  • Glad to see a few optimists on here. My first thought was it's a very loseable game, with zero interest for the neutral until they can laugh at us losing to a side from the division below. Despite very few interesting ties coming out of the hat, no chance of it being on tele either.
  • That's a difficult draw they are doing well this season..would say we might need a reply to get through that tie  but!!
If you mean replay then there aren’t any .
  • I went there once. Late 80s midweek on a coach from Bexleyheath. It was cold damp and grim. We lost and I counted our away support at 118

    my god I love football.
  • I bet Walsall Life are similarly unimpressed.
Walsall ‘Life’ ??? I remember going there in the mid-70s. We arrived around 12ish and for the next 2 hours before kick off kept thinking it was Sunday because the pub and streets were empty and quiet apart from us. Kicked off in the ground though, and not just the game.
The trouble with United fans was at New Street, where we were waiting for train to Walsall and they were going to Villa. It was before the game that it was really bad. This was first game of season after our relegation to Division 3.  They came down onto platform in their hundreds. Then all ran away when Charlton charged them.  Remember going to other away games and fans, saying heard you ran United at New Street. In its day a badge of honour.

However, some things don’t change we lost 3-2
  • Went in our promotion season 1999/2000 midweek when we won 4-2, other than the result the only other positive was the balti pies, amazing.
  • Only been there in 2011/12 for a 1-1 draw. Slight unpleasant atmosphere in the away end, I believe a few fans were arrested around this time having been tracked by the Police.

Been nine hours since the draw and no ticket details on the website, shambles Charlton.
    Oh dear.

Went on sale at 8pm last night , online sales only, and sold out by 8am this morning...

Best look for any spares on here  :o
  • If it’s Saturday 3pm I’ll go but can see this being moved, Monday night would be the worst one
I can categorically say that this game will not be moved to satisfy the TV companies. Probably the last match to be considered if I'm being honest
    Why?

Looking at the other games in the round (a much less interesting draw than the 1st round) I'd put it as a definite possibility as one of the 5 TV games. Especially after the 4-3 scoreline in our 1st round match.
  • An away day at the Poundland Stadium. Perfect because half our squad came straight out the bargain bin!

Think the 5 TV picks will be

    Wealdstone v Wycombe Wanderers
    Kettering Town v Doncaster Rovers
    Burton Albion v Tamworth
Crawley Town v Chesham United or Lincoln City (if Chesham win) or  Reading v Harborough Town
    Harrogate Town v Gainsborough Trinity

  • Went to Walsall's old stadium once - Fellows Park in the early 60's.
    A proper rubbish heap.

Both team's were in the relegation places if I remember, game was
abandoned at half time due to waterlogged pitch.
Unforgettable memory was rain pouring in through roof of away fans bar 😀

  • probably driven past their ground more than most others in my life

but that's about it, have only actually set foot inside it once (the 4-2 game)

I was there too that day, at Fellows Park, Walsall's old ground. Went on the Bubbles away coach.

Hell, did it kick off during the 2nd half - not so much the team, who of course chucked away a H-T lead in time honoured fashion, but the fighting on the terraces. Bricks being thrown and blades brandished, it was war and some fans of both sides were getting badly hurt.
I've been to most grounds in my time and watched a lot of football, but I'd never been in the midst of such violence before.

Despite equalising, we typically lost to a last minute winner
It's funny how you remember some games from 50 years ago, but more recent games are just a blur.

I was on that coach and it was certainly a memorable day.
Speaking of Bubbles he's just called in my house for a coffee.
It's his 70th birthday in a couple of weeks.
    How time flies.

Birmingham got through though didnt they... So thats another possible tie for them to show.
  • There a very nice club house at the new ground that accepts always supporters. If you have time, it’s well worth visiting The Walsall Contemporary Art Gallery. And if it’s still a 5-10 minute walk around the local museum.

He's fine thanks and still goes to most home games plus a few aways.
If you fancy meeting up for a drink at a home game pm me and I'll arrange it.

Gedd'on, Blackpool. You were also on it?
It was only a small coach if I remember, about a 29 seater.
We got picked up from the bottom of Crown Woods Way, Avery Hill. I lived in Welling then.

Bubble's is 70 now? Bleddy 'ell, but then I am too next year!
  • It's funny cause Walsall away is the exact draw I wanted (other than an easy home tie) two of my close mates are from Walsall and now live in Shrewsbury, so this will be a decent little trip.

Only ever been here once, the promotion season 18/19, 2 nil. Don't remember much from the game tbh.

  • I went there back in 80-81 I think it was. Evening game , 2-2 draw after being 2 - 0 up. Guy called Lazerus scored for us and never played another game.

Yes I was there too. A disastrous Dick Tydeman back pass in the 90th plus minute done for us. After a 0-0 draw at Barnsley on 1st October, these were the only points we dropped until losing at Oxford in the Xmas fixtures. Something like 13 successive wins ruined by one back pass.
  • Don't leave anything lying around in Walsall when you go:

An 85-year-old litter picker is outraged after being fined for littering after leaving his walking stick on the roadside in Aldridge.

  • Looked on their fan forum.  They are generally of the view it is a winnable but unexciting game given their results v other L1 teams.  One poster seemed to think we would bring 2,000 fans with us - the others put him straight!

Another watched the highlights of our Southend game and has declared us a long ball team they will be able to cope with fine.

    Don’t think it’s that bad.

    1) It’s fairly easy to get to as far as away days outside of London go.

    2) Its not a League One team

    3) Expecting a decent turn out from the home side. Looked pretty busy yesterday for their game against Bolton

    4) It’s not a game that would be considered some embarrassing, jaw dropping cup shock if we lose
Bloody well was back in The Selhurst Park days when we sat in top division and Walsall in 3rd I believe,   We lost that game.

The good old days.. it always kicked off at Fellows Park. In three different stands as well.
  • The Mark Kinsella Derby.

    The Jordan Cook derby.
