I went there last year after that mega hurricane tore through Tampa Bay. Probably the cheapest holiday i've ever been on. Just look past all the destroyed buildings - the beach is still there.1

Depends what you like. If it were me, I'd be heading to nearby Walton to see the tower (specifically the Kestrels that are nesting on the tower) and then have a nice relaxing walk around The Naze. There are a lot of people here with an interest in military history; if that's you, you might want to seek out the Martello Towers. If though, you're like the people here who liked Naples, I'd suggest a trip down the coast to Jaywick which regularly makes lists such as Britain's biggest hellholes. Finally, if you like a decent pub, check out The Moon and Starfish. It's about as spoonsy as a spoons can get. last few days at a villa, wooded hillside halfway between Alicante and Valencia.
Pool, wi-fi & air-con. Decent but rustic. No neighbor's.
Been listening to the wildlife, birding app called Merlin identifies birds by call or song. A new one for me was the Blue rock thrush, also had a Spotless starling &
Sardinian warbler. Visit from a Spanish squirrel, black and big as a cat.

Not much eye watering going on there. Generally about £150 a night, to include flights, transfers, accommodation, food and drink…2

Has done so far, yes. Plus I prefer it anyway as I hate being tied onto eating at one place, even if that one place has multiple restaurants. Prefer something a bit more authentic.
That said I am not comparing apples with apples as would not usually go on a European beach holiday2 -
I prefer all inclusive for the ease of budgeting if on a beach holiday. Especially true when children are younger and more picky with food and liable to waste drinks etc.clb74 said:

now it seems to me many nearby (to hotels) restaurants are relatively expensive as they are chasing fewer customers.So I doubt that you can often save any significant money by not going all inclusive.1 -
There is a difference between a “package holiday” and a holiday that is packaged. Do it on your own and anything goes wrong good luck. Go to a decent travel agent and book an ATOL protected package.I’ve been saying this on various holiday threads for years, and I’ll keep going.1

Just a quick thanks to those who helped with my USA trip recently, hands down the perfect holiday! Turns out going solo was brilliant and incredibly liberating.. so for anyone who's debating going away by themselves but too nervous to do it, I highly recommend it!4

I went to both Naples and Sorrento last year. I preferred Naples. Sorrento is full of souvenir shops and tourists; it was impossible to find a restaurant with only locals in it. The only free beach I could find was tiny and the cost of excursions was high. Naples was more raw but I enjoyed getting lost in the backstreets, the street art, the shrines to Maradona and the best pizza that I have ever had.paulsturgess said:I loved Naples.
