Two years ago Seb's club, Bickley Park, narrowly lost to Folkestone courtesy of James Tredwell's 49* off 46 balls. He won't be playing in the same fixture tomorrow because he's umpiring in this game.

It just goes to show how cricket doesn't have the same perceived bias as football for example. Tredwell didn't just play for Kent for years but there's every chance that he would have coached the likes of Jaydn Denly - and he played a lot of games with us uncle, Joe, too.

One of the flagship sports at the school is cricket, with recent graduates of their programme including Kent all-rounder Jaydn Denly, South East Stars and England A seamer Alexa Stonehouse, and Scotland Women international Darcey Carter.

Cricketers at Canterbury Academy have been benefitting from the coaching of David Fulton, ex-Kent skipper turned Sky Sports pundit, whose two sons have both played cricket at the school.

Players at Canterbury Academy have the opportunity to benefit from expert coaching from not only Fulton and the other coaches on the staff, but visiting ex-pros such as former England off-spinner James Tredwell, who comes in to work with the spinners, and Kent legend Darren Stevens.

At least one of our teams is doing well. Usually it's both that we are forced to suffer!

Somerset have seamers Josh Davey and Lewis Gregory opening. The batting that is.

If nothing else then this is proof that our batting performances over the last half a dozen seasons has very little to do with the coach but a lack of technique and application from our batsmen. Scores this season (first innings in bold):

    231-10
    171-10
    218-10
    316-2
    393-10
    124-6
    129-10
    473-10
    212-10
    176-10
    66-4

Ben Dawkins and Jamal Richards named in a Professional County Club XI to play Zimbabwe

    PCC Select XI squad:
    Josh De Caires (Middlesex, Captain)
    Archie Bailey (Gloucestershire)
    Luc Benkenstein (Essex)
    Jafer Chohan (Yorkshire)
    Ben Dawkins (Kent)
    Alex Green (Leicestershire)
    Eddie Jack (Hampshire)
    Mitch Killeen (Durham)
    Ben Mayes (Hampshire)
    Seb Morgan (Middlesex)
    Dan Mousley (Warwickshire)
    Thomas Rew (Somerset)
    Jamal Richards (Essex)

"Select squad" appears to mean "Teams of 13". We've batted 11 and used 9 bowlers with Dawkins, Rew (the keeper), Mayes and the captain himself, de Caires, the only ones not to bowl.

It does seem somewhat strange that Benjamin, who made his name in that competition we don't talk about on here is scoring at a rate of barely 2 an over.

386-6 (96) at close. Just another 14 runs for a 4th batting bonus point and quite a comeback from 74-5. Benjamin and Stewart have, to date, put on 249* for the 7th wicket.

    Benjamin 82* (212)
    Stewart 173* (174)

I'd completely ignored the scorecard after the terrible start. That's an incredible partnership!

Both have been in better nick than some of the top order, but that was exceptional today. Benjamin was left stranded on 94* in the last game, so hopefully he can go all the way.

Well batted Grant Stewart! Ably supported by Chris Benjamin and Jadyn Denly. 3 batting points and 14 runs with 4 wickets in hand from a 4th. After being put in and struggling that's a good day for Kent.
