The only good thing is that we aren't expected to get anything from the game so a good performance or even a a point or three will be a massive bonus.
We have to play Godden and drop Ahadme . Only one of the two knows where the goal is and the other doesn't even know which feet to put his boots on. I'd like us to start Leaburn and Godden up front and swap Leaburn after an hour with Chuks. TC has to play a wide role
Having said all that i think we'll probably get ripped a new one. 0-3
This game now becomes a free hit for Jones, his shit football, shit signings and shit formation wont be questioned. We will however hold out for 60-70 minutes without creating or doing anything to then concede around the 75th minute. Jones will say he was pleased going back to basics, however we wasnt front footed enough wasn't aggressive enough blah blah blah you know the rest. He will also forget to mention we didnt create a single chance in the game.
I disagree mate. If we had taken some points in the last 3 games then you’re right but with 3 straight losses no way is this a free hit. it really wouldn’t surprise me if we won its what we do in these games but if May starts I can’t see him not scoring! He will want to rub it in someone’s face !
Everyone putting Leaburn in their starting elevens when let’s be honest, there is no chance he’s starting. He’s played 30 minutes of league football since November 2023, I doubt he’s ready and it’s way too risky
If Ahadme is fit then he probably starts, it’s either him or Kanu. It’s not good at all but it’s all we can do until Leaburn is fit to start, hopefully after the international break he’ll be ready
In true Charlton fashion we will defy the odds & win this one. But only if we start with Leaburn & Godden & bring back Ramsey to RB. Would like us to try something different than 532 but realise it's too soon to be changing formation from mid week.
And with my almost spot on prediction of Tuesday night (just didn't expect us to get a 2nd) I'm going with a 2-0 win. A goal in each half - Godden & Aneke (as sub)
Tactic - Ramsay and Edwards as wingbacks Tyreece with a free role to support either wing
Big ball out with Leaburn as target, Godden looks for second/third ball.
Tyreece stays in centre circle for oppo set pieces to give us an out-ball.
Coventry- quality passes Docherty - Dobbo like tackles
no passing back no playing out from the back our set pieces - Coventry and Docherty to stay back.
It’s just my idea and it may have flaws, but if we turn up to play the crap we have been trying for the last month - we will deffo lose.
No playing out from the back or passing backwards, but we're playing 5 at the back so you want half the outfielders to ignore the football when we have possession?
Aneke or Leaburn to start up top with Godden, whoever starts to be replaced by the other on 60 mins. I think Docherty will return in a midfield three with Coventry and maybe Taylor, possibly Berry. Back five picks itself imo, Ramsay, Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey, Edwards. 2-0 Charlton win.
I'd keep the three at the back and try to get back to where we started the season. I think this works better with athletic and strong wing backs so it has to be Ramsay and Small. Coventry is a shoe in in midfield. Anderson isn't working. He is playing for his energy but he needs to work on his game and I fear Birmingham could expose his weaknesses but maybe coming on as a sub would help him when we need to bring energy in. I think it has to be Docherty starting with Coventry. Then probably Taylor for his set piece play. Before we bought him he had the reputation for being hard working. Outside of Coventry it is hard to pick the right player but the midfield has to work its socks off.
This is a game where we can reasonably expect less of the ball and have few chances. But the combinations up front have been too lightweight. Campbell looks energetic but he is a winger who is clueless on how to play a frontman role. Ahadme is sooooo frustrating. He wins the odd header but he looks easy to defend against like Campbell. We need to trouble them a bit to hold them off us. I think we need to have strikers who can trouble defences. So Leaburn and Aneke have to split one of the roles. As Aneke does better coming on, I'd start Leaburn simply because he has more about him, up to speed or not. Then Godden has to start with him, and I'd be looking to chance Dixon with his pace later in the game. A risk but less so when you look at the alternatives to that risk. Maybe if we have a lead we could bring Berry on with Aneke on his own up front.
I'd still expect us to lose but there might be some possibilities if Jones does the above whereas the sort of teams we have been putting out, we know will be turned over easily. Jones highlighted after Tuesday that we were second best to the first and second balls so not starting Ramsay and Small who are as physically strong as any at this level is ridiculous. If Jones has fallen out with Small, I'd say to to him, get over yourself and try to get the lad playing like he showed last season.
We will lose and pretty inevitable that May will score. Just hope we can put in a performance to provide a bit of hope. 0-2 sadly. Gonna be a tough month I fear. Hope the crowd gets behind the team Saturday.
Predicting any Charlton result is bloody difficult even with a settled side that is in reasonable form, we have neither of those luxuries to enable us a reasonable stab at a result. I can't agree with the theory that typically Charlton are in such bad form that they will pull off a shock, Birmingham are in very good form with the luxury of whoever plays, they simply know what's required and produce the goods. Charlton on the other hand, have players who look as though they haven't a clue of what's expected of them when selected. Miles Leaburn gave us a different option against Bristol but still doesn't look fit enough to start, Matt Godden and Chuks also gave us options up front, sadly due to injuries to Godden and Leaburn plus Chuks fragile frame, we have had to put up with Jones's Tryeece Campbell experiment coupled with Ahadme's endeavour but lack of goal threat, a pairing that's doing both players not a lot of good. We need every bit of experience in the side on Saturday, no bloody experiments, Godden and Docherty should start but predicting Nathan Jones selection is worse than predicting the result. A home defeat by a comfortable margin is my prediction.
From what I have seen so far from Brum they are a class above everyone else in this league......1-3.....May with a double and Stansfield....Chuks for us
I know others have said it but feel like NJ has got himself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Teams need stability to build relationships and play well but realistically the selection needs to change from both of our games in the last week. Think he needs to pick something this weekend and stick with it for a while

With the quick turnover from Tuesday I don’t think we can drastically change things. Also against Birmingham a defensive 1-0 win is probably the best we can hope for anyway
We then have a week off, Leaburn hopefully fit to start once we are back, and Jones with some time on the training pitch to find a better way of playing. If we come back after the break playing the same way then I don’t think Jones will be here for long

Agreed, my guess is he might return to a similar team to the one we started the season with just without the (seemingly) injured Ahadme. Not having big man up front might actually force us to play it on the floor a bit!

Probably unlikely. We will just hoof it into the channels for Kanu/Campbell to chase down and then press from there
We’ll start surprisingly well but miss a great chance and then they’ll get on top with May putting them 1-0 up.
We’ll then defend desperately and waste the odd counter attack before they score 2 late on.
The optimists will say we held them for most of the game with some improved defending against a club with a ridiculous budget.
The pessimists will talk about us ultimately conceding 3 goals with no attempt to play football.
That’ll leave us with two weeks to stew wondering where the season will go from here. Inevitably Jones will talk about the great work we’ve done on the training ground but we’ll start badly against Stockport in a couple of weeks and narrowly lose 2-1.
Just as the Jones out talk heats up we’ll win 1-0 away at Barnsley.
That’s my three previews in one, see you in a few weeks.

Campbell, Coventry, Docherty/Taylor, Small
Godden, Leaburn.
Godden can drop back into an attacking midfield position; attack down the flanks, with the two midfield players largely sitting.
