really is depressing - one step forward and three steps back.
We were terrible today and it looks as if the squad is too lightweight.
 1) Owners are not good enough [no real plan, invisible and relying on a bunch of planks to run the club]
 2) Manager has an unjustified superiority complex [he isn’t as good as he thinks]
 3) Squad ain’t good enough [see above]
We are stuck in this mediocre state until some major positive change occurs, so the results like this will continue. The undefeated run was flattering.
In the summer, the owners need to get rid of Methven and his useless band of half wits and start a major rebuild. Not sure that NJ is the answer or if he really wants to be our manager, so he may well go.
Real problem is at the top of the club and that is what needs to change.

It was pretty bad but .... are they all a bit knackered? We aren't usually so "last to the ball". Even TC looked like he was having trouble keeping up, when usually he's out-sprinting pretty much anyone. If thats the reason , fair do's, but its a bit worrying when they have to play again Tuesday. Push on? Or do we look for many changes Tuesday just to give the current squad a bit of a breather, and accept a defeat again is a real posibility?4
-
Think Jonesy summed it up perfectly for me - "Look, we didn't get the basics right. We didn't head the ball......"
 Goodnight1

As others have said, just hope its a one off and/or a hangover from Tuesday night. Just didnt see that performance coming, right through the team, aside from Leaburn and Goddens goals, no one did anything, just a very bad day at the office. Onto Tuesday, a decent showing is owed to the travelling fans after that tripe today.3
-
A bad day at the office should apply and a good kick up the bottom.I wonder how Newcastle fans feel after they’ve been on a good run of form and then get played off St James Park by Bournemouth?
Lets keep this performance into perspective and accept that these things happen.I think we will give Bolton a walloping!COYR17

To many players off their game today. The back 5 were all very poor, Jones was a shadow of himself. The midfield 3 were out thought and out fought, and up front we were poor, despite scoring 2 goals!
I'm hoping this is just a 'blip' due to the amount of football we've played recently, and not due to players looking to move elsewhere!
The squad defo needs refreshing with 1 or 2 quality additions. Leaving it until the summer, I think, would be madness.
Our owners need to 'step up' this month and buy a couple of players that will improve us from the off.
We can rectify this result on Tuesday, but it's going to take the squad having a break and mentally getting prepared for it. I'm struggling to think how long ago it was, where our defence was so easily opened up?
Let's hope that whatever it is that needs rectifying, NJ, can do it.........FAST!!3
