Tbf it must be demoralising playing Luke when you miss a 9 darter and then lose the game lol

Didn't van Veen win a leg in set 5?

Winning 14 out of the last 15 legs is a joke

Ridiculous... Really feel for van Veen, hope this is like Luke's defeat three years ago for him, and just the beginning

    Chris Hoy 😢

    Well done Littler, phenomenal talent.
  • He's far too good. Van Veen will learn from this but it's going to take a fucking good player to beat Littler in this longer format.

Players have a chance in shorter formats where if you're off it for 10 minutes, you've lost 3-4 legs and the game is potentially away from you. But in the world championships over long sets he looks unbeatable.
  • Generational talent.

    Incredible

Chris Hoy recently broke his leg in a cycling crash. Glad he still hobbled on stage for the presentation!

Anyone who thought that was boring or turned over isn’t really a darts fan (no problem with that btw).

Unbelievable talent. Darts and board wires are different now but I really do think Littler’s best is better than Taylor’s best.

Played in 3 world finals and his best average is 106 in Taylor’s 19 odd word finals he’s only ever beaten that average 3 times, Littler is a joke

Haven’t watched any darts for the last few years, just lost interest but thought as there had been so much talk about young Littler I’d tune in.
My god…..he’s phenomenal, on that showing I’m gonna say the best I’ve ever seen.

He's great for darts but also bad for darts if that makes any sense. I think people have forgotten how dull the Taylor years were

I stopped watching darts during the Taylor era (couldn’t afford sky, when the kids were little, and Taylor was dominant).

Littler and my 2 sons who have got into darts in recent years, have got me back into darts, watched more than I’ve ever watched of the tournament this year.

Wife got me a Littler shirt for Christmas, son got me a Littler hat.

Have really enjoyed the matches, as for the last 4 months, I have been housebound and not been able to get about due to an accident, missing Charlton matches, home and away.

Ally Pally darts has been a lifeline for my head!

It’s unfortunate that the final wasn’t as exciting as the Anderson semi final but, sometimes, you have to acknowledge that the winner was just simply playing at another, ridiculous, level.

Next big event is the Winmau World Masters at the end of the month.

The current 24 in the order of merit after the end of the Worlds have automatically qualified with the remaining 8 places to be decided on a qualifying event a couple of days leading up to the tournament

He was quite clearly on another level but i think it helped that Littler cruised to the final. He wasn't troubled at all in any game (which admittedly is down to his brilliance) but i think Van Veen having to come past Humphries and then Anderson took a lot out of him and the final was just a match too far for him.

Maybe - although I think Littler (as with Taylor) has an aura about him that has many opponents beaten before the game starts. The realisation that he was playing in a World Final against a phenomenon may well have scrambled his nerves more than the effect of having to come past Humphries and Anderson.

Having started playing whilst in nappies, not only has Littler done his 10,000 hours but he possesses that swagger and arrogance that so many champions have. The sport requires either another up and coming youngster to mirror what he has done or Littler needs to become bored with his achievements/lose that fire to win a la O'Sullivan, Hendry and Davis at snooker. Can't see the latter happening any time soon.

GVV has beaten Littler before so I think there is rivalry opportunity there. Luke Humphries has it in him still. Littler does seem to have a psyche advantage at Ally Pally though, even with the wasp.

Glad to hear you're on the mend mate. Your first paragraph sort of proves my point though

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. No point getting into a 'I'm a bigger fan than you' argument.

It's fun and exciting now because he's new. When he goes 8 consecutive like Taylor the interest will drop off.

The best matches of this tournament were those that went to last leg deciders (Hood v Noppert for example). Jeopardy and drama are what makes this sport great, 7-1 set play matches are just an exhibition
