Bashir does bowl wicket taking deliveries. But he also bowls a lot of loose stuff, and you fear that better batsmen will milk him.

That he took 6 wickets doesn't say much about the seam attack though.

Bashir can bowl some absolute pearlers, he just needs to get more consistent. Can’t do that without playing matches though

He has got the ability to get batsmen out. Every spinner will bowl a loose ball. His height on hard pitches will be an advantage as he will get some bounce. He delivers the ball with a lot of overspin which makes the ball dip.

I don’t think Bashir nor Cook should start the Ashes .  Bashir has talent - not sure how that should be enhanced best .

I suspect that we will probably see the Rehan and/or Farhan Ahmed given an opportunity in the not too distant future. Being an offie, Farhan is the one with more control and probably the better of the two even though he is only just 17 though Rehan is a more "like for like" replacement for Rashid give he is a leggie.

I guess the likes of Curran have had a lot of chances .  I don’t think there are a lot of really good seamers around .

Irrespective of the conditions if Gill wins the toss he can opt to bat first, rack up 700 in 5 sessions and have 10 sessions to win the game.  Only Stokes carries any discernible threat and his bowling will be limited
England's score against Zim ain't carrying much comfort either.  The Zim attack was naive to put it mildly and the fielding was truly village.
England v India will likely look like the Zimbabwe match but with the hosts as the prey.

I don't think India will make 700 in five sessions in any Test this Summer.

I hadn't realised it until Nasser just mentioned it but we are currently 8th in qualification for the WC and the Windies are 9th with the top 8 qualifying which is probably the reason right now why we are persisting with Rashid for now at least.

The top eight in the rankings qualify plus the hosts, South Africa and Zimbabwe.  Given that SA are ranked six and Zimbabwe eleven, it effectively means the top nine qualify, plus Zimbabwe.  That's everyone down to, but not including, Bangladesh.  Any team not finishing above Bangladesh doesn't really deserve to reach the finals, in my view.  

Nasser Hussain's comments implied a bit more jeopardy on the current series than exits in reality.

That is brain dead cricket from Carty. He knows that Mahmood and Carse can't carry on bowling through so one end will open up even if Rashid is bowling at the other. Wouldn't be surprised if his fellow players shun him in the dressing room and leave him on his Todd.

It's a good job that the Windies have played for all of their bats because it's very difficult to set fields when the inside edge is in constant use.
