POST-MATCH THREAD: Rotherham Utd v Charlton Athletic: Saturday 18th January 2025: KO 15:00

Charlton travelled up to the stadium that never sleeps in hopes of continuing their decent run of form in the league against a Rotherham side that is bang in form. And Rotherham came out of the gates quick, going two nil up in no time. A shellshocked Charlton couldn’t fight their way back into it until right before halftime, after a formation change that matched Rotherham’s diamond in midfield that saw a bit of improvement. A bit of clever play saw Charlton pull one back through Miles Leaburn, only to concede in added time to go into the half 3-1.
The second one half wasn’t much better. Nathan Jones made changes early and often but Charlton were too far adrift and Rotherham reminded us just how far off we are. Matt Godden pulled on back before the end to make the final result a little more respectable.
Charlton simply weren’t competitive for most of the match. Are we likely to see adequate reinforcements in the transfer window?
Rotherham 4 Charlton 2
Over to you.

So we have a Championship team do we Mr Jones.
Do not think so.12 -
I don't even feel any anger with this result as I accepted months ago that we wouldn't be going up.
Hopefully our American Billionaires will soon realise that Charlie has spun them a load of bollox and he can't get us promoted on the cheap.
Overhaul the entire SMT and give us some confidence that next season will be better.48 -
Lloyd Jones had a poor game by his standards - back to the drawing board all round i think7

Just as they start to give you some hope, Charlton always bring you back down to earth with a bump.34

Its sad how much results and charlton just dont seem to bother me much anymore and i love this club
feel like i/we have been abused for so long its just taken the spark away being a charlton supporter
i just dont get very high with wins or low with losses

I going to be positive and say this was just a blip (and no, I'm not NJ...)
Hope I'm right.

What a load of ole bollox that was…😢0

Bored of getting outfought by Steve Evans teams, same thing happens every time . Hopefully the owners can get the chequebook out and at least sign a creative midfielder and a CB so the rest of the season isn't a complete dirge.8

We need a reaction on Tuesday. Not the end of the world. The difference was they beat us physically across the pitch. So a 40/60 ball against them was their ball.3

Two good finishes from our forwards, otherwise disjointed up front, absent in midfield and calamitous at the back. It's been said before, but I'll say it again, we really shouldn't have got rid of these two:

I thought we'd turned a corner.
Turns out it led to a dead end!11 -
A week is a long time in football
Last week Lloyd Jones is our saviour
The next week Lloyd Jones is the Devil 🤪0 -
We’re trapped in a never ending cycle. Fair play to the optimists. I don’t know how you do it.11

Scary how reliant we are on one or two players being in the team/putting in good performances to stop everything falling apart.0

So back to scoring goals again but also back to giving them away at the same time.
Hopefully this game is a blip for the back 3/5 rather than a fundamental inability to be solid at the back whilst offering anything going forwards.
One thing is for sure and that is that we're currently not a championship quality team and need quality reinforcements in order to be serious about getting out of the league.3 -

Just saw Bolton needed an injury time OG to get a point against Cambridge. Could be one for the die hards on both sides on Tuesday night.0 -
Poor game. Glad my kids didn't want to go as I was all for it. Out thought, out muscled, out competed.
Jones had his worst game of the season by a distance, Mitchell looked all over the shop and Gillesphy looked like he simply couldn't be bothered in that seconds half.
Docherty, Berry and Coventry is not the midfield to pick v a Steve Evans side; they are simply not strong and competitive enough.
A disappointing afternoon made worse by the fact I pressed purchase on the stream just as the announcement of their first goal was made and started watching as the second went in.
Still, NJ is happy with the squad and as a Championship level group of players in L1 he better get play offs or it would be an incredible failure of management.0 -
We should apologize to their fans for not giving them a game.0

I'm so glad that I missed watching the stream today to spend the weekend in a holiday camp.
I thought I had made an error as a lay on my skanky bed in a Hi de hi sized room with one socket having to use our own sleeping bags because the beds are so skanky. Notice we don't even get a double bed!
After a hard night of partying last night, we literally had a seagull knocking on our door this morning for breakfast. Twice.
Resting up before the next round of tribute bands and copious amounts of alcohol, we're so pleased that like Donald Trump, we dodged the bullet. I feel for all the poor sods who made the trip.4
