Charles to Huddersfield done , reported fee of £750k1 -
Just don’t think that Dion Charles deal will work out particularly well. Giving me big Will Grigg vibes.0

Think with their other attacking options they had to go for something major , Danny Ward , Rhys Healey (always injured), Radulovic and Callum Marshall the West Ham loanee was never going to be enough to get them promoted. Charles and Taylor are proven at this level0 -
Remind me what the fee for Ahadme was again?
We really need to up our recruitment in terms of quality and value for money when we do spend.

We’ve done well with defenders and with Mitchell, Edwards, Ramsay and Small, and Jones if you count him further back.Sage said:Remind me what the fee for Ahadme was again?

NJ has talked about attacking signings, so this month is a test on that side of it. Docherty, Campbell and Ahadme have been a long way off what we expected.0 -
Docherty has improved immeasurably over the last month or so. A. Campbell has been a massive let down. Ahadme hasn’t had a great start admittedly but many are judging him against this ridiculous 1m fee that seems to have been taken as being correct. Believe it’s very close to 300k plus add ons. Do I think we could have done better with that 300k, yes of course, but I’m not writing off Ahadme just yet.Scoham said:

Bit of a punt but he has had a rapid rise from Step 4 in the last couple of years. I think he scored around 40 goals in one season.ForeverAddickted said:Shrewsbury have signed National League North Striker: Callum Stewart from Leamington Spa

Any reason why you think that? His record in this division is decent enough and if the partnership with Taylor clicks then they'll surely go up automatically, given they are already in 4th.Callumcafc said:Just don’t think that Dion Charles deal will work out particularly well. Their defence is pretty solid but they don't really score enough goals (13 less than Wycombe). Adding those two solves that issue.0 -
On paper. Ahadme scored 9 in 20 odd for Cambridge.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

11 in 29 but i don't think they're really comparable. Charles has been scoring goals at this level for about 5 years. I know which striker i'd rather have.Todds_right_hook said:

Not disagreeing as I'd have Charles all day over Ahadme, but I think the big difference here is what they expected from a sell on value. Charles is only going to decrease given his age, and theoretically Gas's should go up, but we all know that's not happening anytime soon.Sage said:Remind me what the fee for Ahadme was again?

Much more comparable to the sale of May. I know May’s scoring record is better but I think he’s a little olderCAFCDAZ said:

And I agree on which one I would rather have.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

my point is that on paper they are good signings but rate them after they’ve played.
Torres had a great record at Liverpool but didn’t live up to expectations at chelsea
Nicky ajose looked a good signing on paper, I’ll leave this example there
cbt did well here but not a lot anywhere else, he looked a good signing for derby a year ago.
I think they will strengthen Huddersfield (hopefully keep Wrexham down) but with every signing, it isn’t a given that they will do well0 -
Did anyone have Peterborough loaning a CB from Stockport on their bingo card?0

who Charles or May? May is 32 i believe, Charles is 29fenaddick said:

Yes that’s what I meant, in terms of value his scoring record is offset by his age which is why the fees were in the same ballparkCAFCDAZ said:

SG tried to sign both Charles and Bishop at the same time for around 400k i believe in 2020/21, the summer we were promised so much and actually had SFA.1

No strong reason, just a feeling I have knowing how inter-division striker signings in January sometimes pan out. Wouldn’t be shocked if he only managed four or five goals at most before the end of the season and then can’t get in their team in the Championship if they end up there.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

But it’s a flashy signing for the level and gets the fans on side, no doubt about that.0 -

Would be a big loss, played 17 league games this season and 41 last season in the Championship so clearly a key player0 -
Doubt Oxford will be paying him more than Huddersfield so doesn’t look like they consider him much of a loss if willing to let him move on.fenaddick said:

Maybe he's on high wages for L1 which they want to reduce. And his transfer fee will be going towards the purchase of the 2 strikers.LargeAddick said:

That's the nature of transfer wheeling and dealing.2 -

I make you an outstanding candidate to replace Mr Scott.

I'd agree with that, but then I don't exactly think they've bought Charles for what he might do in the championship (or any future sell on value). Taylor who they bought last week would be the one for that. Their aim is to get out of this shit league at the first attempt and that's all Charles is really there to help with.Callumcafc said:

Similar to Brum and Alfie May, I don't think they'll give two shits if Alfie can't cut it in the league above as long as he gets them there. They'll just use him in cup games where he will still be effective if he can't cut it at Champ level.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

That's genuinely what truly ambitious owners would do, not even trying to bait a debate. You don't have 5 year plans in this tin pot league. Fair play Huddersfield7 -
Completely agree. I posted last week that i don't understand why our owners (or indeed any owner with a bit of money) is happy to sit by doing things on the cheap in league one.Braziliance said:

It surely makes far more sense for our owners to splash 6-7m on buying a team to get out of this division quickly, than it does for them to plod along losing 8-9m year after year.
I'm aware that spending money is no guarantee of success, but i'm convinced that kind of money on a team at this level would get promoted within a couple of years.3 -
