MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Cambridge Utd: Thursday 26th December 2024 : KO 3pm

edited December 2024 in General Charlton
As @eastterrace6168 is still off on his holidays I'm starting this thread off today, although  I won't be doing live updates as I'm visiting family and typing on my tablet is S L O W. Having been treated to a minor Christmas miracle on Saturday rather than the load of old cobblers some were anticipating at Northampton, we go into today's home game against Cambridge hoping not to suffer a Boxing Day hangover. For those of us who aren't able to make it to the Valley, coverage on Sky Sports Football starts at 2:45, while I assume Charlton TV will be starting at the usual time for those abroad (literally or virtually).
Team news to follow in a little while - there was some concern that Alex Mitchell might be suspended, as he's now reached 5 bookings, but luckily the deadline for that has already passed.
ETA:

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Docherty (c), Coventry, Berry, Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A.Campbell, Ahadme, Hylton, Godden

  • Unchanged team
  • Aneke still on Xmas leave. Wanker
  • Still no Chucks. Expected the same starting line up. Would have preferred Kanu to Hylton on the bench. And what the hell has happened to Taylor?

  • You can’t change the team following last weeks result but surprised Taylor isn’t on the bench if he is fit . Hopefully they can pick up where they left off and we see another good performance

    3-0 the train gets rolling
  • why no Taylor😇
  • Ahadme and Hylton ahead of Kanu is criminal
  • Aneke still on Xmas leave. Wanker

Taylor was "sick" last Saturday so I don't expect to see him until NYD at least.
  • Good that there are no changes. Keep a winning team.

OS calling it 3-5-2, but I expect it’ll shift to look more like 4-3-3 as we saw on Saturday.

Because he's really flimsy for a defensive midfielder? He's a luxury, a quarterback type, no room for that in this side
Because berry and Doherty are so robust
  • Is this on Sky plus thing?

They're not what you'd call terriers, but they also have very different playstyles to Taylor which do involve breaking into the box. I mean, sure, let Taylor have a go at being an attacking midfielder, but I don't think it'd go very well

    Yes
  • It’ll be lonely this Christmas … unless  few more turn up. 45 minutes to KO and the place is deserted

Taylor should be in the squad end of don’t need free strikers on the bench, especially one of 36 and better than Alan Campbell
  • Given the last result it would be a very brave or stupid manager to make a lot of changes, an unchanged team is sensible really.

Now we'll see just how much things have actually improved and how much it really was Northampton being just THAT bad.

Need to start winning consistently now so fingers crossed.
  • I think we have all seen enough to know that Campbell on the bench is just a waste of squad space Taylor or Potts would be better utilisation

Not watching today then I hope mate? ;)
