Hi everyone,
I am new to the group and wondered if I could ask a rather unusual personal favour of other members.
My family have all been Charlton supporters for many years, as my grandparents, mum and aunt all lived there at various times.
My request concerns my late brother, Barry Ward, who was a lifelong Charlton fan, and passed away in September 2024, aged 75.
I learned yesterday that tomorrow’s match against Reading will also serve as a memorial to Charlton fans who have passed away in the past year. Unfortunately, when I phoned the club I was told that I had missed the deadline for my brother to be given a mention in the programme.
Could I please ask that anyone attending the match tomorrow kindly take a moment to remember my dear brother, a devoted fan, who despite living hundreds of miles away in Lytham still managed to go to Charlton’s matches whenever they travelled to the North West of England.
Our whole family would be extremely grateful for any consideration given.
Sorry for the long post, but I needed to provide some context to my request.
Let’s hope the winning run continues tomorrow!
Many thanks, Pete.

RIP Barry Ward
I thought about using the online form, but don’t know if it would be seen and actioned in time for tomorrow.
Thanks for your really helpful reply.
Pete.
The cut off date was 31 December so I wouldn't hold out too much hope. The programme will have already gone to print but there might be an outside chance for the big screen.
Sorry for your loss and RIP Barry and David.
Thank you so much, that’s really kind of you. I finally managed to speak to someone in the ticket office, who will try to get a message to the lady concerned for both Barry and David (I hope that’s okay ChippyCafc)
Many thanks, Pete.
Thank you so much for all the help and kind messages. It has reminded me that Charlton isn’t just a football team, but also a great community of supporters.
I haven’t heard back from anyone at the club one way or the other re a message on the big screen, but will hope for the best. All I know is that if it happens, it will be either pre-match or at half time.
I won’t be at the match tomorrow, but if a message is shown for Barry, I would be extremely grateful if someone could take a photo and post it on here, if that’s not too much of an imposition. I could then show it to the rest of the family, who would be so happy to know that Barry was remembered in this way.
Thank you all again and I hope we win again tomorrow,
Cheers, Pete.
I have now been told by someone at Charlton that only the names on the list in the programme will be shown on the big screen at today’s match.
The crowd will be asked to applaud for all those who passed away in 2024, so if I could revert to my original request and ask everyone to remember my brother Barry at that time, I would be extremely grateful and it would mean a lot to our family.
Thank you all again for the help and kind messages.
A belated Happy New Year to everyone and I hope 2025 will be a great year for you all.
All the best, Pete.
Couldn't help noticing the name Barry in the list, second column, without a second name. Perhaps linked to the name above, hard to tell.
However he has just seen the Addicks beat Millwall 6-0!
It’s a miracle! After being told that Barry couldn’t be included in the memorial video, I received an email from a fantastic guy called James Bell at Charlton telling me that they have managed to include Barry’s name after all. I am so grateful to James and Charlton for going above and beyond to help our family. It means so much to us and when I am able to get a copy of the video, it will be a permanent reminder of the occasion.
Thanks to everyone, Pete.
