Southampton recall striker Dom Ballard from Blackpool
  • Why on earth would you sign a loan player in the summer anymore?
  • Barnsley have signed Neil Farrugia on a free from Shamrock Rovers. He has played as a wingback and Midfielder.

Instead of league clubs having to pay loan fees, PL clubs should have to pay significant break costs to break a loan early.  Maybe linked to number of games the loanee has played (more games, more break cost).  Loans are in their favour and EPPP meant they are soaking up all our best youngsters.  A break cost would be a small re-balance and at least make them think twice about disrupting another clubs season.
But that's the chance you take. Football these days operates between transfer windows.

If we had loaned Kanu to a L2 club, and he had scored 10 goals in the first half of the season, we'd be desperate to bring him back.

But are we taking all the best youngsters from L2 at minimal cost when they’re barely out of nappies?

See that they also signed a Swedish striker a few weeks back who’s now eligible to play for them. 13 goals in 28 appearances in the second division at 23 years old.

Honestly, Scandinavia is a region I hope we are looking at too. Ronnie Schwartz was a flop but there’s plenty of cheap talent that would be more than capable of stepping up to our current level.

I think CM prefers warm holidays hence our Jamaican tie up.

Former target of ours Will Goodwin joins Wigan on loan from Oxford United.

13 goals in 28, in the Swedish 2nd division doesn't sound especially exciting, as I can't imagine it's a very strong league.
  • Natural strikers tend to score at any level in adult football. Jamie Vardy? Poku?

But without the ball control, pace and movement to find space, they never get those goalscoring chances. Otherwise Premier League sides would be full of L2 and non league strikers.

That's absolutely not the case, at least not universally. For every Vardy there's a whole bunch of Schwartzs, Chris Dicksons or Izale McCleods who look lethal in certain leagues or at certain levels but flounder in different circumstances.

The Vardy types who keep rising to the very top are incredibly rare.

Even if they're terming it as a replacement for Caleb Taylor , I think that would probably rule Jones out too.

Nathan Jones will be heartbroken that he's missed out on one of his Luton boys  ;)

And we must be one of the very few teams that when they finally sign a 20+ striker then sell him the next season.

Bolton about to spend some cash in the window where it's impossible to sign players without selling at least 5.

Peterborough very rarely get it wrong when it comes to striker signings.
  • Very good signing for Bolton, although i'm sure he isn't cheap. They reportedly had a bid of 1.5m turned down for him in the summer.
  • Interesting Bolton have spent that money on a player when they have to drop someone from their nominated squad to fit him in as they are already at the limit.  They are also saying they will target 2-3 more.  That sounds a big squad to me.  I wonder how their manager fits them all on one training pitch at the same time.

Kyle Dempsey i think is out for the rest of this season so i'd expect he will be dropped from their squad list.

Nelson Abbey has been recalled from his loan to Swansea.  I suspect Reading will sell Bindon and then get Abbey back on loan but if not maybe he will end up at another L1 club..?

would have loved him a couple of years ago but he’s barely played since so would be a big risk
  • Randall gives Bolton some interesting attacking options to play behind Dion Charles with Collins,McAtee,Lolos and Mendes Gomes.

Exactly the type of signing we need to be making. Attacking midfielder who scores goals at this level and is a good age at 25. Great signing for Bolton. Peterborough in a bit of a mess and more so if they lose others this window.
I rate him, Peterborough fans don't seem too bothered though. Apparently he's a bit of a hider and mainly performs when everything is all going well, goes missing when it gets tough.

I'd say he'd probably make us better and start. Great carrier of the ball, which we are missing other than TC and Small who tend to go out wide rather than through the middle.
