MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Wrexham : Saturday 26th October 2024 : KO 15:00

Good afternoon everybody...

Today we entertain Wrexham in yet another bog standard league one fixture,🙄 and it's been reported that an almost sell out crowd is expected, which is great news and rarely seen nowadays, so into The Valley of Dreams come the 24000(ish), and we can expect the roof to be taken off the place, with another three points on the board to boot...YES!
So Wrexham, not played them much have we, we've met on 15 previous occasions winning three, Wrexham seven and the remaining five encounters resulting in draws, today’s match will be the first time the teams have clashed in over 40 years, with Charlton securing a 1-0 win in the last meeting back in February 1982...

Nathan Jones has confirmed that Gas has returned to training, though Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones, and Daniel Kanu remain sidelined.

The visitors will be without Max Cleworth, George Evans, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott.

So, here we go eh

Nathan Jones has made four changes for this afternoon’s match with  Wrexham

Tennai Watson, Greg Docherty, Luke Berry and Tyreece Campbell come into Charlton’s starting XI, with Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Terry Taylor, Allan Campbell and Miles Leaburn reverting to the bench.

Meanwhile, Danny Hylton is named in the Addicks’ matchday 18 for the first time.

Should the Addicks continue in the same formation, Watson will join Alex Mitchell, Macaulay Gillesphey and Josh Edwards in defence ahead of goalkeeper Will Mannion.

Coventry, captain Docherty, Karoy Anderson and Berry form Jones’ midfield, behind a front two of Tyreece Campbell and Matty Godden.

Edmonds-Green, Taylor, Allan Campbell, Leaburn and Hylton are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer and Thierry Small.

Charlton: Mannion; Watson, A.Mitchell, Gillesphey, Edwards; Coventry, Docherty (c), Anderson, Berry; T.Campbell, Godden

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Edmonds-Green, Small, Taylor, A.Campbell, Leaburn, Hylton

  • Getting nervous now... God its the big one... the one we've all be waiting for the... and I'm not going to be there, call myself a fan, call myself a Human being - I'm not even going to be able to endure the horror of having some little shit kicking the back of my chair for 90mins, or having to get up every few mins, as people get to their seats late, and then realise they're in the wrong place.

God its bringing a tear to my eye now!! - The memories I miss out on now... Oh well, never mind
Just the one eye FA...part timer!...🙄
  • For all the jokes I’m gutted I can’t be at a full Valley and can’t even watch on the stream today. Hope it’s a good game, a win and everyone has a good day
  • Given how we usually perform when we have a big gate I'm not expecting good things today. Would be good to shove it down the throat of the Wrexham circus though. First goal will decide it IMO.
  • A must win
  • I know it's early, but has anyone tried logging into the CATV stream yet, only I keep getting "HLS stream error"...whatever that means?
  • Very important that we squash the Dobbo narrative today, or everyone's going to be unbearable (including and especially me)
  • No TT starting, on the bench
  • WTF is that team! Hylton instead of Dixon ffs?

    jesus

This is what's called a 'professional banter move'
  • Anderson 🤦‍♂️.
  • A Campbell over Dixon is the really annoying one tbh
  • Hylton on the bench??!?? Are Dixon and Mbick injured???
  • Hylton to score the winner, lump it on

  • Jeez, I must have been close to getting on the bench with my one leg!!
  • Who the firkin am I kidding?

This is as Third Division a game as you can get: Charlton, the very embodiment of third tier mediocrity over the last decade, against a side only two years out of a 15-season stretch in the Conference and have only had 4 (FOUR) seasons at a higher level than they are now.

The club is expecting an attendance of 24+k today. If you want bums on seats and revenue for the club then that's good. If, on the other hand, you think people are rocking up purely because it's part of a reality TV show ("WTF is Wrexham" I think it's called, with a versatile "W" standing for "Where", "What" and/or "Why") and the oppo is owned by a pair of mega-famous Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds and, er, the other one. There'll be so much plastic it'll be more Barbie than Deadpool.

It's not even as though Wrexhan is full of big-name players ... look at how many ex-Charlton they've got. Not only that, but players from some of the worst Charlton sides in living memory (don't get me wrong, I loved Dobbi to bits as a Charlton player and skipper but he was a Davy Lamo in the darkness of a deep-cast mine of shit).

Let's just get past this bullshit three-ring circus sideshow of freaks (apologies to Tool) and then we can get back to our reality of getting knocked out of the FA Cup by a non-league side and fcuking up yet another Third Division league campaign.
  • Bizarre selection and changes. Hylton? Really. Suppose with Ahadme, Kanu, Aneke out and Leaburn not up to full speed I shouldn't be surprised but jeez.
  • Lee and Dobson start for Wrexham this afternoon... O'Connell on the bench

Isn't that why we have such a big crowd today, for the return of The Dobbo?
  • Hylton v1000 is laughable
